Chapter 244 Amnesia

Tiffany pulled Sam behind her, protectively, and watched Sophia warily.

"What do you want? This is a mall, don't cause a scene."

Sophia was slightly out of breath as she stared at Tiffany's hand gripping Sam's. She barked fiercely, "Let him go!"

"Sophia, don't push it."

"I said let him go, did you hear me!"

Startled by Sophia's commanding presence, Tiffany froze for a few seconds, allowing Sophia to pry her hand off and bring Sam to her side.

Standing by the staircase, Sophia was cautious of Sam's safety, purposefully moving him further inside where it was safer.

"You don't really think I'd hurt Sam, do you, Sophia? Are you suffering from some delusional disorder of persecution? I'm telling you, it's a sickness that needs treatment," Tiffany spat in frustration. Seeing where Sophia stood, a sinister thought flickered through Tiffany's mind.

This dark thought slowly overtook her reason, and she stepped toward Sophia.

If Sophia fell from here, she wouldn't die, but she would definitely suffer broken limbs.

Sophia, tired of dealing with what she viewed as irredeemable madness, was about to leave with Sam when Tiffany suddenly grabbed her.

"Don't even think about taking Sam away."

"Get out of my way!" Sophia snapped, shaking off Tiffany.

"You let go of Sam first."

As they struggled, Tiffany gave Sophia a subtle but forceful push.

Sophia was ready when Tiffany lunged unexpectedly and stumbled, her high heel twisting beneath her. She completely lost her balance and looked deathly pale as she began to fall.

Before plunging to the ground, Tiffany grasped at Sophia's clothing, determined not to let go even in death, while simultaneously attempting to reach for Sam.

Sam, concerned for his mommy, tried to pull her to safety.

"Watch out!"

"Sam!"

Two voices cried out at once as two figures dashed over, each grabbing someone just as a ripping sound followed by a tumble of objects cascaded down the stairs.

Sophia's heart pounded furiously, her mouth trembling in fright. She found herself pushed into a broad, firm embrace, enveloped by a familiar scent. The pounding hearts were so loud she couldn't distinguish if it was her own or his.

After a two-second blank, Sophia snapped back to reality and immediately pushed Gabriel away.

"Where's Sam?"

Turning her head, she saw that David had shielded Sam thoroughly, the little boy's face ashen.

She pulled Sam into her arms.

"Mommy was so scared, but thank God you're okay, sweetheart. Don't be afraid."

Sophia was still trying to collect herself as she comforted the little one.

Gabriel stood at the top of the stairs, powerless to do anything but watch as Tiffany rolled down like a rubber ball. Upon exiting the elevator, he had seen the confrontation by the stairs. Concerned for Sam's safety, he had quickened his pace.

When he drew near, he saw the shoving match, which led to this perilous incident.

In that critical moment, David never forgot his duty to protect Sam. Dropping his shopping bags, he pulled Sam back to safety.

Gabriel then turned to pull Sophia. For a moment, he feared he couldn't hold on to her. His heart was in his throat, tense and tight.

He didn't think once about pulling Tiffany. He just couldn't bear the thought of Sophia falling.

He thought, if this woman were to be hurt, it would enrage him, devastate Sam, send Grandma into a decline, and leave him in anguish.

The commotion drew the attention of bystanders, and after Tiffany rolled to the bottom, she hit her head, seeing stars before losing consciousness.

Good Samaritans came over to check on them.

Seeing Sophia and Sam were safe, Gabriel quickly descended the stairs to check on Tiffany.

Eventually, Tiffany was lifted into an ambulance, regaining consciousness to the pain, only to hear the doctor announce, "Your wrist is broken," before she passed out again.

In the ambulance, Sophia held Sam close, still shaken, and cast a puzzled glance at Gabriel in the driver's seat.

That jerk actually didn't follow the ambulance to take care of Tiffany; instead, he let David go with her.

Wasn't Tiffany his fiancée?

He had even made a big deal about bringing her into the company and showing off their affection in public, but when trouble hit, he didn't care whether his fiancée lived or died?

Typical of a scumbag, true to his nature.

If Gabriel knew that's what Sophia was thinking about him, who knew how mad he'd get.

Between Tiffany and Sam, obviously Sam was the most important to him. Sam had been scared, and he was more worried about Sam having an episode, while Tiffany didn't seem to have any serious problems.

Sophia wanted to take Sam home, and Gabriel had no objections.

He found that Sophia really knew how to soothe the child, and decided it was more suitable for Sam to stay with mommy tonight.

After dropping the two off at Flora Garden, Gabriel watched as Sam's complexion started to get its color back. He gave a couple of words of advice before heading to the hospital.

On his way there, David called.

"Miss Foster woke up, but she seems to be out of it."

Out of it? What did that mean?

When Gabriel arrived at the hospital, he saw Tiffany sitting up in the bed, staring into space with a pale face and her left arm in a cast, her gaze vacant.

"How is she?" Gabriel asked the doctor standing by.

The doctor said, "She's suffering temporary amnesia due to a concussion, and she has a fractured left arm that will require a cast for some time."

Amnesia!

Gabriel walked up to Tiffany, who moved her eyes around, glanced at him, tried to remember, but couldn't, and then asked.

"Who are you?"

"You really don't recognize me?" Gabriel asked with a penetrating look that was almost overwhelming.

Tiffany thought again, shook her head, and almost fell over dizzy.

Gabriel reached out to steady her right arm.

"I don't know you, who exactly are you?" Tiffany asked curiously.

"A friend."

Tiffany uttered an "Oh" and then curiously asked, "Then who am I?"

"Your name is Tiffany Foster."

Like a child filled with wonder, Tiffany had a lot of questions, and Gabriel answered her with succinct replies until she got dizzy and lay down to sleep.

Gabriel came out frowning.

Alex had already retrieved the surveillance video from the mall, which showed Tiffany arguing with Sophia, accidentally falling down, and, in panic, grabbing onto Sophia.

However, her other hand seemed to be reaching for Sam?

In moments of panic, people instinctively try to grab anything they can.

A suspicion flashed through Gabriel's mind.

Based solely on the surveillance, it was impossible to determine whether Tiffany had intended to pull Sam down with her.

From David's account, Tiffany took Sam shopping at the mall and bought him a lot of clothes, which suggested that Tiffany was trying to win Sam over.

Gabriel, nursing a headache, asked the doctor, "How long will it take for her to recover?"

The doctor replied, "With proper rest, she could be better in a month or two, or it could take up to six months or a year. We still need to perform more tests to check if there is any bruising in the brain."

"Please use the best treatment plan available for her."

"We'll do our best."

Tiffany remembered nothing, filled with both curiosity and fear towards the world, much like a newborn baby.

When she woke up again, she was anxious to find Gabriel.
