Chapter 732 Haven't Given Up Yet
Everyone surrounded Ruth, on high alert, fearing that Jake might suddenly harm her.
After a while, Jake lifted his head and looked at Ruth through the bodyguards with a complicated expression.
He stubbornly continued, "Where is Sophia?"
Ruth snorted coldly, "Sophia won't see you. Give it up!"
"Then I'll search all of City B to find her!"
With that, Jake turned and left.
His emotions surged as he got into the car and headed straight for the Blackwood Manor.
Halfway there, he suddenly hit the brakes.
Something was wrong!
This didn't make sense.
Didn't Ruth treat Sophia like her own granddaughter? If Sophia were dead, could Ruth still speak to him so calmly?
This meant that Sophia might not be dead!
Jake was pleasantly surprised, and he couldn't help but smile, and almost laugh out loud.
Jake thought, 'Great, she's still alive. Where is she now? I wanted to see her.'
In the hospital, Gabriel's newly stitched wound was being taken out.
The doctor repeatedly warned, "This time, make sure your wound doesn't reopen. Also, take good care of your stomach. Avoid spicy foods and maintain a good diet for at least two years."
"You'll also need regular check-ups to prevent any recurrence."
Gabriel was annoyed. This doctor was so nagging.
Sophia gently pinched his arm and then smiled at the doctor, "Okay, we understand. Thank you."
Gabriel pouted.
"When can I be discharged?"
"You can leave in two days," the doctor said while packing up.
Gabriel asked, "Can't I leave today?"
"Because Mr. Lancaster's condition is quite special, we recommend observing for two more days."
Sophia pinched him again, "Listen to the doctor!"
The doctor left with a smile, followed by the nurses.
Gabriel continued to pout.
He was really frustrated. He wondered, 'What kind of hospital was this, keeping me for so long? When could I go home and happily hold Sophia and the kids?'
Sophia only came during the day now, spending the nights at home with the kids, which left Gabriel alone in the hospital every night.
Emma said, "Daddy isn't a child anymore. You need to listen to the doctor to get better."
Sam nodded in agreement.
Ethan covered his mouth, giggling.
Gabriel remained silent.
Alright, he was being educated by Emma.
Gabriel picked Emma up and placed her on his lap, pinching her chubby cheeks.
The family was having a joyful time in the hospital room when Jake, standing not far away, heard the laughter and stopped.
The bodyguards outside the door were guarding Gabriel's room.
He heard Sophia's voice among them.
She was really alive!
Jake's heart leaped with joy.
He wanted to see Sophia with his own eyes, but his feet felt like too heavy to move.
He stood there for a long time.
The door to the room opened, and Sophia came out holding the three kids. Jake quickly hid to the side.
"Mommy, I think I saw Jake," Emma said, her sharp eyes spotting Jake.
Ethan also looked over curiously.
He seemed to have seen him too.
Why was Jake hiding?
Hearing Emma's words, Sophia became tense and glanced warily in Jake's direction, then quickly pulled the kids back into the room.
"Mommy, aren't we leaving?" Emma asked, puzzled.
"Mommy just remembered there's something I need to tell your daddy. We'll leave later."
Ethan noticed her panicked look.
His intuition told him that something had happened between Sophia and Jake.
Sophia used to be very happy to see Jake, but now, she seemed to be avoiding him.
Because Owen had confessed to all the crimes, Ethan didn't know that Jake was also involved, and Sophia and Gabriel hadn't told them.
In Sophia and Gabriel's minds, the kids were still just children. They didn't want them to bear too much of burdens as the adults.
After Sophia took the kids back into the room, Jake emerged from the corner, looking hurt in their direction.
He hadn't missed Sophia's guarded look towards him.
They were drifting further and further apart.
He thought in mind, 'She must hate me, right? Did I even have the face to appear in front of her? Never mind, as long as he knew she was safe.'
Jake left the VIP ward area lonely.
Gabriel saw them return and asked, puzzled, "Did you forget something?"
Sophia replied, "I thought about it and decided to stay and have dinner with you. I don't want you to be lonely."
Gabriel was deeply moved and wanted to hug Sophia and the kids.
Taking advantage of the kids not paying attention, Sophia whispered in Gabriel's ear, "Jake is here."
Gabriel's expression changed slightly.
"Don't worry, I'll handle it."
Soon, more than a dozen bodyguards were added outside the room to strengthen security.
Gabriel also checked the hospital's surveillance and found that Jake had left shortly after.
But he wasn't reassured.
"You guys shouldn't come over for the next two days. Rest at home."
"What about you..."
"I'll be fine here." Gabriel was most worried about Sophia.
Jake could find this place, which meant he hadn't given up on Sophia.
A cold glint flashed in Gabriel's eyes.
He wouldn't let what happened in Country M slide!
After dinner, Gabriel sent over twenty bodyguards to escort Sophia and the kids home.
Alex and Harrison came over after work.
Harrison handed Gabriel some documents.
"The time gap is too long; this is all we could find."
Gabriel took out a stack of photos from the file.
"These are enough."
He then put the documents back and handed them to Alex.
"Send them to Jake."
"By the way, Victor should have noticed the chip problem by now, but they're still trying to fix it, so the news hasn't leaked yet."
Gabriel nodded thoughtfully.
The three of them had a small meeting in the hospital room, then Harrison and Alex left at ten o'clock.
Sophia was also thinking about Jake.
When she woke up, Colin and Gabriel had told her that Jake had kidnapped her, but she didn't believe it.
But she couldn't explain why she felt that way.
Maybe it was a woman's intuition?
Some vague images floated in her mind, but when she tried to grasp them, they disappeared.
The next morning, Jake arrived at the office, and his assistant came in with a file.
"Mr. Hughes, this is from the Lancaster Group."
Jake paused, then sat down in his chair.
"Give it to me."
Micah respectfully handed over the file.
Jake's slender fingers tore the envelope open and took out the stack of photos.
The next moment, Micah could clearly feel the air around them turn cold.
