Chapter 715 Not Worthy?

The next day, Sophia went to the hospital where Gabriel had his check-up, and asked the director for Gabriel's medical report.

After reading it, Sophia asked, "Can his illness be controlled with medication for now?"

The expert standing next to the director adjusted his glasses and said seriously, "Right now, medication can only temporarily relieve the pain. If he continues to delay, the situation will only get worse. We still recommend that Mr. Lancaster be admitted for surgery as soon as possible."

Sophia asked, "What's the latest he can have the surgery?"

"One month." he replied.

Sophia left the hospital, and Gabriel sent her a message telling her he had safely arrived in Country M.

Sitting in the car, Sophia typed a long message on her phone but finally deleted it all.

Her mind was in chaos.

She hadn't realized Gabriel's condition was so serious.

Sophia wondered, 'But why didn't he tell me and Ruth? Why didn't he go to the hospital for treatment?'

Sophia thought about the recent events at the Lancaster Group. Maybe things were more complicated than she knew, and the crisis at the Lancaster Group wasn't over yet.

She finally replied with an "ok."

Then she quietly contacted Alex.

It was already midnight in Country M. Gabriel was still busy, and Alex was in the hospital room. Seeing Sophia's call, he stepped outside to answer.

Sophia asked, "Alex, what's really going on with the Lancaster Group?"

Alex evaded, "Just an economic crisis, it's been resolved."

"Stop lying to me. I already know about Gabriel's condition. And what happened with Harrison over there?" Sophia's voice was very stern.

Alex glanced at the hospital room, frowned, and after a moment of silence, sighed, "Mr. Lancaster didn't want me to tell you and Ruth. The company still has many potential crises. Mr. Lancaster is worried that the person behind all this might target you, the kids, and Ruth, so he kept his illness a secret from everyone."

If the enemy took advantage of Gabriel's illness and weakness, it could be a fatal blow to the Lancaster family and the entire Lancaster Group.

Therefore, Gabriel didn't dare to act rashly and had to hide his illness, temporarily unable to go to the hospital for surgery.

Alex added, "Harrison was seriously injured. We can't make it public yet, not even to Harrison's fiancée."

The company had just resolved a crisis, and if word got out that Harrison, the general manager, was attacked and seriously injured, it would surely cause the company to lose hundreds of millions more.

Sophia frowned tightly and asked, "Have you found out who is behind this?"

Alex replied, "Not yet, but we suspect it has something to do with Micro Circuit Group."

Micro Circuit Group, Jake!

Sophia recalled that every time Gabriel met with Jake, there was always some secret conflict. She had once asked Jake, and he said Gabriel had hurt him, so he didn't like Gabriel.

At that time, she hadn't forgiven Gabriel and naturally believed Jake's words.

Could it really be Jake who was targeting the Lancaster Group so viciously?

Alex briefly explained the competitive relationship between Micro Circuit Group and the Lancaster Group to Sophia.

"I understand. Thank you, Alex. What is Gabriel doing now?"

Alex replied, "Mr. Lancaster is still working."

A pang of pain crossed Sophia's heart.

Sophia reminded, "Please take good care of him."

"I will." Alex nodded.

After hanging up, Sophia's mind was even more muddled.

She stared ahead intently. Since that day she had cleared things up with Jake, he hadn't contacted her or sent her any messages, and neither had she.

But recently, Jake had been featured in many magazine articles and news reports. After Micro Circuit Group's quarterly financial report was released, Jake's net worth had increased significantly.

Now, in the entire City B, besides Gabriel, Jake was the most eligible bachelor, the one whom many women wanted to marry.

Sophia opened Jake's Facebook, her finger hovering over his photo. After two minutes, she exited the chat interface.

Jennifer had noticed all day that Sophia was distracted.

At four in the afternoon, Jennifer called Sophia into her office.

Sophia had been thinking all day. At this point, she should help Gabriel; she was really worried about his health.

Ruth still didn't know, and she hadn't dared to tell her.

Sophia said, "Aunt, after the fashion show, I want to take a vacation."

Jennifer was momentarily surprised but quickly agreed, "No problem, take as long as you need."

Sophia had been so busy with the fashion show that she had lost weight, and Celeste felt heartbroken every time she saw her.

Alex informed Gabriel that Sophia already knew about his condition, and Gabriel was panicking.

Sophie knew but didn't ask him first; instead, she went to Alex!

She must be angry.

Gabriel didn't care what time it was back home and anxiously called Sophia directly.

The phone rang for a long time before Sophia answered.

Sophia answered in a cold tone, "Hello."

Gabriel was silent.

After a few seconds, Gabriel's weak voice came through, "Sophie."

"Yes?"

"My stomach hurts."

If Gabriel were in front of her now, Sophia would have rolled her eyes at him.

Now Gabriel wanted comfort?

"Gabriel, what am I to you?" Sophia asked seriously.

Gabriel could imagine her delicate face tensing up, showing a stern expression.

"Girlfriend," he answered.

"So a girlfriend doesn't deserve to know her boyfriend's health condition?"

Sophia's questioning made Gabriel nervous, wanting to ask for forgiveness.

"I... I didn't want you to worry."

Sophia took a deep breath, holding back her anger.

Sophia said, "Gabriel, I know you're very capable, and you can handle many things on your own, but have you ever thought that you have me by your side? I can fight with you."

"You want to protect the family, and so do I. Ethan, Sam, and Emma are my children too. Grandma has been so good to me; she's already like my own grandmother in my heart."

"You're not suffering from an ordinary illness; it's one that could worsen at any moment. Do you understand the consequences?"

As Sophia spoke, her tears started to fall.

The atmosphere suddenly became quiet. Neither Sophia nor Gabriel spoke. Gabriel held the phone tightly to his ear, faintly hearing her rapid breathing due to agitation.

After a long while, Gabriel finally spoke, "I was wrong. I won't hide anything from you anymore."

Sophia didn't want to talk to him and was about to hang up.

Gabriel's voice lowered, sounding pitiful, "It really hurts."

Sophia's heart softened, and she didn't hang up.

She said irritably, "Take a painkiller."

Gabriel replied, "I took one, but it didn't help."

"Then bear with it!"

"I can't, it hurts too much."

"What do you want?"

"I miss you."

Sophia's anger vanished instantly.
