Chapter 515 Feeling Wronged
Sophia picked up David and Colin from the airport. She had just arrived when Jennifer called her.
Colin had told her their return date well in advance.
They were back in City B for Christmas. Afterward, David had to return for work.
The Blackwood Group's move back home would start after Christmas.
Most of David's business was still abroad. He had a few patients there, and once their treatments were nearly done, he'd come back to settle down.
Colin got along well with Sophia and shared all these plans with her.
In the car, Sophia didn't mention anything about recent events at Fusion Dynamics Corporation. She chatted and laughed with Colin, and David occasionally joined in with a smile.
They arrived at The Blackwood Mansion.
"David, Colin, I'm heading out," Sophia said as soon as they got their luggage out.
Colin was puzzled. "Aren't you coming up for a bit?"
"No, I have something to do." Sophia looked a bit hesitant and lost, which Colin noticed.
Watching Sophia drive away, Colin and David took their luggage into the elevator.
Celeste was home. Seeing Colin and David return, her mood instantly lifted.
In the evening, Jennifer came home, and the family sat down to dinner. David heard that Patricia had fallen down the stairs and was still in the hospital for observation.
"Is she okay?" David asked calmly.
"Nothing serious, Patricia will be discharged the day after tomorrow." Celeste wanted to temper Patricia's character, so she didn't stay with her.
After all, Patricia was her granddaughter. If Patricia did something wrong, it was because she hadn't taught her well.
But she couldn't bear to give up on Patricia.
When the Browns heard Patricia was alone in the hospital, Ella offered to stay with her.
Celeste was somewhat displeased but couldn't bring herself to drive Ella away.
David didn't pay much attention to this, but when Colin heard Jennifer explain how Patricia got injured, he frowned. "Why did Sophie push her? Did she hurt Sophie?"
"It might be a misunderstanding. Sophie said she didn't push her," Jennifer explained.
"What kind of misunderstanding would cause Patricia to fall down the stairs?" Colin rarely delved so deeply.
He recalled what he had heard at the last banquet. He felt that Patricia and Ella were up to no good, plotting against someone.
Now, hearing about the conflict between Patricia and Sophia, he worried they were plotting against Sophia.
Jennifer couldn't explain, and Celeste, seeing Colin's determined attitude, sighed and recounted what Patricia had told her about the grudge between Patricia and Sophia over Gabriel.
Colin sneered. "It's obvious Gabriel doesn't like Patricia. How can she claim Sophie stole her fiancé?"
Celeste frowned. "Patricia is your sister. How can you speak of her like that?"
"A sister like that is better off not having." Colin was a gentleman and had never had conflicts with his family, let alone said anything harsh. This was the first time.
Celeste's face changed instantly upon hearing this.
"You..." She was so angry that her chest felt tight.
"Colin, watch your mouth," Jennifer scolded.
Colin knew he had upset Celeste. She had searched for her daughter for years, and anything related to Susan was crucial to her.
"I'm sorry, Grandma," Colin quickly apologized.
Celeste waved her hand. "I'm tired. I'll go rest in my room."
Jennifer helped Celeste back to her room.
David glared at Colin.
Feeling guilty, Colin stood up. "I'll bring Grandma a glass of water."
He ran to the kitchen and poured a glass of warm water.
In the room, Jennifer was talking to Celeste about today's events.
Celeste had been furious about the person who exposed Patricia's deceit. It was clear someone was deliberately targeting Patricia. However, after hearing Jennifer out, Celeste was silent for a long time.
She sighed deeply, "Sophie has been wronged. It's my fault. I valued and spoiled Patricia too much, which made her act recklessly. She even dared to hire paid trolls to cyberbully Sophie. Sophie didn't present the evidence openly to save our face."
Celeste's eyes gradually reddened as she recalled how she had made Sophia suffer many grievances to nurture Patricia after returning to the country. This time, Patricia almost ruined Sophia's future.
Celeste felt increasingly ashamed. "Patricia brought this upon herself."
Although Sophia's counterattack caused some minor losses to Fusion Dynamics Corporation, it was insignificant. Fusion Dynamics Corporation had grown so strong that money had become unimportant.
However, Patricia made such a mistake at the beginning. If she truly became the heiress of Fusion Dynamics Corporation in the future, someone would surely expose her scandal, causing a much bigger impact.
"Tomorrow, I'll go see Sophie."
"Okay."
Colin knocked on the door.
Celeste's door wasn't fully closed, so he heard their entire conversation from the doorway.
Now, he was even more certain that the "bitch" Ella and Patricia referred to was Sophia.
"Grandma," Colin said as he entered, "I was wrong earlier. I'm sorry."
Celeste took the water he brought and drank a sip. "It's okay."
Seeing that Celeste was no longer angry with him, Colin breathed a sigh of relief.
Sophia looked at the metal box on the table. Gabriel had said he found it in the ruins of Harbor Bay.
The fire had almost burned everything, but this metal box had survived.
She vaguely remembered seeing this box when she was very young. Her mother seemed to value it highly and had hidden it well.
She wondered what was inside.
Sophia tried to open the box, but it was locked with a mechanism, and she couldn't open it.
Even using brute force didn't work.
After many attempts, Sophia had to give up.
"Mommy, what's this?" The three adorable kids curiously looked at the metal box.
Sophia replied, "This is something that belonged to your grandmother."
"Can we open it and see?" Emma was eager to see her grandmother's belongings.
Sophia said, "I can't open it."
Ethan took the box and examined it, his eyes growing brighter with interest in the mechanism lock.
"Mommy, can I try?"
"Sure."
Ethan frowned. "But Mommy, I might need a few days."
"It's okay. If you can't open it, ask your daddy to help."
Most of Ethan's interests were inherited from Gabriel.
Tonight, Gabriel personally escorted Ruth to her room to rest, a task usually done by Betty.
Ruth squinted her eyes. "Spill it."
Gabriel smirked. "Grandma, I've discovered something and wanted to discuss it with you."
"What is it?"
