Chapter 405 The Nanny

Caroline stayed in the hospital for a month and finally got the green light to go home. Sophia was swamped with work and couldn't pick her up, so she asked Vincent, who was on vacation, to do it.

Lisa had already whipped up a feast at Caroline's rented place to celebrate her discharge.

Vincent handled the paperwork and came back to wheel Caroline out.

"Vincent, why do you have so many days off lately?" Caroline asked.

Vincent had just visited her a few days ago.

He smiled, "I don't have to work right now."

Caroline raised an eyebrow. "Did you quit?"

"No," Vincent said, "I'm going abroad to study."

The hospital had already given the final notice, and he knew he had no other choice but to leave and further his studies abroad.

Caroline was even more shocked and looked up at him.

"This is a good thing, congratulations."

Vincent was an excellent doctor, and going abroad for further studies was a great opportunity for his career.

Perhaps after returning from this study trip, his position would change as well.

Caroline and Vincent chatted as they went downstairs. Just as they walked out of the inpatient department, a few men suddenly appeared and surrounded them.

Charles pushed Nicholas over.

Caroline's heart tightened, and her eyes turned cold and indifferent.

"What do you want?"

"To pick you up from the hospital," Nicholas' voice was full of authority. As soon as he finished speaking, two men grabbed Vincent, and Caroline was taken away and forcibly put into Nicholas' car.

No matter how much Caroline shouted, everything happened swiftly.

After the car left, the two men released Vincent.

Vincent stumbled and quickly took out his phone to call Sophia.

"Sophia, Caroline was taken away by someone named Nicholas."

Sophia said, "I know him, Vincent. Thank you. You can go back now."

"Okay."

After hanging up, Sophia sent a message to Caroline.

Caroline replied quickly.

Caroline: [I'm fine, so don't worry about me.]

Sophia breathed a sigh of relief.

Sophia: [Let me know if anything happens.]

Caroline: [OK.]

Caroline didn't know what Nicholas wanted to do. She was alone now, with a cast still on her leg, making it difficult to move. She couldn't afford to have a conflict with Nicholas.

She was anxious.

Nicholas wasn't in the same car as Caroline, and she couldn't get any information from the driver, so she could only wait and see for now.

However, if necessary, she would choose to call the police.

After more than forty minutes, the car finally stopped. Caroline looked outside and saw it was a villa's yard.

The car door opened, and the driver helped her out.

Once she was in the wheelchair, Caroline looked around.

"Where's Nicholas?"

She didn't see Nicholas.

The driver explained, "Mr. Watson went back to the office. He instructed that you stay here to accompany Josie."

The driver pushed Caroline into the house.

Josie was watching TV. Hearing the noise, she turned her head.

"Mommy." Josie ran over happily when she saw Caroline.

"Josie." Caroline hugged Josie.

Josie was so happy; Nicholas hadn't lied to her, and Caroline really came.

Josie clung to Caroline, turning into a little sweetheart.

Caroline stayed with Josie for lunch, and when Josie took a nap, she prepared to leave.

Lisa was still waiting for her at home.

She wanted to go back and find a way to bring Josie back from Nicholas.

She thought about taking Josie away while Nicholas wasn't there, but that wasn't a solution to the problem.

However, as soon as she opened the door, she was stopped by the bodyguards outside.

"Ms. Clark, Mr. Watson instructed that you cannot leave this villa."

Caroline's chest heaved with anger. "Are you imprisoning me?"

The bodyguard replied, "Sorry, those are Mr. Watson's orders. Please don't make it difficult for us."

Caroline slammed the door shut. 'I'm imprisoned by Nicholas! Does he still want me to be his secret mistress?' she thought.

Caroline was both angry and on the verge of tears, her nose tingling and eyes reddening, but she held back. She couldn't leave now, so she had to go back to the room and stay with Josie.

In the evening, Nicholas returned. Caroline was having dinner with Josie when Nicholas entered the dining room. Neither of them spoke.

"Daddy," Josie called out sweetly.

Nicholas asked, "Did you have a good day?"

"Yes!"

Caroline's eyelashes fluttered. This meal was a bit oppressive for Caroline, but she tried not to show it and continued to gently accompany Josie through dinner.

After Josie went to bed, Nicholas threw a contract in front of Caroline. She picked it up and glanced at it.

"A nanny? You want to hire me as Josie's nanny?" Caroline was incredulous. 'I'm Josie's mother; how could Nicholas make me her nanny!'

Nicholas took out another piece of paper and placed it on the coffee table. It was an IOU. Previously, Paul had pretended to be a philanthropist and given Caroline money. She didn't want to accept the favor for nothing, so she wrote an IOU, stating she would repay the money in installments.

Nicholas hadn't cared about the money, but he didn't expect the IOU to come in handy one day.

"You haven't paid on time for the past two months. I have reason to believe you won't be able to repay on time in the future either."

"Now you have two choices: become Josie's nanny to pay off the debt, or become a defaulter."

Becoming a defaulter would kill Caroline's chances of fighting for Josie's custody. Caroline had no choice. She clenched her fists, trembling all over.

Nicholas felt a pang of guilt, but he wanted to keep Caroline by his side, so he had to do this.

"The contract for hiring you as Josie's violin teacher is still valid." This meant Caroline could earn both nanny and teacher salaries to pay off the debt.

After a long time, Caroline's mind went blank with anger. She said hoarsely, "I can be a nanny to pay off the debt, but I won't live here."

She didn't want to see Nicholas and Daisy being affectionate every day.

"No," Nicholas refused flatly, "I've arranged for Lisa to be sent to the best nursing home in City B as a benefit for you."

"Your main task is to accompany Josie and teach her violin. We'll discuss other matters once you're healed."

Nicholas didn't give Caroline any chance to object, forcefully handing her the pen, exuding an air of authority.

Caroline closed her eyes, feeling a wave of helplessness. She had no other options. To eventually bring Josie back to her side, she could endure this!

Caroline signed the contract, which was in duplicate, and Nicholas put away the IOU.

"When you finish repaying the debt, I'll return the IOU to you."

Nicholas then turned and headed to his room, saying, "Your room is the second one on the right upstairs."

The room was already prepared with all daily necessities, including clothes suitable for Caroline.

Actually, Caroline could use the money Sophia gave her to repay the debt, but that money was from Sophia selling her house, and Caroline didn't want to use it casually.

Now that she was a nanny, she could stay with Josie all the time and prevent Daisy from abusing Josie again.

Thinking from a different perspective, Caroline didn't mind it at all.
