Chapter 307 Hanging by a Thread
The world seemed to suddenly quiet down, and that suffocating feeling swept over.
Caroline, tears streaming down her face, rushed Sophia into the emergency room.
Caroline was trembling violently, and Colin gently patted her shoulder.
Colin assured her, "It will be okay."
Caroline suddenly remembered something and quickly dialed Ethan's number on her phone.
Ethan, Emma, and Sam from the Lancaster family were all waiting for Caroline's call. As soon as Madam's phone rang, Ethan immediately answered.
Caroline said, "Ethan, hurry to the central hospital."
Ethan could hear the choked-up voice in Caroline's tone, his heart clenched with worry, his eyes reddening.
Ethan frantically said, "Madam, something happened to Mom."
In the hospital, Colin inquired about Sophia's recent condition with Caroline.
Caroline felt extremely guilty.
Caroline regrettably said, "I should have noticed that something was wrong with Sophia. If I had shown her more care, spent more time with her, comforted her, Sophia wouldn't have..."
Colin assured her, "It's not your fault."
Colin never expected that so much would happen to Sophia while he was away in M country.
The doctor emerged from the emergency room.
The doctor informed them, "Fortunately, she was brought in on time. Any later, and it would have been too late. Sophia has had her stomach pumped, she's still unconscious, she'll be under observation in the hospital for a few more days."
Caroline and Colin replied, "Thank you, doctor."
Caroline went to handle the payment procedures, while Colin and the nurse took Sophia to the ward.
Just as they settled in, Madam arrived with the three children.
Madam was extremely anxious, the three children rushed into the ward, seeing Mom lying pale on the bed, and Emma burst into tears.
Emma cried out, "Mom."
Ethan quietly wiped away a tear, Sam held Sophia's hand, tears streaming down his face.
Sam softly called out, "Mom."
Ethan, trying to hold back his emotions, approached.
Ethan asked, "Uncle Colin, what's wrong with my mom?"
Colin patted Ethan's head and assured him, "Don't worry, your mom is fine."
Ethan's eyes were as red as a rabbit's.
Ethan asked, "Why is she like this?"
Caroline returned, hearing Ethan asking Colin about the situation. Caroline hesitated for a second or two, then decided to tell Ethan. Otherwise, with Ethan's temperament, he wouldn't rest until he found out the whole story.
Caroline explained, "Sophia took a lot of pills."
Ethan was extremely surprised. What did it mean to take a lot of pills? Why would Mom want to take so many pills? Mom wanted to leave them forever.
Tears fell heavily, Ethan tried hard to control himself, but he couldn't. His eyes widened as tears kept flowing.
"Why did Mom leave us?" Ethan choked up, looking up at Caroline.
Caroline felt uneasy.
Colin explained, "I think Sophia's depression has relapsed."
Colin had understood everything that had happened to Sophia during this period, in order to determine if her depression had relapsed.
The results proved to be true.
At the Lancaster Group, Gabriel finished signing documents in the office and was preparing to discuss cooperation when Betty suddenly called.
Usually, when Betty called, it was either about Madam or the children. Gabriel quickly answered.
Gabriel entered the elevator.
Betty's anxious voice came through, "Young Master, Miss Kelly is in trouble."
When they reached the parking lot, Gabriel had Alex drive straight to the central hospital.
"Boss, today's negotiation is very important," Alex reminded.
"Go to the hospital first, we can reschedule the negotiation," Gabriel said decisively.
Alex had no choice but to comply.
Half an hour later, they arrived at the central hospital. Gabriel hurriedly headed to the inpatient department.
Suddenly, a figure rushed out and landed a punch on Gabriel, catching him off guard. Gabriel tasted the metallic tang of blood in his mouth.
His collar was firmly grasped.
Vincent's eyes were bloodshot, anger spewing out.
Vincent accused, "Gabriel, you have no humanity. Sophia went through so much for the three children, risking her life during childbirth, and you just took the children away without a word. Do you know that you are endangering Sophia's life!"
Gabriel stared coldly at Vincent, his extreme anger causing Vincent's face to contort slightly.
Alex quickly stepped forward to grab Vincent's hand.
Alex demanded, "Let go!"
Vincent not only refused to let go but also raised his fist to strike again. This time, Gabriel managed to dodge, and Alex quickly subdued Vincent.
Vincent struggled, roaring, "Let go of me. If anything happens to Sophia this time, I won't let you off."
Ignoring Vincent, Gabriel, expressionless, went straight into the inpatient department, heading upstairs in the elevator.
Alex released Vincent, who pushed him away and followed Gabriel, with Alex trailing behind.
Outside the ward, Gabriel was stopped.
Colin and Caroline stood at the door, blocking Gabriel's way.
"What do you want? Sophia's life is hanging by a thread, and you can't wait to come and watch the show. Gabriel, you despicable man, I tell you, you won't be able to harm Sophia!" Caroline's expression was unwavering.
Colin frowned, and remarked, "Mr. Lancaster, go back. You're not welcome here."
Gabriel clenched his fists at his side.
"I won't harm Sophia," Gabriel spoke with unwavering determination.
"Gabriel has become like this because of you," Caroline said angrily and contemptuously.
Gabriel's frown deepened, he was also very worried about Sophia's condition, but Colin and Caroline blocked the door tightly.
Gabriel muttered, "I didn't expect..."
"Of course, you didn't," Vincent said as he arrived and joined the blockade against Gabriel.
Vincent vented, "When Sophia gave birth, she could have had a smooth cesarean section, but she was made to hemorrhage heavily, her life hanging by a thread.
"She also suffered from depression, completely losing hope of living when she bled heavily. If you had thought about it, Sophia wouldn't have suffered so much."
The bloody scene from back then still vividly played in Vincent's mind. If Vincent had been a step later back then, it would have been a tragedy.
Gabriel had no words to defend himself, Vincent's words made him very uncomfortable.
Gabriel's eyes gradually reddened.
At that moment, the emergency bell rang, and everyone rushed into the ward.
Doctors and nurses also hurried over.
Madam was trembling with anxiety and begged, "Sophia's heart just stopped, doctor, you must save her!"
The nurse quickly ushered everyone out and began resuscitation in the ward.
Everyone waited anxiously outside, the children's tears had not dried, and they cried again out of worry.
Caroline didn't even have the heart to scold Gabriel now.
She just hoped that Sophia would recover.
Half an hour later, the doctor came out and sighed, "Sophia has been temporarily resuscitated, but her will to live is very weak. If we continue like this, I'm afraid..."
The words were left unsaid, but everyone understood.
"Mom, don't leave Emma," Emma cried out as she rushed into the ward, but Caroline quickly grabbed her.
The doctor said, "You can try talking to Sophia more, maybe it will awaken her will to live."
