Chapter 534 Getting Beaten
Chloe's illness wasn't too bad. She got outta the hospital after a few days, but she wasn't moving as quick, and her speech was kinda slow.
Sophia rolled up to The Brown Mansion, and the servant ran off to announce her arrival.
At that moment, only Ella was home, taking care of Chloe. When she heard Sophia was at the door, her first instinct was to shut her out.
But then she thought about all the recent drama.
"Fine, let her in."
Sophia walked in with a blast of cold air, and Ella, chillin' on the couch, shivered for no reason.
"What do you want?" Ella didn't even try to fake it; they were already on bad terms.
"I'm here to ask Logan and you for the funds to rebuild Harbor Bay," Sophia said, like she owned the place, and plopped down on the couch.
"When did we ever say we'd give you money for that?" Ella's face twisted at the mention of cash. She sneered, "Aren't you Gabriel's baby mama? Go hit him up for money; he's loaded."
Sophia had seen this coming. She wasn't really there for the money.
She just didn't wanna wait for Colin's test results, so she came to snoop around.
Sophia suddenly stood up and headed upstairs.
"What do you think you're doing?" Ella shot her a fierce look.
"I've been missing my mom a lot lately, so I wanna see where she lived before she got married."
"Hold it right there!" Chloe appeared, leaning on a cane, with a servant helping her.
Sophia stopped and turned to face Chloe.
Chloe struggled to speak, "Your mom's room is long gone."
Ella chimed in, "Yeah, she got married and then died. No reason to keep her room."
"Grandma, you used to tell me how much you missed my mom and wanted me to live here. You even said Logan would send me abroad for school. How long has it been, and now you and Logan, Ella, are already turning your backs on me?"
"If my mom's room is gone, does that mean all her stuff left here has been tossed too?"
"Why would we keep that junk?" Ella snorted with disdain.
Those unlucky things had been thrown out ages ago.
"What about my mom's photos?"
"All thrown away," Ella blurted out without thinking.
Sophia's eyes narrowed. "I really wonder if my mom was even a Brown. You didn't keep a single photo of her. How much do you wanna cut ties with her?"
Ella's heart skipped a beat at Sophia's words.
"Sophia, what nonsense are you spouting? We threw away your mom's stuff so your grandma wouldn't be reminded and get sad. Her health isn't great, and she often cries when she sees those things."
"Is it because she misses her daughter, or because she's guilty and scared people will find out what you did?"
Sophia stared hard at Ella, catching the flicker of panic in her eyes.
"What misdeeds? Don't talk crap!"
Sophia stepped closer, towering over Ella, radiating a strong sense of intimidation.
"You know exactly what you've done. Sooner or later, you'll pay for it."
"You!" Ella was forced to take two steps back.
At that moment, Sophia made Ella feel scared. She raised her hand to hit Sophia, but Sophia quickly grabbed her wrist.
"Ella, if you hit me once, I'll hit you back twice."
"Bitch, let go of me!" Ella struggled, but somehow Sophia had such great strength that her hand clamped down on Ella's wrist like a vise.
The more Ella struggled, the tighter the grip.
"Let go of her!" Chloe swung her cane at Sophia.
Sophia dodged.
A piercing scream echoed through the villa.
The cane had hit Ella.
Chloe was stunned, and Ella fell to the ground. Sophia smiled.
"It wasn't me who hit her; it was Grandma Chloe. Grandma Chloe seems to be in good health and still has the strength to hit people."
"You, you... get out of here!" Chloe was furious.
Sophia knew she wouldn't find anything related to her mother at The Brown Mansion. She looked at Ella, who was writhing in pain on the ground, smirked, and then left The Brown Mansion in a good mood.
As she walked out, Sophia could still hear Ella's sharp screams.
It seemed Chloe's cane had really hurt.
Luckily, she dodged quickly and wasn't hit.
Sophia sat in her car, watching the servant come and lock the gate. She placed her hand on the steering wheel and tapped it lightly.
If the fire at Harbor Bay was really related to the Browns, their goal, besides wanting to get rid of her, was to destroy everything inside Harbor Bay.
Although Harbor Bay had fallen into the hands of outsiders, no one had ever lived there.
When the Kellys had their accident, the villa was sealed, and many items couldn't be taken out. Therefore, many of her parents' belongings were still preserved inside.
After she moved in, she hadn't had time to sort through those old items.
A fire had burned down the entire villa.
Except for that iron box, nothing survived.
'If I have been killed by those thugs at that time, would the Blackwoods never have discovered the truth?' Sophia wondered and shivered all over.
She had always thought that the Browns, at most, wanted to sell her marriage for profit, but she never imagined that they might want to take her life for profit.
Then everything was clear. Only if her mother and she had no blood relation to the Browns would they be so ruthless.
Sophia didn't return home until the evening, and her three children were a bit upset.
"Mommy promised to come back early to build a snowman with us."
Sophia hugged the three kids apologetically.
"I'm sorry, I broke my promise. You can punish me."
Ethan said, "Then I punish Mommy to sleep with us tonight."
Emma echoed, "Agreed."
Sam agreed as well.
Sophia hugged them tightly.
"Ethan, have you unlocked the iron box?"
Ethan shook his head. "It's too complicated; it needs more time."
Ethan sensed that something was off as Sophia returned.
Ethan continued, "Mommy, I'll try to unlock the iron box asap."
Sophia patted his head. "No rush, take your time."
Ethan felt that there must be something very important to Sophia inside that iron box.
There were only three days left until the new year, and every household was immersed in joy.
Caroline and Lisa took Josie to the supermarket and bought a lot of things.
This year was Josie's first time experiencing the new year with Caroline, and she was particularly excited.
In the evening, Josie called Nicholas,"Daddy, will you have dinner with us?"
