Chapter 245 Grabbing Popcorn
Tiffany refused to take her medication and undergo tests, so the caregivers had no choice but to call Gabriel early in the morning to come over.
"How is she?"
"She won't let anyone touch her," the caregiver said with a sense of helplessness.
With no relatives in City B, Gabriel had to hire a top-notch caregiver to look after Tiffany.
Gabriel entered the hospital room and Tiffany looked up at him, her eyes red and pitiful, looking utterly distressed.
Gabriel asked sternly, "Why won't you cooperate with the doctor?"
"I'm scared."
"What's there to be scared of? You're injured. If you don't get injections or take your medicine, how will you heal? Don't you want your memory back?"
Tiffany looked even more aggrieved and reached out to grab Gabriel.
Gabriel stood still, out of her reach.
"You make me feel safe. I'm not scared when you're here."
"Go ahead and give her the injection," Gabriel told the nurse.
This time, Tiffany did not resist. She obediently let the nurse administer the injection and took her medication. She lay down.
"Can you stay with me?"
Gabriel frowned, "I have to work."
"What's work?"
Gabriel was at a loss for words.
"You have a very good friend. I'll have him come over later to keep you company. He'll answer all your questions and teach you a lot."
Tiffany perked up at his words.
Seeing that she was settled, Gabriel stepped out to call Alex.
Alex rushed to the hospital when he received the boss's call, thinking Gabriel was the one who was sick, but instead...
"Tiffany fell down the stairs and lost her memory, and now you're her best friend. Stay and keep her company, answer her questions and teach her."
Alex was at a loss for words.
Alex grimaced, "Why me? Can't you call Powell?"
Gabriel stated matter-of-factly, "You're more familiar with Tiffany's situation than Powell is. You should tell her; it might help her recover her memory."
Could he refuse?
With just one icy look from Gabriel, Alex had no choice but to reluctantly enter the hospital room.
Meanwhile, at the office, Harrison, who had been traveling since the New Year's, returned only to stumble upon some hot gossip: Tiffany had become Gabriel's secretary!
What was going on?
Upon asking around, he learned that Tiffany's studio had been shut down, and Harrison spent the entire morning catching up on the drama, before heading over to confront the man himself.
"The studio's been shuttered, man. Why didn't you help her out? You could've easily gotten her studio back with just a flick of your fingers."
Lounging on a couch and snacking on some fresh fruit from the table, Harrison couldn't believe he had missed out on so much.
Gabriel shot him a look but said nothing.
"Ah, I see now. From Doctor Tiffany to Secretary Tiffany, Gabriel, you're getting sneakier," Harrison teased, understanding the allure. He too would want to keep a girlfriend close by.
"What Secretary Tiffany?" Gabriel finally broke his silence.
After punching in a string of numbers on the office phone, it took a moment for the other side to answer.
"Mr. Lancaster."
"What position does Tiffany hold in the company?"
"She's the executive secretary."
"Why is she the secretary?"
"There wasn't a more suitable position available in other departments for Miss Foster. The executive office had some space, and well..." The caller hadn't known that Miss Foster had broken up with the boss and had thoughtfully assigned her to the executive secretary role.
Gabriel let out a sigh. Given Tiffany's current situation, she wasn't going to be at work anytime soon, so the title was just for show.
It wasn't Gabriel's fault he was just finding out. He had delegated the responsibility to Alex. Since Tiffany's employment, Gabriel had been too busy with meetings and travel, always rushing even when he was in the office. It wasn't possible for him to notice changes in the secretarial pool.
Besides, gossiping wasn't his style, so he was naturally out of the loop on office chatter.
After taking a phone call outside, Alex entered once again to tell Tiffany her story with a forced grin.
"What's the situation?" Harrison asked, feeling perplexed.
'Gabriel didn't know about this?
And Alex, what were you thinking, moving Tiffany to the secretarial department without permission!' Harrison thought.
"I broke up with Tiffany."
Harrison's eyes widened in surprise, thinking he must have heard wrong, and asked uncertainly, "Are you serious?"
Gabriel didn't want to delve into that subject any further and instead dropped another bombshell.
"Sam has been kidnapped."
"Damn!" Harrison leaped to his feet.
The fact that Gabriel could still sit there and work with focus suggested that Sam had been rescued and was safe.
"Who the heck would dare to kidnap Sam?"
"We haven't figured out who's behind it yet. They used burner phones and cash transactions."
Gabriel shared the details with Harrison, wanting to hear his thoughts on the matter.
Harrison pondered for a moment. "Could it be someone the Lancaster family has wronged?"
"I asked Grandma, and she said the Lancasters have always kept a low profile and never made such serious enemies."
"What about Sophia?"
Gabriel shook his head gently.
Harrison was stumped.
He hadn't ruled out Tiffany but felt she didn't have the means to pull off something like that. Besides, if Tiffany wanted to marry Gabriel smoothly, wouldn't she go out of her way to win Sam's favor before becoming part of a wealthy family?
The police were still investigating the kidnapping, and Gabriel's people were also looking into it discreetly.
Before Harrison had time to fully process everything, Gabriel had another piece of news.
"Tiffany lost her memory."
Harrison was speechless.
He decided that he would never go on such a long business trip again.
...
At the kindergarten, Sophia hadn't told Ethan and Emma about the near fall down the stairs the day before, but Sam had quietly let them in on it.
He hadn't forgotten about his endeavor to clear his dad's name.
"Daddy saved mommy. He only saved mommy, not Aunt Tiffany."
Emma frowned. "Why do you still call her Aunt Tiffany? She almost made mommy fall down the stairs."
Sam shrugged. "I'm used to it."
"Well, you need to start changing that now."
"What should I call her then?"
"Bad woman!"
Sam wondered, would his dad get mad if he knew he called Tiffany a bad woman?
In that case, he'd just call her Aunt Tiffany in front of his dad.
Having made up his mind, Sam agreed without hesitation.
Hey, wasn't the subject changed?
"Daddy is still a good guy," Sam tried to steer the conversation back.
Ethan asked, "Did the bad woman get hurt?"
"Yeah."
"Is it serious?"
"I don't know."
The topic had shifted again...
Josie had been lifeless for the past couple of days, slouching around and feeling particularly downcast.
During violin class, while other kids eagerly played along with the instructor, Josie sat motionless, her eyes fixed on them with longing. Miss Caroline noticed but pretended not to see.
Josie gazed at Miss Caroline with hope, yearning to learn the violin from her. She couldn't take lessons at home, so she wanted to learn at school. However, Miss Caroline had many students to teach during class and couldn't attend to everyone. Josie hung her head in disappointment.
Emma turned to her, "Aren't you the one who loves the violin the most? Why aren't you paying attention?"
