Chapter 221 It's Always the Quiet Ones You Have to Watch out for

After Christmas, Sophia returned to work.
She saw the five designers, who were forced to resign left last year, walking towards her with smiles on their faces.
"Designer Kelly, thank you so much for speaking up for us. We thought we had no hope, but unexpectedly, we received a call from the administration yesterday asking us to come back to work."
"Yes, if it weren't for you this time, we would have lost such a good job."
"We won't target you anymore in the future."
Sophia still didn't understand. Wasn't Harrison supposed to talk to Gabriel? But she hadn't spoken to Gabriel at all.
However, she wasn't foolish enough to tell them that she hadn't spoken to Gabriel on their behalf.
After exchanging pleasantries, the group returned to their positions. Designer Lee quietly leaned in towards Sophia's ear and whispered in a voice only they could hear, "Be careful with Kathy in the future. She's a bit strange, especially towards you."
"Thank you for the warning," Sophia replied.
For some reason, after the five of them returned, Sophia clearly felt that everyone's attitude towards her had changed.
Wherever she went, people greeted her warmly, shared snacks with her that they wouldn't have shared before, and even included her in gossip when they went to the restroom.
During lunch, Charlotte, who usually went to the cafeteria with Sophia and Larry, suddenly didn't join them, which struck Larry as odd.
Sophia reassured him, "It's just lunch, nothing serious. Why are you being so petty?"
Larry grunted.
"Oh, by the way, where's your luxury car?"
When it came to his prize-winning luxury car, Larry couldn't stop talking about it.
During the New Year, he drove the luxury car back to his hometown, where many people came to see it, boosting his ego.
When he drove it to a class reunion, his classmates were so envious that their eyes were bulging.
Especially those few classmates from college who hadn't gotten along with him. They were probably grinding their teeth in secret.
In the afternoon, a notice of a personnel transfer suddenly went out.
Charlotte was promoted to senior designer and was assigned the main design work for the high-end women's clothing brand, Mo.
This announcement shocked everyone. Charlotte had been with the company for many years, but she was always a bit of a background figure. She had no outstanding achievements, but she never performed poorly either.
It wasn't even time for evaluations and promotions yet, so how did she suddenly get promoted?
And she was transferred from Flora to Mo?
Mo was currently the most profitable high-end women's clothing brand under Lancaster, with a solid market presence, loyal customer base, and a focus on high prices, high quality, and high service. They mostly catered to wealthy socialites and heiresses.
Sophia squinted at the notice, then glanced thoughtfully at Charlotte, who was being complimented by everyone not far away.
After work, Sophia sought out Caroline.
"Help me make a photo."
"No problem."
Caroline took two photos and then went to find Ethan for help.
When it came to computer matters, she was only mediocre. Ethan was the most skilled person she knew when it came to electronics.
Knowing it was something his mom needed, Ethan immediately got to work.
"Godmother, we're going to attend an offline influencer meet-and-greet event tomorrow."
Caroline raised an eyebrow. "How can I help you?"
"Pretend to be our mom."
The next day, Sophia cornered Charlotte in the stairwell.
Charlotte cowered in the corner, looking helpless and fearful.
"What... what do you want?" Charlotte stammered, as if she were expecting a physical attack from Sophia.
"I haven't offended you, have I, Sophia? We have such a good relationship. Please don't do anything foolish," Charlotte pleaded nervously.
Sophia, with a fierce demeanor, seemed as though she might strike her.
"Good relationship? Yet you betrayed me?" Sophia retorted mockingly.
Remembering the incident, Charlotte averted her eyes guiltily.
"When did I betray you?" Charlotte tried to defend herself.
"Somebody captured a photo of you conspiring with Tiffany against me," Sophia said, pulling out a picture and flashing it in front of Charlotte.
Charlotte immediately recognized herself and Tiffany in the photo but couldn't make out the background clearly. Her face paled without a hint of suspicion.
Since the annual meeting, she had been on edge, unable to enjoy even Christmas.
After returning to work yesterday, she found that Sophia hadn't discovered anything, which had relieved her. The promotion had also brought her a sense of vanity, finally allowing her, who had been oppressed for so long, to stand up.
But Sophia had found out after all.
Unable to withstand Sophia's questioning and piercing gaze, Charlotte lowered her head and started to cry softly.
"I'm sorry, Sophia. I really didn't mean to."
She didn’t mean to? Did she think Sophia was dumb?
Sophia felt disappointed. She knew the workplace had no friends, but she had still considered Charlotte a friend.
She helped her at work whenever possible and had often given her advice on designs. Even if they were just ordinary colleagues without any grievances, plotting against her like this was unacceptable.
"I've been in this position for many years without any breakthroughs. I was at my wits' end. Miss Foster promised me a promotion and a raise. I couldn't resist the temptation. I'm sorry, Sophia. I feel so guilty. Can you forgive me?"
Sophia coldly smiled. She wasn't a saint. If someone plotted against her, she wouldn't forgive them in return.
Charlotte's nature was completely different from the five designers. The five of them just wanted a fair chance and didn't have ill intentions towards her. Charlotte, on the other hand, the quiet one, was the real villain.
"It's always the quiet ones you have to watch out for. You helped Tiffany frame me. Me not taking you to court is already a great show of mercy for me. Do you really expect my forgiveness?"
Charlotte grew even more pale.
Miss Foster said all Charlotte needed to do was to escort Sophia out of the banquet hall and then find an excuse to leave. It was a simple and natural thing that wouldn't arouse any suspicion.
"Miss Foster said she just wanted to take a few photos of you. Nothing will happen, and indeed, nothing has happened to you," Charlotte tried to reassure herself.
It was her first time doing something so deceitful, and she was still a bit worried. So, the next day, she deliberately called Sophia to test the waters.
Sophia chuckled in exasperation.
"If Tiffany asked you to eat shit, would you do it?"
"I..."
Smack, smack.
Sophia was done with Charlotte's excuses. She raised her hand and delivered two slaps to Charlotte’s pale face—one to the left cheek and one to the right, perfectly symmetrical.
"These two slaps are what I owe you. Be careful around me in the office from now on."
She was never one to forgive others without retribution. If she were wronged, she would repay it twofold.
Charlotte was left stunned by the slaps’ she sat there in shock.
As Sophia walked out without looking back, Charlotte began to cry in pain, hoping to evoke some sympathy from Sophia with her sounds of distress.
Sophia left without a backward glance.
