Chapter 482 Seeing the True Colors
Larry leaned in, "Sophia, you missed the Fusion Dynamics training last time. You gotta grab it this time."
Sophia nodded. "I know. What's your plan?"
Larry shook his head. "I can't compete with you guys. I'm sitting this one out."
Sophia thought for a moment. "The selection isn't about qualifications, it's about talent. You've got plenty. You should try."
Larry was a bit moved.
"Even if you don't get in, there's no harm. You can try again next time," Sophia added.
Larry finally decided. "Alright, I'll go with you."
"Great."
Even though Sophia was a Blackwood, she never used her connections to get into Fusion Dynamics. She loved design and wanted to prove herself.
While everyone was talking about Fusion Dynamics, Celeste and Jennifer were chatting too.
"I want Sophie to go straight into Fusion Dynamics," Jennifer said.
Celeste agreed, "Sophie is very talented. I saw her last competition; she was impressive."
Jennifer remembered something. "FutureTech University wants you to give a lecture. Should I decline?"
They had many invites from universities. FutureTech was the top school in City B. Celeste thought for a moment. "No need to decline. Set a time."
Fusion Dynamics needed fresh talent, and giving a lecture at FutureTech would help their reputation. Plus, the president of FutureTech was an old friend of the Blackwoods, so Celeste was happy to do it.
Patricia overheard and thought, 'If Sophia joins Fusion Dynamics, she'll see Celeste and Jennifer every day. I need to stop her.'
That day, Sophia got a message from Jennifer. She didn't expect Jennifer to make an exception for her, letting her join Fusion Dynamics without competition.
Sophia was thrilled but decided to go through the regular process to avoid future issues.
Jennifer saw her reply and called. "Sophie, I wanted to bring you into Fusion Dynamics last time, but you couldn't leave the kids. I planned for you to study domestically after moving back."
Sophia was surprised; she thought she wasn't qualified last time.
"Celeste and I value your ability, not because you're my goddaughter."
Jennifer's words touched Sophia. "Okay, thank you, Jennifer. I'll follow your arrangements."
"Good girl."
Sophia was set to study at Fusion Dynamics. She told Gabriel about it that night.
Gabriel had expected Sophia to be selected by Fusion Dynamics.
"When the results are announced, have the director arrange for someone to take over some of your work. Just focus on studying at Fusion Dynamics," Gabriel said.
"But remember to submit your designs to the company every quarter," he added.
Sophia muttered, "Damn it!"
With that, the matter was settled, and the selection process for others began three days later.
Clayton had been learning various musical instruments since elementary school, but it was always just a hobby. He never put in much effort.
Luckily, he had a natural talent, so it wasn't too hard for him.
Clayton wasn't great at academics and often slacked off, but he was passionate about music and paid close attention in every class.
In the evenings, Daniel would come home to hear him playing the guitar.
At school, Clayton ran into Caroline a few times. Remembering how her shouting had embarrassed him and got him scolded by Daniel, he didn't dare provoke her again.
"Mr. Hughes, I have another question," Clayton said, chasing after Kieran with his guitar after class.
"What is it?" Kieran stopped and patiently explained.
At that moment, Caroline walked over with her violin.
"Ms. Clark," Kieran's eyes lit up when he saw her, and he followed her with his gaze.
"Mr. Hughes, class is over?" Caroline greeted, glancing indifferently at Clayton.
"Yes, by the way, Ms. Clark, this is for you." Kieran took out a concert ticket. "I heard you like this band. My friend canceled, so I was wondering if you'd like to go together?"
Caroline was tempted; tickets for this band were hard to get, and they rarely held concerts in City B. If she missed this one, who knew when the next would be? The band members weren't young anymore; this could be their last concert.
However, Kieran's feelings were no secret. His admiration for Caroline was well-known among the teachers, and even the students often looked at them knowingly.
Caroline ultimately declined. "I have something that day and can't go, Mr. Hughes. Maybe you can ask someone else. I remember Wesley also likes this band."
"Oh, I see." Kieran lowered his hand in disappointment. "Then I'll ask Wesley."
"I have to go to class. Goodbye, Mr. Hughes."
Caroline left with her violin.
"Did you understand what I just explained?" Kieran asked Clayton.
"Yes, I understood. Goodbye, Mr. Hughes," Clayton replied, stepping aside.
Kieran walked away with his electric guitar, looking dejected.
Clayton's eyes darted around. 'So the rumors about Kieran liking Caroline are true!'
Clayton sneered. 'Caroline is really a fickle woman. She took Nicholas away and now is messing around with Kieran at school. No, I have to make Nicholas see Caroline's true colors!'
After class, Caroline returned to her office and saw a concert ticket on her desk. She thought Kieran was being persistent and had sent it over. She was about to text him when Wesley walked in.
"Ms. Clark, I remember you like this band. Let's go to the concert together," Wesley said.
Caroline pointed to the ticket on the desk. "Did you put this here?"
"Yes, Kieran said his friend canceled, and he didn't want to go anymore, so he gave me both tickets."
Wesley walked over and gently said, "Shall we go?"
Since it was with Wesley, Caroline was tempted and decided to go.
