Chapter 218 Gabriel Could Only Eat Instant Noodles
The three little ones were adorable and especially pleasing to the eye. Each of them was fair, clean, cute, and sweet-talking.
Madam Blackwood secretly regretted not having prepared any gifts for them.
Sophia and Caroline set the food on the table.
"Grandma, Madam Blackwood, dinner is ready."
Everyone took their seats. The ward was now bustling, far from its usual quietness.
This Christmas dinner was ordinary yet special. The VIP ward was well soundproofed, and only a bit of the laughter inside leaked out, not disturbing other patients. The on-duty nurse outside listened with envy.
Ethan looked at Madam Blackwood, who looked a bit like his mommy and was as kind as his great-grandma. She had a particularly peaceful aura about her that inexplicably made people want to get close to her.
Colin didn't expect to have a warm Christmas dinner in the hospital and celebrate the holiday with so many people.
Compared to Jade, the Blackwood family's own granddaughter, Sophia seemed naturally closer to them.
On such a big holiday, Jade had left them in the hospital without a care. She had come to visit in the morning but left in a hurry.
Colin didn't care if Jade came or not. After all, they had just recognized each other, and it was normal if their feelings were not deep but comparison was sometimes the only way to discover flaws.
After seeing Sophia's Christmas dinner, Colin felt that Jade was somewhat thoughtless.
Emma brought her violin, and after dinner, the three children performed. Emma played the violin, and Ethan and Sam demonstrated martial arts.
Initially, Sam was reluctant, but they had agreed beforehand to entertain their great-grandma, so Sam overcame his psychological barrier.
The Christmas gala was playing on the TV, but no one was watching. They were all watching the children perform.
While they were celebrating Christmas here, Gabriel was alone in Z City.
He had just finished his work and returned to the hotel. Facing the cold and empty room, Gabriel began to feel hollow inside.
He had received news early this morning and immediately rushed to Z City, thinking he could finish and return in the afternoon.
However, he was working till now, and there were no more flights. He could only wait until tomorrow.
Tiffany called.
"Merry Christmas Eve, Gabriel. This is our sixth Christmas Eve together."
Strictly speaking, they hadn't really spent it together. Every Christmas Eve, Gabriel would go home, and she wasn't allowed into the manor.
Tiffany could only stay in Mansion Heights, waiting for Gabriel to finish his work and have time to meet her.
"Merry Christmas Eve," Gabriel said coldly.
He stood by the window, looking at the brightly lit streets outside.
Once, he too had a family reunion on Christmas Eve. When his parents were alive, they would prepare a table full of delicious food.
He remembered the Christmas Eve when he married Sophia. She had also prepared a table full of good food.
But he was busy with work and didn't get home until late. All the servants in the house were on holiday. He hadn't eaten all day and was starving. He couldn't find anything to eat in the kitchen.
In the end, Sophia made him a bowl of vegetarian noodles, and he wolfed them down without even tasting them.
The next day, his grandma showed him a photo of the Christmas dinner. Gabriel still remembered that photo; the table was full of delicious and nutritious meals.
His grandma said he had no luck with food, and he indeed had no luck with food.
Gabriel's stomach growled, reminding him that he hadn't eaten since noon.
Sadly, the hotel restaurant was also closed. Gabriel had no choice but to order takeout on his phone, only to find that all the nearby shops were closed for the holiday.
Not a single shop was open.
In the end, Gabriel was so hungry that he feared he might get a stomachache if he didn't eat something.
He had to call the hotel staff to bring up some food.
The staff brought him a box of instant noodles and some ham.
Gabriel looked at the instant noodles as his mouth twitched.
"Is there anything else?"
The staff replied, "Only instant noodles are available now."
For this Christmas dinner, if Gabriel didn't want to go hungry, he could only eat instant noodles.
At this moment, he began to wonder what Sophia had cooked for Christmas dinner.
She probably went to the hospital to celebrate the holiday with Grandma, right?
He felt relieved that she and Sam were staying by Grandma’s side.
Maybe he should give them a call.
The phone connected; it was a bit noisy on the other end.
"Grandma, what are you doing?"
Madam Lancaster chuckled, "Watching TV."
"It sounds lively over there."
"Yes, Sam's two friends are here, and Sophia has cooked a whole table of delicious dishes. Madam Blackwood and Colin are here too. It's quite festive; it's a pity you're not here."
Madam Lancaster's last sentence was like a dagger to his heart.
He didn't like too much hustle and bustle, but he also wished to have his family by his side during the holidays.
The stark contrast between Gabriel's solitude and Madam Lancaster's lively atmosphere was evident. If it weren't for the fact that the two of them couldn't stay up too late, Sophia would even want to prepare a late-night snack.
Madam Lancaster hung up the phone.
Although she felt sorry for her grandson being alone outside, she still heartlessly said some painful remarks to him.
Hmph, he should taste the bitterness of loneliness, only then would he understand the meaning of "Home is where the heart is."
On the way back, Caroline asked Sophia, "Will Gabriel find out if we 'boldly' have Christmas dinner with Madam Lancaster tonight?"
"Don't worry, Gabriel has gone to City Z; he won't find out."
With Madam Lancaster's help, Sophia no longer had to worry all the time that Gabriel would discover Ethan and Emma.
Madam Lancaster was very resourceful.
It was Madam Lancaster's doing that Gabriel was forced to go on a business trip to City Z at the last minute.
Gabriel wouldn't arrive in City B until the afternoon of the day after tomorrow, so Ethan, Emma, and Sam came to the hospital again in the morning to spend Christmas with their great-grandmothers.
Madam Blackwood held Sophia’s hand and said, "I'll be going back to M Country in a couple of days when I'm feeling a bit better. I don't know when we'll see each other again after this farewell. You've really worked hard; you brought me food every day, and you've given me an unforgettable Christmas Eve."
Around ten o'clock, Sophia took the children home. As she entered the elevator, the elevator next door arrived.
Jade stepped out, took a few steps, and then suddenly stopped as she glanced at the just-closed elevator.
Strange, she thought she saw Sophia.
Must be an illusion.
Sophia had been dead for so many years.
Without suspicion, Jade went straight to Madam Blackwood's hospital room to spend Christmas with her grandmother.
