Chapter 295 Emma is Always Right

Unknown to Daisy, at that very moment, Josie had made a cup of fresh juice and brought it to her father in his study.

Emma had told her to do little things that would make her father feel cared for.

Since she knew how to make juice, she decided to make some for her dad to drink.

Nicholas was on a call when he saw his daughter enter. He quickly said to the person on the other end, "Let's handle it this way for now, and we'll discuss the rest tomorrow."

The person on the other end was momentarily stunned, but Nicholas had already hung up.

"Daddy, I made this juice myself," Josie said, her round face flushed and lips bright, her normally timid eyes sparkled like stars in the sky.

A warm feeling flowed through Nicholas's heart.

"You know how to make juice?" he asked, amazed.

At home, Mrs. Mary reported that Josie was treated like a princess, not lifting a finger - whatever she wanted to eat or drink, the maids would prepare it for her.

Josie emphasized, "Yes, I learned how to make it, especially for you, Daddy."

Emma had said it was important for her father to know that everything she did was especially for him.

In truth, she had learned to make juice because her mother liked it, although her mother always criticized her attempts as tasting bad.

Josie looked at her father with hopeful eyes.

Nicholas took a sip and remarked, "Not bad."

Seeing that her father liked it, Josie's eyes curved up with her smile.

It was great; Emma was right.

"Daddy?" Josie called out to him.

"Yes?" he replied.

"Can I continue learning the violin?" she asked, earnestly.

Nicholas's expression shifted slightly.

"Didn't you stop liking the violin?" he asked her,

"I do like playing the violin, I like it a lot," Josie answered, passionately.

A trace of coldness flickered in Nicholas's eyes.

Daisy dared to lie to him!

"All right, if you like it, Daddy will find you another teacher."

Josie shook her head.

Nicholas looked at her, puzzled.

"I still want to learn from Mrs. Roberts, Dad," Josie insisted, her voice tinged with determination. "Mrs. Roberts is really good. When Mom wouldn't let me take violin lessons, Mrs. Roberts taught me secretly at preschool. She's such a great teacher, and she doesn't get mad at me if I makes mistakes. She just comforts her instead."

Nicholas's face froze, a confused turmoil roiling within him. Josie had a lot more to say, her voice quivering with the weight of her feelings.

Emma had advised that when you tattle, you must seem pitiful, not scared. If you look scared, people might think you're guilty, and then telling on someone wouldn't work.

Nicholas reached out to gently pat his daughter's head. "Is Mrs. Roberts really good?" he asked.

Josie nodded vigorously, "Very, very good."

"All right, I'll ask Mrs. Roberts to come teach you. And about the new violin you asked for..."

The previous one had been thrown away by her mother.

"Sure," he agreed.

...

The next week passed, Sophia barely functioning at the office, almost scalding her hand while filling up a cup in the break room.

"Designer Kelly," started Designer Lee, eyeing Sophia's absent expression with concern. "Something going on at home?"

"No," Sophia lied lightly, shaking her head and quickly adding, "Just had a rough night."

"If you need any help, just say the word," offered Designer Lee.

"Thanks," Sophia managed to respond with a faint smile.

Once Designer Lee left, Sophia leaned against the counter, taking in a deep breath. The finals were fast approaching, yet her mind was far from readying herself for the competition.

She hadn't seen her kids in three days. Was Ethan crying? Emma most certainly must have shed tears. Sam probably didn't cry; he had just started to warm up to her, and now they were facing separation. Would he think she had abandoned him again?

Tears began to stream down Sophia's face as these thoughts overwhelmed her. Just then, KathyCaroline walked in, startled by the sight.

"What's the matter with you?" she asked, concerned. Was Sophia hiding here, crying out of fear of failing the finals?

Sophia quickly wiped away her tears, concocting a hasty excuse, "Just got emotional over a TV show plot, it's nothing." She hurriedly left with her cup in hand.

Margaret also noticed Sophia's demeanor was off and pulled her into the office.

"Is it the pressure of the finals getting to you?" she inquired.

Sophia shook her head.

"Trouble at home?"

Another shake of the head.

"Tell you what, I'm going to give you a few days off. These finals are important, and you can't compete in this state. Take a vacation, relax a bit, maybe find some design inspiration."

Sophia knew her continued presence at work was causing concern, so she agreed to take the leave.

One evening, Kathy knocked on Sophia's door.

"Why are you here?" Sophia asked with an indifferent expression.

Kathy greeted her with a smile and said, "I just wanted to check how you're doing, and I brought you some local specialties from back home."

"Thanks," Sophia said.

Since a coworker had come over, Sophia felt she couldn't just turn her away, so she invited Kathy to come in for a cup of tea.

"Do you live here alone, Sophia?" Kathy asked.

Sophia replied, "With a friend."

"Are you married?" Kathy probed.

Sophia tersely replied, "No."

Kathy engaged in some awkward small talk.

"How did you meet Mrs. Arya's son?" Kathy asked curiously.

‘That must have been the reason for her visit.’ Sophia thought. She gave a faint smile and said, "Through my best friend."

"Could you maybe introduce us too?" Kathy requested, pushing her luck.

Sophia gave her a blank look. "Colin has gone back to the States, and he will be getting married soon," she said, indifferently.

Last time, Mrs. Arya bought a house that was being renovated. Sophia figured Colin would probably have his wedding this year.

Kathy looked at Sophia suspiciously, thinking, ‘She couldn't be just making up an excuse to brush her off, could she?’

"Then can you introduce me to Mrs. Arya?" she asked, brazenly.

Sophia wasn't in the mood to deal with Kathy's audacity and bluntly said, "I can't."

Kathy stood up furiously.

"What marriage? You're just making up excuses because you don't want to introduce us,” she accused.

Sophia's face turned stern. "So, what if I am."

"You!" Kathy was left speechless by the retort.

"It's getting late; please leave Designer Chen," Sophia said, uninterested in further discussion, eager to show her out.

Kathy left biting her lip in anger as if she wanted to chew Sophia up.

Sophia told her, "The specialties you brought don't agree with me; please take them with you."

Fuming, Kathy grabbed her things and stormed out.

No sooner had she left, Sophia promptly closed the door behind her. Kathy stomped her foot outside in vexation.

Just wait, one day Sophia will need something from her!

After sending Kathy away, Sophia felt the world go quiet around her. Her thoughts drifted as she stared at a fruit knife on the table for a long time.

Her phone suddenly rang. It was Jake Hughes.

"Kelly," he said, using his nickname for her, "I'm hungry."

"Come over," she replied. "I'll make you some late-night meals."

"Okay."
Jake Hughes was just downstairs, and he dashed up the stairs eagerly to snag some late-night snacks.

Considering how much Jake Hughes had done for her, Sophia was quite fond of him.

"You're not eating?" Jake Hughes frowned as he eyed the single bowl of noodles.

He had helplessly watched Sophia lose weight.

He noticed that, after the three children weren't home, Sophia hardly cooked and ate very little.

To get her to eat more, he made a point of dropping by for meals, coaxing Sophia to cook, but each time, she barely ate and claimed to have lost her appetite.
