Chapter 654 Speaking

At the hospital, Sam got rushed in 'cause they were scared he might go into hypoxic shock. Luckily, they got him there just in time, and after an hour of emergency treatment, he was finally out of the woods.

Ethan and Emma stayed right by his side, holding his hands like they were trying to give him some of their strength.

"Mom, why hasn't Sam woken up yet?" Emma asked, her eyes all red and puffy from crying.

Sophia gently replied, "Let's give it a bit more time. The doctor said he's just sleeping now. He'll wake up once he's rested enough."

Colin got the news and hurried over.

He let out a big sigh of relief when he found out Sam was okay.

He hadn't told Celeste about any of this yet.

Half an hour later, Sam finally woke up.

He blinked his eyes open, his long lashes fluttering like feathers, showing his clear, beautiful eyes.

At first, his eyes were still full of fear, but when he saw Sophia, he immediately threw himself into her arms.

"Mommy, don't leave me," he whimpered, his voice soft like a little animal.

Sophia's heart ached, and she hugged him tight.

"Mommy's not going anywhere, Sam. Don't be scared, I'm right here."

"Ethan and I are here too," Ethan said firmly.

Emma chimed in, "Yeah, Sam, don't be scared. Me, Ethan, Daddy, and Mommy are all here. We won't ever leave you."

Sam slowly started to calm down, the fear in his eyes fading. He looked up at Sophia, still a bit confused.

It really was Sophia.

Sam thought, 'Mommy came to save me.'

"Mommy," he called out, his eyes full of longing.

Sophia's heart melted.

"Mommy's here."

Today, Sam not only called her "mommy" but also said more words.

Sophia's eyes instantly filled with tears.

"Sam, can you talk to Mommy a bit more?" Her voice was choked with emotion.

Colin, standing nearby, felt like crying too.

"Yes, Mommy." Sam hugged her waist and nestled in her arms. "With you here, I'm not scared anymore."

This was the first time Sam had really talked to her.

Sophia felt the tears streaming down her face.

"Mommy, don't cry. I'm okay now." Sam reached out to wipe her tears.

Sophia held his hand.

"Mommy's just so happy. My Sam finally talked to me."

"I'm sorry, Mommy," Sam said, looking down. "I was too scared before, so I didn't dare to talk to you. I..."

Sophia interrupted, "It's okay. Now that you're talking to me, does that mean you've fully accepted me?"

"Yes, as long as you don't leave me," Sam nodded emphatically.

"I'll never leave you." Sophia reached out and hugged Ethan and Emma too. Sam was squeezed in the middle, feeling a bit squished, but he was especially happy and content.

It felt like something had finally clicked, and he was open to talking to Sophia.

Gabriel came back from talking to the doctor and saw Sophia hugging the three kids.

"Sam." Gabriel walked up.

Sam opened his mouth and called out, "Daddy."

Gabriel was stunned. He heard Sam call him again.

This time it felt different.

"Are you still feeling uncomfortable anywhere?" Gabriel asked gently.

Sam shook his head. "No."

Gabriel's eyes flickered with surprise, then he looked at Sam."Sam, you're talking?"

"Yeah."

Gabriel was so happy he didn't know what to do with himself. He reached out but then just kind of froze.

Inside, he was cheering, 'Sam's talking! He finally wants to talk!'

After a moment, Gabriel smiled.

"I'm sorry, it was my fault you were in danger again." Gabriel could only pat Sam's head.

Sam said, "It's not your fault, Dad. It's Tiffany's fault."

Emma chimed in angrily, "Yeah, it's all that bad woman's fault. We need to make sure she gets punished."

Ethan added, "She used to lock Sam in the dark room at the amusement park to scare him."

He had wanted to say this before but was afraid Gabriel wouldn't believe him.

Ethan thought, 'Now that Tiffany's been caught red-handed locking Sam in the elevator, she won't get away with it!'

Gabriel's eyes narrowed.

Tiffany had been taken away by the police. He hadn't gone to the station to get the details yet. Now that Sam was okay, he had time to think about everything.

Gabriel's eyes gradually filled with a crimson hue.

So it was him who had kept Tiffany around, and he had even tried to make her Sam's stepmother!

'It's me who hurt Sam!' he thought.

Gabriel, overwhelmed with guilt, took a step back, his tall figure swaying slightly.

"Sam."

His voice was hoarse, like something was stuck in his throat.

"I'm sorry, Sam." He wanted to pat Sam's head again but suddenly felt unworthy. "It was my fault you didn't want to talk."

Sam shook his head vigorously. "No. It's not your fault."

He broke free from Sophia's embrace and grabbed Gabriel's hand.

"Dad, don't blame yourself." Sam hugged his hand, his eyes shining like stars, healing Gabriel in that moment.

Gabriel bent down and picked Sam up.

Sam hugged Gabriel's neck.

"Dad works hard, and Dad loves me very much."

Sam's words comforted Gabriel.

This made Gabriel feel even more guilty.

Gabriel thought, 'I'm not a good father. All these years, I didn't see Tiffany's true nature. Sophia was right to scold me. I let down Sam, Ethan, Emma, and Sophia. I owe them all so much.'

"Dad, don't be sad," Sam continued to comfort him.

Gabriel kissed his forehead.

"Okay, Dad won't be sad. Are you hungry?"

Sam nodded.

"What do you want to eat? Dad will get it."

"Burger."

"Okay."

Gabriel usually didn't let Sam eat burgers, but today he would make an exception.

Gabriel put Sam down. After consulting the doctor, he went to get burgers.

Colin pinched Sam's cheek.

"How about chatting with me?"

Sam nodded.

Sophia took Ethan and Emma to sit aside, giving Colin and Sam some space.

She watched Colin's expression become more and more joyful as he talked with Sam, making her heart tense.

In the end, Colin couldn't help but smile and said, "This time, Sam has turned misfortune into a blessing. He's overcome his psychological barriers and is willing to accept the world."

Sophia's eyes widened in surprise.

"Are you saying that Sam can live like a normal person from now on?"
