Chapter 602 Full of Flaws
Mia felt this weird tingling on her back. She couldn't even look at Daniel, so she yanked Linda aside and started grilling her with questions.
"Daniel, what happened to you?"
Daniel just laughed it off. "You seriously don't know how I got hurt?"
Mia's face went pale.
She thought, 'Wait, does he know I had Ivan hire someone to do it?'
She forced a smile. "Daniel, what are you talking about? How would I know how you got hurt?"
"The cops in City G nabbed the guy who did it. Turns out, it was a taxi driver working for Ivan. They were trying to kill me."
Daniel's eyes were locked on Mia as he spoke.
"Ivan?" Linda echoed, thinking for a sec before it clicked. "Mia, isn't he your distant cousin or something?"
Mia quickly jumped in, "Yeah, he's my relative, but didn't Daniel kick him out a few years back? I haven't talked to him since."
Daniel was still alive, so no way could she let him find out she was behind this.
Mia thought, 'Damn it. Ivan's gotta take the fall for this.'
When she heard Daniel was heading to City H, she couldn't find anyone better to handle it fast, so she thought of Ivan.
Mia cursed to herself, 'That idiot Ivan not only failed but also got caught by the cops. At least he didn't rat me out.'
Mia steeled herself.
"Are you sure you haven't been in touch?" Daniel asked, eyeing her suspiciously.
Mia stood firm, "Nope!"
"But I found out you wired ten million dollars to Ivan."
Mia's eyes went wide, and she immediately denied it, "No way, I never sent him any money, I..."
She'd been super careful, asking Ivan to use a trusted friend's account for the transfer.
'How did Daniel trace it back to me?' Mia wondered.
Under his intense stare, Mia almost lost her cool.
"What's up with the ten million dollars from your account?"
"I..." Mia was flustered. This whole plan was last-minute, and she hadn't thought of a cover story for such a huge amount.
Daniel wasn't as easy to fool as Linda.
Feeling guilty, Mia stammered and couldn't explain clearly.
Daisy had pretty much figured it out. The whole thing with Daniel getting hurt was definitely Mia's doing.
Even though she was shocked Mia would go that far, she still had to help cover it up. If Mia's actions were exposed, then she...
But ten million dollars was no joke, and Daniel wasn't easy to deceive.
Daisy couldn't think of a solution right then.
Linda also gave a curious look.
At that moment, Diana spoke up weakly.
"Dad, I borrowed that ten million dollars from Aunt Mia."
"Why?" Daniel was surprised and turned his sharp gaze to Diana.
Diana shrank under his gaze. "I... I have a really good friend whose family is seriously ill and can't afford the treatment. I wanted to help, so I borrowed the money from Aunt Mia, and she sent it directly to my friend."
Daniel wasn't buying it.
The excuse was full of holes.
He was about to keep grilling her when Linda jumped in.
"If you needed cash, why didn't you tell me or your dad?"
Diana's eyes were all red, tears just about to spill.
"Dad's always so busy, I didn't wanna bug him. And Mom, you've already done so much for me, I didn't wanna add to your plate."
Linda felt a mix of heartache and pity for Diana.
She hugged Diana and gently patted her back.
"Alright, I'm not mad. If you need money, just ask me. No need to borrow."
Mia let out a sigh of relief.
"Daniel, Linda, Diana did borrow the money from me. She's family, and I had it, so of course, I helped her out."
Linda said, "I'll pay you back later."
"No rush."
Daniel's gaze towards Diana grew colder.
'Have I been neglecting Diana for too long?' Daniel wondered to himself.
The sweet, innocent Diana seemed long gone.
Seeing Linda's blind affection for Diana, it had reached an irrational level.
He couldn't keep Diana around any longer.
Daniel was about to spill the beans that Diana was a fake when the phone on the bedside table suddenly rang.
He glanced at it and answered.
"Mr. Wolf, after a second interrogation, Ivan confessed. He said a woman named Mia gave him money to hire someone to kill you."
Linda was busy comforting Diana and didn't notice Daniel's expression. Mia was also standing beside Linda, backing up Diana.
Daisy suddenly heard a familiar voice from outside and rushed out in surprise.
"Nicholas!"
Seeing Nicholas, Daisy's eyes filled with tears.
She really missed Nicholas.
But then she saw Caroline next to Nicholas, and her tears dried up, replaced by clenched fists of anger.
It was Lisa's chemo day, so Caroline naturally went with her. Nicholas insisted on coming along and had arranged for a VIP room at the hospital.
Caroline glanced at Daisy indifferently before helping Lisa into the room.
Nicholas didn't even look at Daisy. He wheeled himself in after Caroline.
Daisy hurried over, wanting to follow, but was stopped by Sharpe outside the room.
"Nicholas," Daisy called out.
Her voice, like an annoying buzz, made Nicholas frown. Sharpe got the hint and grabbed Daisy's arm.
"Ms. Wolf, the patient needs peace and quiet. Please leave."
Daisy struggled. "Let go of me! Who do you think you are, touching me? Let go!"
Sharpe ignored her and forcibly dragged her away.
Hearing the commotion, Mia quickly ran out.
"What are you doing!"
"Mom," Daisy said, feeling wronged.
Mia stood protectively in front of Daisy, raising her hand to slap Sharpe, but he deftly dodged.
Linda and Diana also came out to see what was happening.
"What's going on?" Linda asked.
"Aunt Linda, Caroline is too much. She actually ordered Nicholas's assistant to drag me away."
Sharpe's eyes widened. He couldn't believe how brazenly Daisy was twisting the truth.
He sternly corrected, "I only take orders from Mr. Lancaster."
Daisy said, "It's like Caroline's got Nicholas under some kinda spell. He's always in her corner now and even protects her."
Sharpe silently sympathized with Nicholas a bit more.
Sharpe thought, 'Being tangled up with a crazy woman like Daisy, Nicholas is truly unlucky.'
