Chapter 208 The Will
On the way to the hospital, Sophia had a lot on her mind. She hated Gabriel. Because of him, she had once been depressed to the point of suicide, and because of him, she and her three children had suffered a lot.
So, she seized any opportunity to make Gabriel suffer.
At that moment, her thoughts were pure. If something really happened between her and Gabriel, she would gather evidence and take him to court!
She was no longer the Sophia from five years ago, who loved Gabriel so much that she lost all dignity.
However, the reality now told her that nothing had happened.
While she felt relieved, she was also a bit disappointed.
On the way back, Sophia was very silent, with Caroline quietly accompanying her. When they got home, the two little ones rushed up, one on each of Sophia's legs.
"Mommy, are you hurt?"
"Mommy, are you feeling unwell anywhere?"
The two children fussed over her, warming Sophia's cold heart as she held the two soft and adorable little ones.
"Mommy is fine, mommy is good. No backache, no leg pain; I’m very healthy."
Ethan had been investigating all night, only to find out that a waiter had taken Mommy to a suite on the eighteenth floor. He checked the hotel's personnel files, but there was no information about this waiter.
When the alarm was triggered, everyone was running out, and the waiter was nowhere to be found.
There were a lot of temporary workers at the banquet last night. Gabriel ordered the hotel to keep the surveillance footage from last night, but when he checked it this morning, he found that many key frames had been damaged.
It was clear that someone had done this on purpose.
Especially the surveillance inside the banquet hall, most of it had been destroyed.
Alex suddenly remembered, "Right, I was livestreaming for Madam Lancaster last night and I saved the recording. We can check the recording for clues."
"Bring it out quickly," Harrison shouted.
He was one of the victims, and this time he must find out who was behind this and give them a taste of their own medicine. He would make sure they suffered.
Alex contacted the person responsible for filming last night and got the recording.
About ten minutes later, Gabriel pointed to one of the waiters in the video.
"He's suspicious."
This waiter lingered around Sophia and Harrison all night. When other partygoers came to take drinks from his tray, he cleverly avoided them, but he never avoided Sophia and Harrison.
The hotel staff looked at the waiter in the video and called the HR department.
"He was a temporary employee. He didn't come to get his salary this morning." The HR representative replied.
"Do you have his information?"
Temporary workers generally don't have any personnel files to archive, especially for those who only work for a few hours. They just take the money and leave after the work is done.
But for security reasons, HR did keep a copy of his ID card.
However, when they checked, they found out that the ID card was fake.
"Damn it, who the hell is he?" Harrison cursed.
If he hadn't switched rooms with Gabriel at the last minute last night, wouldn't he have ended up in the same bed with Sophia?
Sophia was his best friend's ex-wife!
Thinking of this, Harrison got goosebumps all over, feeling very grateful and thankful to Noah for asking him for help last minute. In this way, Noah was his savior.
He secretly decided to look out for Noah in the future.
After figuring out the sequence of events, Gabriel's face was colder than an Antarctic frost.
Was this aimed at him or at Sophia?
Harrison, who had originally thought he was targeted because he had offended someone, changed his mind when he found out Sophia was also targeted.
"Do you think Tiffany could have arranged this?"
If the incident had really happened, wouldn't Tiffany be the biggest beneficiary?
If it was a competitor or something, doing this wouldn't have any effect on the Lancaster Group.
Sophia's existence was like a thorn in Tiffany's side and such a cruel method could indeed remove this thorn.
Harrison was furious, "Gabriel, if it's proven that Tiffany did it, you can't cover for her!"
Gabriel just hummed in response.
He knew Tiffany was a scheming woman, but her previous little moves were insignificant, so he tolerated them. But this was too cruel; it could completely ruin a person.
If it was proven that Tiffany had orchestrated this incident from behind the scenes, he, himself, would not be able to forgive Tiffany.
For now, without evidence, he hoped it wasn't Tiffany's doing.
Gabriel closed his eyes. The image of the kind, lively, and bold girl from his memories seemed to be getting more and more blurred.
Was it the luxurious life of the past five years that had corroded her heart?
This matter would continue to be investigated, but first, they had to find that waiter, but, the chances seemed slim.
Sophia ran into Gabriel in Grandma's room in the hospital.
She pretended not to see him and continued to peel an apple for Grandma.
"Was the annual meeting successful yesterday?" Madam Lancaster asked Gabriel.
"Yes." It was better not to tell Grandma about what happened last night, so as not to worry her.
On this point, Sophia and Gabriel had a tacit understanding and presented a united front.
"I'll go find the doctor." Gabriel looked at Sophia, his mind in turmoil.
"Go ahead."
Sophia cut the apple into slices and then used a toothpick to feed them to Grandma.
Grandma took the toothpick, "I'll do it myself."
Madam Lancaster ate a slice of apple, her satisfied smile making her eyes squint.
"Sophia, Grandma won't live much longer."
"Grandma, don't say that; you..." Sophia's heart jumped.
Madam Lancaster interrupted her, "You and Gabriel won't tell me the truth, but I know my own body very well."
Sophia was very sad; she lowered her head, trying to hide her heartbroken expression.
Madam Lancaster took out a few papers from under the pillow.
"This is my will. I still have a lot of good things under my name and several houses as well, all in good locations."
She handed them to Sophia.
Sophia didn't want to take them, but Madam Lancaster stuffed them into her hand.
"Silly girl, it's normal to get old, sick, and die. I, as a dying person, have seen through it. Why can't you, the living, understand? While I can still speak clearly, I've divided my inheritance into two parts."
"One part for you, and the other part for the three children. They're still young, so it's temporarily all under your name. When they grow up, you can divide it among them."
Madam Lancaster leaned over mischievously and whispered, "I also have a 20% stake in Lancaster Group, all for you. From now on, you'll be a shareholder of the Lancaster Group. If Gabriel ever upsets you one day, you can join the other shareholders and impeach him."
Gabriel wouldn't be so easily impeached. Madam Lancaster was just teasing her.
Sophia couldn't laugh, but her tears kept falling.
She leaned on the edge of the bed.
"Grandma, why are you so good to me?"
She had absolutely no blood relation to the Lancaster family, but Madam Lancaster treated her as if she were her own granddaughter.
"Because, in my eyes, you're my granddaughter-in-law. That will never change."
Sophia cried even harder.
