Chapter 500 Someone Stops

Nicholas held Caroline's cold hand tightly. She was too weak to get out of bed.

"Why didn't you tell me?" Nicholas' voice was rough, like he hadn't had water in ages.

He felt hurt and sad.

Caroline hadn't told him about something so important.

Everyone else knew, and he was the last to find out.

He thought Caroline saw him as a friend now.

Turns out, he was still nothing to her.

Pain spread from Nicholas' heart to his whole body.

Caroline's eyes flickered with guilt.

She hadn't meant to keep it from Nicholas; she just thought it was her problem and didn't want to worry others. Plus, things were complicated between them.

"I'm a bit thirsty," Caroline said, dodging his question.

Nicholas, looking cold, turned his wheelchair to get her some warm water.

Caroline tried to sit up, and Nicholas helped her.

She drank half the glass.

Nicholas sighed inwardly, feeling helpless.

The doctor came to check on Caroline, and Nicholas left the room.

"The donor's name is Diana, her father is Declan, from an ordinary family," Sharpe reported. "Also, Diana was adopted by the Declan couple. Her biological parents are Daniel and Linda."

Nicholas frowned. He hadn't met Daniel's found daughter or knew much about her.

He didn't expect Caroline's bone marrow recipient to be Daniel's fake daughter.

"You stay here," Nicholas told Sharpe, then went to a quiet spot to call Daniel.

Daniel had just landed and got Nicholas' call as soon as his phone had a signal.

"Mr. Wolf, I want to know the results of your paternity test."

"Nicholas, thanks to your tip, we found out she wasn't the right person."

Daniel didn't hide anything from Nicholas since his team had first discovered the issue and informed him.

"What are you going to do next?" Nicholas asked.

Daniel replied, "I need your help. I want to keep it a secret that Diana isn't my daughter."

Nicholas waited for Daniel to explain.

"I've been investigating in City H, and all signs point to Diana being dead. If I tell Linda now, she won't handle it well. Her health has been bad for years."

Nicholas asked, "Have you looked into Diana pretending to be your daughter?"

"Diana is terminally ill. She doesn't know she's pretending, and the Declan couple is clueless too. Maybe it's all a coincidence," Daniel explained.

Before coming back, Daniel had tried to get info from the Declan couple. It seemed neither they nor Diana knew about this.

Diana genuinely believed Daniel and Linda were her real parents.

Nicholas frowned. 'Could this really be just a coincidence?'

He asked, "What about the first paternity test report?"

Daniel replied, "I checked that too. Linda was eager for the results, so Mia pushed the doctor to hurry. The doctor, under pressure, made a mistake."

Nicholas thought for a moment and then said seriously, "Mr. Wolf, I don't think these are just coincidences. There are too many gaps in the story. Someone might have planned all this."

Daniel took a deep breath. He'd been running around for days, and his mind was a mess. Everywhere he looked in City H, the answer was always the same: his daughter was dead.

It felt like he was falling into an abyss.

He had been in despair, but Nicholas gave him hope.

Yes, it was all too coincidental. Too many coincidences meant it was deliberate.

Nicholas continued, "If someone planned this, doesn't that mean your daughter might still be alive?"

A light bulb went off in Daniel's head. 'Yes, if my daughter were alive, it would make sense for someone to orchestrate all this. If she were dead, why go through all this trouble? Someone is stopping us from finding her!'

Nicholas didn't need to say more; Daniel would figure it out. The real reason for his call was to make sure Caroline's bone marrow donation wasn't part of a scheme and wouldn't put her in danger.

Blake was urgently called to City B by Nicholas and went straight to Evergreen Heights Medical Center after landing.

Nicholas had him check on Caroline.

After reviewing all the hospital reports, Blake reassured Nicholas.

"Don't worry, she didn't have any major issues after the donation. She just needs proper rest to recover. Nicholas, did you really call me all the way here for this?" Blake looked incredulous.

Nicholas said, "Since you didn't perform the surgery yourself, I was worried about potential risks to her health."

Blake teased, "I don't know whether to be happy that you trust our skills or to laugh at you for overreacting. But..."

Blake's tone changed, and he looked intrigued. "Is she special to you? Is she your sweetheart?"

Nicholas didn't answer, just gave him a look to figure it out himself.

In the evening, Lisa brought Josie to visit Caroline after school. Josie knew her mom was in the hospital because she saved someone.

She was very proud of her mom.

Ethan, Emma, and Sam also said Caroline was great.

Josie lay beside Caroline like a cute little rabbit.

Caroline patted her head.

Blake came in and saw the warm scene between Caroline and Josie, exclaiming, "Ms. Clark, is this your daughter? She's adorable."

Caroline smiled. "Thank you, she's Josie."

Josie politely said, "Hello, sir."

Blake happily greeted Josie.

When Josie saw Nicholas come in behind Blake, she got up and ran over. "Daddy."

Blake was shocked.

Having worked with Nicholas for years, he never knew Nicholas had such a cute daughter.

This made Blake even more concerned about Caroline's situation.

After leaving the ward, he handed Nicholas a business card. "This is a famous doctor I met at an international medical conference. I've heard he's very skilled. You can contact him to help your wife recover."

Blake glanced at Nicholas' leg. "You might also consider him for your leg."
