Chapter 280 Such a Slap in the Face

Tiffany's words suddenly plunged the room into an odd silence.

Harrison looked at Gabriel, all eager for the drama.

The audacious Tiffany, even with her memory loss, dared to declare her feelings outright and stand up to Sophia.

The excitement of two women vying for one man was thrilling.

He then looked forward with anticipation to Sophia's response, wondering how she would retaliate.

Sophia's fiery aura gradually dissipated as she cast a cold glance at Gabriel.

He had been silent; did that mean he was giving his consent?

So, the idea that their breakup was likely just a farce, and it was entirely possible they'd reconcile, with him choosing Tiffany to be the children's stepmother.

Sophia felt so infuriated that her heart froze. She looked at Tiffany with a smirk that wasn't quite a smile.

"Then I wish you success,” she said, sarcastically to Tiffany.

Tiffany was about to reply, "Thank..."

Before she could finish, Sophia cut her off with a cold voice, "But you're not fit to be my children's mother!"

Tiffany stood her ground, "I may not have had children, but I will strive to be a good mother."

"A good mother is someone who will do anything for her children,” Sophia stated.

Tiffany agreed, "Of course, I can!"

"All right then, you can start by washing the children's potty,” Sophia instructed.

"What?" Tiffany's mouth fell open in disbelief. "Don't they have a caregiver?"

"You won't even wash a bedpan, who would trust you to be a good stepmom?" Sophia laughed mockingly with her eyes full of irony.

She pulled the bedpan that was stashed under the bed and handed it to Tiffany.

Tiffany involuntarily took a step back, feeling as if the air was thick with an unspeakable odor. Her entire being resisted the task.

But she had just made a grand statement, and now, if she didn't follow through, she would lose face.

How would she ever win back her ex?

Gritting her teeth to suppress her revulsion, Tiffany reluctantly took hold of the bedpan and prepared to wash it.

"The bathroom in this room has no water, you need to take it to the restroom outside," Sophia reminded her, a hint of concealed pleasure in her tone.

Tiffany was so angry she could almost grind her teeth to dust.

As soon as she left the room, Harrison burst into raucous laughter. "Sophia, I'm amazed you thought of this. Making her wash the bedpan must be torture for her," he said.

Tiffany, who used to carry herself with such dignity, had become mentally unstable after her amnesia, but she had never done anything like this.

Sophia gave a light chuckle. Pretending to have amnesia, eh? Let's see how long you can keep this up.

Gabriel had been silent the whole time.

In truth, Emma hadn't even used the bedpan. With her severe injuries, she'd been bedridden for the past few days, unable to move much without risking further damage. But no matter how much they tried to convince her; Emma refused to use the bedpan.

Seeing her mommy outsmart the wicked woman, Emma thought her mommy was so clever and decided she wanted to learn more from her.

"Emma," Harrison said tenderly, looking at her.

The little one was the spitting image of the Lancaster family, but in miniature and female form, with rosy cheeks, sparkling eyes, and a milky voice; was adorably irresistible.

Harrison, like some kind of eccentric uncle, wanted to rush forward and embrace Emma.

Emma shrank back in fear.

Gabriel dashed over like a gust of wind, pulling Harrison aside. "You scared the child," he chided.

Harrison stood flabbergasted.

You overprotective dad!

Then, Harrison pulled out his trump card; a big, fat cash gift.

"Emma, this is from your uncle, your daddy's good buddy. From now on, you should consider me your very own uncle," he said, trying to ingratiate himself.

Gabriel took the cash gift, placed it in Emma's small hands, and corrected, "It's Uncle Boss."

Harrison was older, so by age, Emma should call him that.

Harrison glared at him. "It's Uncle!"

Calling him Uncle Boss made him feel aged.

Emma looked from her daddy to Harrison and then down at the cash gift, squeezing it. It felt thick and promising.

"Hi, Uncle!" Emma called out happily.

Harrison's heart melted; he wanted nothing more than to rush over and embrace his adorable little niece, but Gabriel was blocking the way, which left him internally seething and itching to scratch someone out of frustration.

The next moment, Emma handed a red envelope to Sophia.

"Mommy, this is for you. There's a lot of money in it," Emma said with a bright smile.

Harrison's eyes widened in shock. Hey, he was the one who had given the cash gift, and he was still there.

Sophia received the red envelope with a beaming smile and tucked it into her pocket.

"I'll save it for you, honey. We'll buy some yummy treats later," she told Emma.

"Thank you, Mommy," Emma replied cheerily.

Harrison thought to himself, annoyed that his cash gift had been accepted with no thanks directed his way.

"Thank you, Uncle," Emma suddenly said, as if hearing Harrison's inner thoughts.

Overjoyed, Harrison practically glowed with happiness, totally smitten by his niece's charm.

After spending time with Emma, a sudden desire to have a daughter of his own took root in Harrison's mind. He wondered if his future daughter would take after him or Noah...

No way, how could he be thinking about Noah? It must be because he had seen Noah trending on social media just before coming here.

Tiffany walked in, having finished cleaning the potty, and placed it back in its spot. She looked forlorn and mistreated, like a little wife who's had a hard day.

"Is there anything else I can do?" she asked, mustering a maternal façade.

Sophia was about to speak when Gabriel's resonant voice cut in. "No, it's all right. You can go back home. Emma needs some quiet time to rest."

Tiffany breathed a silent sigh of relief, feeling unburdened.

She told Gabriel, "Okay, I'll come to see Emma again tomorrow."

"Emma, make sure you get some good rest, okay? Listen to your daddy and I'll come by to see you tomorrow," Tiffany said with a tender smile, bidding Emma goodbye.

Emma turned her head away, ignoring Tiffany.

Unfazed by Emma's cold shoulder, Tiffany picked up her purse and turned to Gabriel. "Gabriel, could you see me out? I have something to tell you."

Gabriel pondered for a moment before replying, "Let's go."

Sophia's expression was icy. Gabriel seemed eager to get Tiffany out—perhaps worried Sophia would be hard on her again.

How protective he is, she thought bitterly, her heart growing even colder.

It was clear to her that she needed to move quickly with the legal procedures to gain custody of the children. She would never let Tiffany become their stepmother.

Harrison glanced meaningfully at Sophia, pulling out his phone to check it for a moment before standing up.

"Emma, your uncle has to go now. I'll come see you again tomorrow."

"Okay, thank you, Uncle. Take care on your way out," Emma replied politely, her attention returning to her mother.

What a caring niece Harrison had; he didn't even want to leave.

Leaving the hospital room, Harrison ran into Gabriel returning after seeing off Tiffany.

Harrison clapped him on the shoulder as he asked, "Are you honestly going to get back together with Tiffany?"

"When did I ever say I wanted to get back together?" Gabriel countered.

"From the way Tiffany spoke, it sounded like getting back together was a foregone conclusion, and you didn't deny it, either. I bet Sophia is going to get the wrong idea,” Harrison remarked.

"Let her misunderstand if she wants to,” Gabriel said, a hint of annoyance in his voice.

Hearing Gabriel's irritated tone, Harrison couldn't help but laugh.

"I won't comment on your situation, but think it through, man. You don't want to have regrets after it's too late,” Harrison advised.

Gabriel's expression was stone cold. The anger at Sophia for keeping him from the kids for five years wasn't something that was going to dissipate easily.

He did admittedly use Tiffany today to rile up Sophia.

Harrison walked past him, laughing as he mused, "So even old Lancaster can act childish."
