Chapter 368 Specially Delivered to Her
Linda's brow immediately furrowed.
"Ms. Clark, there's no need for such hostility. If you don't heed my advice, don't blame others for not warning you when you're covered in scars."
Linda was just being kind. Caroline was such a beautiful girl, and she played the violin so well. Seeing her so heartbroken just now, Linda couldn't help but offer some advice.
She didn't expect Caroline to be ungrateful.
Caroline stood up and said, "I don't need you to act morally superior and tell me what to do. Nicholas and I have nothing to do with each other anymore. I've already given up. I will never get entangled with Nicholas again in this lifetime."
"Rest assured, Nicholas is a douchebag, and he and Daisy are a perfect match. I wish them happiness!"
Caroline didn't like the Watson family, nor did she like the Wolf family. Even though she found Linda quite amiable at first glance, that feeling vanished once she knew Linda was Daisy's aunt.
Now, she felt even more disgusted.
Linda slightly tilted her head, looking at the back of Caroline's round head, her fair neck, and delicate earlobes. Somehow, this scene overlapped with the image of her daughter when she was young.
It was as if Linda saw her daughter.
"Diana." Linda reached out her hand.
"And also, please keep Daisy in check. Don't let her cause trouble. If I'm pushed to the edge, I don't mind a mutual destruction."
Caroline, with her back to Linda, said this and immediately walked away with her violin.
Linda's outstretched hand paused in mid-air. Watching Caroline's straight and stubborn back, she was inexplicably heartbroken.
Caroline seemed to be about the same age as her daughter.
Linda hoped Caroline could come to her senses and not go down the wrong path again.
In the room, Nicholas looked out the window and saw Linda and Caroline not far away. He didn't know what they talked about, but Caroline seemed very upset and walked away alone with her violin.
"Charles."
"Yes."
"Have Sharpe come in to take care of Josie."
Josie had just fallen asleep. She was frightened and cried for a while, and even in her sleep, she was restless.
After Sharpe came in, Charles wheeled Nicholas out.
The birthday party in the hall was still going on, and it was time to cut the cake. Aragorn wanted to call Nicholas over.
"Mr. Watson just went out."
Aragorn's expression turned sour.
The birthday song started, and even though Aragorn was unhappy, he had to put on a forced smile in front of so many people.
Daisy said, "Uncle Aragorn, make a wish."
Aragorn closed his eyes for a moment, blew out the candles, and then casually cut the cake a couple of times before handing it to the servants to distribute.
Everyone congratulated him.
Caroline felt that once she left the Watson Manor, the surroundings became quiet, and the wind felt very pleasant.
She was brave and wasn't afraid to walk alone at night.
She took out her phone but still couldn't get a ride.
Caroline had no choice but to keep walking.
Fortunately, she was wearing sneakers today. If she had worn high heels, her feet would have been blistered by now.
A car approached from behind, probably someone leaving the party. Caroline stepped aside, but the car stopped next to her.
The passenger window rolled down, and Charles' cold voice came through.
"Ms. Clark, it's hard to get a ride here. Let me give you a lift."
Caroline instinctively refused. "No, thank you. I'll walk back."
She didn't want to see Nicholas at all right now.
Charles glanced at the back seat and then continued, "There was a murder on the road ahead recently. Ms. Clark, you should be careful."
Caroline bit her lip. "Thank you."
The car drove away, and Caroline stopped.
She looked around at the quiet surroundings. The wind rustled the leaves, and what had felt refreshing now seemed eerie.
Caroline rubbed her arms. Still, no taxi was in sight, so she had to keep walking while checking her ride-hailing app.
She didn't know how long she had walked, but her legs were starting to ache.
Caroline reached the part of the road where Charles mentioned the murder had occurred.
It felt even more eerie here.
The silence amplified the sound of insects chirping.
Caroline swallowed and silently prayed for God's protection.
It seemed like there were footsteps.
Caroline's heart skipped a beat.
A car horn startled her.
The car reversed to her side.
Charles said, "Ms. Clark, get in. You still have two miles to go before you can get a ride."
For the sake of her safety, Caroline decisively opened the passenger door.
"Ms. Clark, please sit in the back."
Caroline had no choice but to close the passenger door and open the back door. Nicholas' expressionless yet overly handsome face came into view.
She paused for a second but got in the car.
Caroline placed the violin between them, like a barrier separating her from Nicholas.
The atmosphere was tense. Nicholas was handling work on his iPad while Caroline leaned against the car door with her eyes closed, neither of them intending to speak.
Charles drove seriously.
Tonight, Nicholas had only one plan, which was to celebrate Aragorn's birthday at home.
But Nicholas left before Aragorn cut the cake and asked Charles to pull over and pick up Caroline.
Even if Charles drove slowly, he understood.
Nicholas had come specifically to give Caroline a ride!
Soon, they reached a place where she could get a ride. Caroline took out her phone and saw that there were cars nearby, so she wanted Charles to stop.
"I'll get off here."
Charles said, "We're already here, and we happen to be heading to the city. It's on the way."
Caroline remained silent.
When they reached the city, Charles asked, "Where do you live?"
"Take me to the First Hospital."
Nicholas thought, 'She stays at the hospital every day?'
'Why should I care where she stayed? Why should I be concerned about her?'
The car suddenly felt chilly, and Caroline moved closer to the car door.
Nicholas' tense, handsome face looked even colder.
When they arrived at the hospital, Caroline went to get her violin and accidentally met Nicholas' cold, indifferent eyes. Her heart felt a sting.
"Mr. Watson, thank you for the ride. I wish you and Ms. Wolf a lifetime of happiness."
Nicholas' fingers clenched into a fist.
'Caroline wished me happy?'
'Great!'
"Hope you never regret it."
Nicholas felt resentful. Caroline didn't want him or Josie. She better not regret it for the rest of her life.
The car door closed, and Caroline turned and walked towards the hospital.
Regret? She did regret it, regretting ever meeting him and regretting ever falling in love with him.
Charles didn't dare to breathe and could only slowly start the car, wandering on the road.
Until he felt Nicholas' aura soften, he dared to ask.
"Mr. Waston, where to next?"
"Home."
At this hour, the inpatient department was very quiet. Most patients and their families were already resting. Caroline arrived at Lisa's ward and found the lights still on inside.
She pushed the door open and went in.
"Paul, what are you doing here?"
