Chapter 306 Unable to Awaken
Caroline returned home and saw Sophia there.
"Sophia, are you okay?" Caroline asked, seeing Sophia lost in thought.
Upon hearing the voice, Sophia's eyes flickered.
"I'm fine." Caroline smiled at Sophia, and said, "I'm okay, don't worry too much. By the way, is the headmistress feeling better?"
Caroline informed, "The pain has lessened after the surgery."
Sophia asked, "What's the follow-up treatment plan?"
Caroline said, "The tumor was only partially removed for now. There will be another surgery later, and the treatment plan will be decided based on the situation."
Caroline sat down to chat with Sophia.
Sophia asked, "This must cost a lot of money, do you have enough?"
"I can figure out the money, Sophia, thank you," Caroline said and hugged Sophia, feeling fortunate to have such a good friend like Sophia.
If meeting Nicholas in the first half of her life was Caroline's misfortune, meeting Sophia in the second half was her luck.
Sophia handed her car keys to Caroline, and said, "You can drive my car."
Caroline was surprised.
Sophia explained, "I know you sold your car. If you need to, you can sell my car too. As for this house..."
Caroline interrupted sternly, "What house? This is where you and the kids live."
Sophia was about to have no children left.
Sophia replied, "All right, I won't sell the house. How about you sell my car."
Caroline insisted, "I told you, I can figure out the money."
The two good friends sat together and chatted for a while. Sophia went to the kitchen to cook, while Caroline took out her violin from the room.
Caroline gently stroked the violin and whispered, "Old friend, I'm sorry, I have no choice but to part with you."
Then Caroline found some jewelry.
Caroline had dinner at home with Sophia. Today, Sophia had a good appetite, and they finished all the dishes. Caroline took a shower and then went to the hospital.
She had to stay overnight at the hospital.
The next day, Caroline took the jewelry and violin to sell them.
The jewelry sold out at the jewelry store, but Caroline could only return the violin to the original seller.
The shop owner carefully examined Caroline's violin.
The shop owner said, "This is a custom-made piece from several years ago, unique, but it has been used for so long. I can only offer this amount for it."
Caroline questioned, "Ten thousand?"
It was too little. The violin was worth eighty thousand when it was purchased. Caroline had used it for five or six years, maintaining it well, and it still looked new.
Especially the music it produced when played, was a hundred times better than an ordinary violin.
The shop owner was also in a dilemma, and said, "I can only offer this price at most. If you think it's too low, you can try the dark web. There are people there willing to pay a high price. They usually create a buzz and auction it off after receiving the goods."
The shop owner added, "I operate legitimately here, so I really can't offer more."
Ten thousand was too little, and Caroline couldn't bear to sell it. She left with the violin.
The shop owner pondered for a while and finally remembered.
He recalled that this violin was custom-made by Mr. Nicholas, a unique piece. How did it end up in Caroline's hands?
And Caroline seemed particularly eager to get the money.
At the Smith residence, a call came in for Mr. Smith. After hearing about the situation, Nicholas remembered.
The shop owner asked, "Mr. Smith, did you lose the custom-made violin you ordered years ago?"
"What?" Nicholas replied and didn't understand why he was being asked this.
The shop owner explained, "Today, a woman came to the store in a hurry to sell a violin, and I recognized it as the one you ordered."
From the keywords, Nicholas concluded. That violin was a special symbol of his relationship with Caroline, and he didn't expect her to still have it.
But now Caroline was planning to sell it!
Nicholas felt a surge of anger in his heart.
His tone also instantly turned cold, he said, "The violin wasn't lost, I gave it away."
The shop owner breathed a sigh of relief, and replied, "All right."
Nicholas asked, "Did she sell it?"
The shop owner replied, "She thought my price was low, so I suggested she try the dark web."
Nicholas said, "All right."
If the shop owner had recognized the violin earlier, he would have definitely bought it back at a high price and then passed it on to Mr. Smith. Unfortunately, he didn't keep Caroline's contact information, so he couldn't reach her now.
Since the violin didn't sell, Caroline took it back home first and then went to record the second episode of the variety show.
Caroline was a bit late due to some delays. When she arrived, she saw everyone waiting for her alone, and she felt apologetic.
Caroline apologized, "Sorry, something held me up."
"Not very high in status, but quite a pretty face," a somewhat famous person online made a sarcastic remark.
Caroline pretended not to hear and ignored it.
The director said, "All right, everyone quickly retouch your makeup, we're starting soon."
"Caroline, you haven't put on makeup," the director said as he saw Caroline standing there motionless, her face bare.
"I..." Caroline had forgotten.
While everyone else was touching up their makeup, the makeup artist was overwhelmed. Caroline had intended to do it herself, but the director called out, "Let's start recording."
In the end, Caroline had to go on camera without makeup.
Fortunately, Caroline had good looks. Although she hadn't rested well recently and had slight dark circles, they weren't very noticeable on camera.
Caroline tied her hair up in a fresh high ponytail and dressed casually, and today's activities included bungee jumping and skydiving.
Midway through the recording, an artist had a minor accident, so the recording was paused.
Caroline had to pack up and leave.
Emma waited for two days but didn't see her mom at the old mansion, nor did she receive a call from her.
"Madam, what if Mommy doesn't come?" Emma said and was very worried.
"She will come," Madam reassured Emma.
Emma said, "I want to call Mommy."
Madam took her phone and called Sophia, but no one answered.
Ethan came downstairs.
Emma frantically said, "Ethan, Mommy isn't answering the phone."
Ethan had spoken to Mommy on the phone last night, and she had asked him to take care of Emma and Sam.
He tried calling twice more, but still no answer.
Ethan had a vague feeling of unease and worry.
The conversation with Mommy last night didn't seem right. She only asked him to take care of Emma and Sam, without mentioning coming to pick them up.
Ethan instructed, hastily, "Call Caroline!"
Caroline quickly answered the phone.
Ethan asked, "Caroline, where is my Mommy?"
Caroline replied, "She should be at home."
Ethan pleaded, "Please go check on Mommy at home. She's not answering the phone, and I'm really worried."
A bad premonition suddenly struck Caroline.
Caroline replied, "All right."
Twenty minutes later, at Blue End, Colin stood at Sophia's doorbell, but no one answered. She called but got no response.
Colin had landed and rested for a night yesterday, and today he had some free time, so he wanted to visit Sophia.
Just as Colin was about to leave, he saw Caroline hurrying out of the elevator.
Caroline greeted, "Mr. Colin."
Colin asked, "Caroline, where is Sophia?"
Caroline remarked, "Isn't she at home?"
Colin shook his head, and replied, "No one is answering the door."
Caroline took out her key and opened the door, finding it tightly shut with all the windows and curtains closed, casting a gloomy atmosphere.
Caroline noticed that Sophia's slippers were not in the shoe cabinet.
Sophia should be at home.
Caroline quietly entered Sophia's room and saw her sound asleep on the bed, deeply unconscious.
