Chapter 438 A Slap

Tiffany got stopped.

The strong bodyguard blocked her way, his muscular arms looking like they might burst through his sleeves.

"Are you blind? Don't you know who I am?" Tiffany snapped.

The bodyguard didn't flinch.

"Only doctors and nurses are allowed in."

Tiffany fumed.

"I'm Gabriel's girlfriend. It's normal for me to see him. Are you new here? Get Dylan!"

The bodyguards exchanged looks but stayed firm. Alex had ordered strict security.

Tiffany, nearly losing it, stepped aside to make a call. Soon, Dylan showed up.

"Ms. Foster."

"Dylan, your guys are pretty gutsy. They dare to stop me!" Tiffany sneered.

Dylan chuckled awkwardly. "Ms. Foster, sorry about that. They're new and don't know you. But Alex ordered tight security. With Mr. Lancaster badly hurt, we can't take any chances."

"Is Gabriel seriously hurt?" Tiffany asked, frowning.

"Yes, he's in the ICU, and it's critical."

"Let me in. I need to see him."

Dylan looked uneasy.

Tiffany puffed up, acting superior. "Anyone else might harm Gabriel, but I wouldn't."

Dylan thought for a moment. "Alright, Ms. Foster, you can go in."

He waved, and the bodyguards stepped aside, letting Tiffany through.

As she passed Dylan, she kept her haughty attitude. "Newcomers should be trained properly. Today it was me. If it were someone more important, the consequences would be severe."

Dylan replied, "Yes."

Tiffany walked in, head held high, full of pride and confidence.

A few minutes later, she stood outside the ICU, staring at Gabriel inside. Her hands were clenched tight.

Gabriel risked his life for Sophia?

Then what was she to him?

She'd been by Gabriel's side for five years, not Sophia. Why did he shift all his attention to Sophia the moment she appeared?

That night, Tiffany had eaten something bad on purpose to get food poisoning just to see if Gabriel still cared about her.

Usually, if Gabriel heard she was sick, he'd personally go to Sunset Heights to see her. But that night, he didn't show up; he just called an ambulance.

At the hospital, she had the nurse call him again, exaggerating her condition. Only then did Gabriel come.

But when he arrived, he was cold.

Gabriel said, "We've broken up. Your affairs are none of my concern. But out of humanitarian concern, I called an ambulance. You're an adult; you should know how to take care of yourself."

No matter how much she pleaded, Gabriel left heartlessly after that.

In the past, he would've stayed with her at the hospital or at least had Alex stay.

"Gabriel, what did I do wrong to make you despise me?" Tiffany murmured to herself.

Ten minutes later, Tiffany reached Ruth's ward.

This floor was quiet, with Ruth as the only patient. Ruth lay alone, eyes closed, seemingly asleep.

Tiffany pushed the door open and walked in slowly, head down.

Sophia arrived with some daily necessities for Ruth and Gabriel but was stopped by the bodyguards.

"You can't go in."

Sophia stared in shock. "Why?"

They had seen her leave last night. Why not let her in today?

Sophia frowned but didn't argue. She took out her phone and called Alex.

Early that morning, Alex had returned to the company despite not being fully recovered. News of Gabriel's severe injury had leaked, causing the Lancaster Group's stock to plummet. Shareholders were restless, and clients and suppliers were calling with concerns.

If Alex hadn't intervened, those people would have already stormed the hospital.

Reporters were speculating about Gabriel's injury and the potential crisis for the Lancaster Group.

Various media outlets were creating economic panic, casting a shadow over City B and making everyone uneasy.

When Alex heard the bodyguards wouldn't let Sophia in, he was furious. "Ms. Kelly, please wait. I'll find out what's going on."

He hung up and immediately called Dylan.

"Dylan, what's going on? Why won't you let Ms. Kelly in?"

"I didn't, Alex. Those two bodyguards are new. They probably don't recognize her."

"Get Ms. Kelly in there now. Only she and the Lancaster family are allowed in. No one else!"

"Yes."

Dylan hurried to get Sophia.

"Sorry, Ms. Kelly. They're new."

The two bodyguards exchanged glances.

"It's okay, I understand." Sophia smiled slightly at the bodyguards, showing she didn't blame them.

After she and Dylan left, one of the bodyguards sighed, "Ms. Foster, Ms. Kelly—Ms. Kelly is definitely more approachable."

"Yeah, Ms. Foster is beautiful, but she looks down on us."

Dylan escorted Sophia, who felt a bit embarrassed. "You should go back to work. I'll check on Ruth."

"Alright."

Dylan left, and Sophia headed to Ruth's ward.

She pushed the door open, her face suddenly changing as she shouted, "What are you doing!"

Tiffany was startled and quickly let go of the blanket. She turned around, her face showing a hint of guilt.

"Why didn't you knock? That's so rude."

Sophia rushed over and slapped Tiffany hard, making her stagger.

"Sophia, how dare you hit me!"

Sophia ignored her and looked worriedly at Ruth, gently shaking her. "Ruth."

Ruth groggily opened her eyes.

"What's wrong?"

Seeing Ruth was okay, Sophia sighed in relief.

She turned around, eyes coldly fixed on Tiffany, standing protectively in front of Ruth.

"Were you trying to smother Ruth with the blanket?"

"I wasn't, Sophia. Don't accuse me. I was just trying to cover her up." Tiffany had already composed herself, hiding her malicious intent. She covered her slapped cheek, looking pitiful.
