Chapter 162 The Results
Sophia didn't have many mutual acquaintances with Gabriel in her cell phone contacts, and Alex couldn't get through, so she had to call Harrison.
Harrison answered the phone quickly.
Harrison: "Hello."
"Gabriel's got a fever, why don't you come pick him up?" Sophia cut to the chase.
"Fever? Where are you? What's the situation now?"
Harrison's loud, tongue-tied speech gave Sophia the instant feeling that asking the man to come over wasn't going to be a good idea.
Were both of these men alcoholics, both drinking so much?
Maybe when Harrison came and she had to take care of both of them alone.
"Forget it, don't come."
Sophia hung up the phone, so angry she wanted to kick Gabriel in the ass.
Sophia did just that, kicking Gabriel's leg, which was hanging outside, back into the car before slamming the door shut with a "bang."
Harrison, hearing the phone hang up, showed a sly grin.
"Come on, sing me another song."
Harrison's speech didn't sound at all like he was drunk; he was clearly quite sober and still had the wherewithal to tease the beautiful woman beside him.
Sophia, fuming with anger, sped up the car. When she saw the traffic light turn red, she braked hard.
With a bang, the person lying in the backseat fell off the seat. Sophia glanced back coldly and ignored it.
Gabriel, in pain, woke up momentarily but soon lapsed back into a drowsy stupor.
The combination of high fever and alcohol was a double paralysis.
Normally, these drinks wouldn't be enough to get Gabriel this intoxicated. Gabriel didn't expect to develop a high fever after leaving the dinner table. He was supposed to go back to the office to pick up a document but ended up groggily getting into the staff elevator. He pressed the button for the floor, reached it, and then didn't get out, subsequently being brought down by Sophia.
At the hospital, Sophia asked a nurse to help her bring Gabriel in. She then tried calling Alex again, but still got no answer.
"Miss, I have to go back for something else, please take care of this man. I'll pay some of his medical expenses," she said generously, which was already quite magnanimous of her as she had no intention of staying to look after him.
"You can't leave yet, his test results haven't come out, and a family member needs to stay," said the nurse seriously.
"I'm not his family member."
"Then who are you?"
"I'm his ex-wife."
The nurse gave her a peculiar look. "Then you should notify his family to come over."
It was so late, and she wasn't sure if the phone number for the old house had changed or not. Well, she thought, she might as well stay for a while longer.
Sophia continued to try calling Alex, but still, no one answered.
On the other side, the doctor performed a simple examination on Gabriel and determined that he just had a cold and was drunk. It was late, so the hospital arranged for Gabriel to be admitted and receive an IV drip.
After paying the fees, Sophia stayed in the ward for a while until she saw the opportunity to slip away unnoticed by the nurses. She didn't want to spend the whole night there.
She wanted to go home to her three little babies. As for Gabriel, the doctors and nurses would take care of him.
Before driving off, Sophia kindly sent Alex a message. She had done all she could for the night.
By the time she got home, it was already 10:30 PM, and her three little babies were asleep. Sophia walked to the bed, looked at her three sweetly sleeping babies, and gently kissed their foreheads.
"Why are you working overtime so late today?" Caroline stood at the bedroom door.
"I ran into some issues." Sophia tucked them in and walked out.
"Are you hungry? I can make you some pasta."
"Okay."
The next day, Gabriel opened his eyes to an unfamiliar ceiling. He turned his head and realized he was in a hospital ward.
Memories started to flood back.
He seemed to have seen Sophia in the company elevator.
Then... did Sophia bring him to the hospital?
Gabriel's head felt dizzy and heavy, the IV needle had been removed from his hand, his body temperature had returned to normal, and his throat was very dry, his lips were chapped.
There wasn't a soul in the sickroom, that woman, she probably ran off after dumping him here.
Gabriel managed a wry smile, slowly sat up, wanting to pour himself a glass of water, only to find there was nothing on the cabinet.
Besides the headache accompanying his fever, his leg also hurt., lifting the trouser leg, he saw a small bruise, probably hit somewhere.
"Mr. Lancaster." Alex came in with breakfast.
He woke up in the middle of the night wanting to check the time, picked up his phone and saw dozens of missed calls.
He had silenced his phone during the meeting yesterday and forgot to turn it back on, then he saw Sophia's text message and hurriedly got up to go to the hospital.
The nurse gave him an earful.
"What is wrong with your family? The person is sick, and no one cares for him, the lady who brought him also snuck away, you better sign the papers quickly."
Alex signed the papers, stayed up half the night, went out to buy some breakfast when dawn broke, and found Mr. Lancaster awake upon his return.
"Let's get discharged." Gabriel drank some water, his mouth not as dry anymore.
Gabriel's expression was indifferent, he didn’t have the breakfast Alex had brought, and walked straight out of the hospital.
He thought about going back to his apartment to take a shower and change clothes, the clothes he wore now had been slept in for a night, and were very uncomfortable.
Then he remembered Tiffany was staying at the apartment.
In the end, he decided to go back to the office.
His office had a resting room with a bathroom, and spare clothes; when he was busy, he would just live in the office, hence everything was prepared.
Gabriel came out wearing a bathrobe, his phone continuously ringing on the bed.
"Gabriel, how was your night?" Harrison's flirtatious voice came through.
Gabriel sat on the edge of the bed, his head not spinning so much anymore.
"What happened last night?" he asked in a deep voice.
"You should ask yourself for that, I created the opportunity for you, Sophia called me, and I didn't dare to disturb you two."
Gabriel: ...
"She dumped me at the hospital and ran." Gabriel said somewhat sullenly.
"It seems like she really dislikes you, Lancaster. Your pursuit of Sophia is going to be a long one."
"What pursuit? Who said I want to pursue her?" Gabriel said with a dark face.
"Then why do you pay so much attention to Sophia, always helping her?"
Gabriel held his forehead: "I just realized that I had many misunderstandings about her in the past, and am just trying to make it up to her."
Harrison didn't believe it at all. In his view, Gabriel obviously liked Sophia but was unaware of his own feelings. Moreover, he kept Tiffany by his side. That Tiffany, she's not good at all, too hypocritical!
Well, if Gabriel can't see it for himself, no amount of talking will make a difference.
"If you think it is compensation, then it shall be compensation. Today you should rest well at home and not worry about work."
"I'm already at the company."
Harrison: ...
Alright, getting a workaholic to take a day off is impossible unless Sam is sick.
...
Finally, after three days, Mrs. Lancaster woke up at five o'clock. By six, she was urging Betty to go to the hospital to get the results. With no choice, Betty helplessly left for the hospital at seven in the morning.
