Chapter 186 Surveillance
Nicholas raised his hand, and his assistant immediately handed him a checkbook and a pen. Nicholas wrote a number on it, tore it off, and handed it to Daisy without uttering a word.
Daisy looked at the check, naturally understanding its meaning. She had spent a hundred thousand, and Nicholas was returning it to her doubled.
A million was indeed tempting.
However...
"You don't need to give me money, after all, I am Josie's mother. It's only right for me to take the blame and pay for her," Daisy feigned modesty. She wasn't seeking credit for the money, but to show Nicholas how good she was to Josie. She wanted Nicholas to loosen up and marry her!
She didn't want to continue living in the Roscente family in such an improper and unjust way.
Those who didn't know the truth might think she had already become Mrs. Roscente, but those who knew the truth were laughing at her shamelessness behind her back.
When Daisy refused to accept it, Nicholas simply placed the check on the table, making it clear that she had to accept it.
"Josie," Nicholas turned to his daughter Josie, who was timid. He wasn't sure who she took after.
Josie softly responded with a hum.
"Do you have something you want to tell Daddy?"
When facing his daughter, Nicholas was very patient and willing to talk more, a stark contrast to his attitude towards Daisy.
Josie thought she wouldn't have the opportunity to speak today, but was surprised when her father asked her.
However... Josie glanced at Daisy and hesitated.
Daisy was infuriated by the child's gaze. Why was she looking at her? Wasn't this clearly telling Nicholas that she was wary of her own mother?
"Step aside," Nicholas immediately understood that his daughter wanted to speak to him alone.
"Well, I'll go to the kitchen to check if dinner is ready," Daisy said, forcing a smile as she left.
"Can you tell me now?"
Josie's hands were tangled together, and it took her a long time to muster the courage to speak.
"I want to learn the violin."
This was the first time the child had asked him for something, and it touched Nicholas' heart.
He had considered hiring some art teachers to cultivate her various skills, but he wanted to respect his daughter's wishes. Therefore, he wouldn't arrange too many things for Josie until she spoke up.
"Okay."
Daddy agreed?
Josie was delighted, so she continued, "A very talented teacher has come to the kindergarten. She plays the violin very well, and I want to learn from her. The teacher also said I have talent and specially asked me to ask my parents."
After seeing his daughter's excited expression, Nicholas couldn't bear to disappoint her and turned to his assistant, "What's my schedule for tomorrow?"
"Tomorrow morning you have a meeting with several deans to discuss new drugs, and in the afternoon, you need to visit the research institute to check on the vaccine development results..."
Tomorrow's schedule was also packed, leaving virtually no spare time.
Nicholas thought for a moment. He could have Daisy go to the kindergarten, but then he remembered that Josie had specifically avoided Daisy when she made this request. After pondering, Nicholas told his assistant, "Adjust my schedule for tomorrow afternoon, I need to visit Josie's kindergarten."
"Understood," the assistant replied.
Upon hearing that her father would be going to the kindergarten tomorrow, Josie became even more excited.
Her father never went to the kindergarten, but now he was going, and he was so impressive that his visit would surely shock her classmates.
Especially Alva... She hoped it would scare him enough to stop him from bullying her.
Josie wanted to tell her father about it, but in the end, she held back. Her mother had told her that if she was too naughty, her father would dislike her.
Nicholas noticed that his daughter ate more than usual at dinner that night, and she seemed to be in a good mood.
...
As soon as school was over, Ethan and Emma got in the car with Sam and headed to the Lancaster family's old house. Upon seeing them, Madam Lancaster seemed to immediately recover from her illness. She went from being listless to being full of life, laughing heartily at the antics of the two children.
Watching from the sidelines, Sam discovered that Ethan and Emma were the best medicine for his great-grandmother.
Their arrival seemed to heal her.
Madam Lancaster tried to coax words out of Ethan and Emma, hoping to find out more about their "parents". However, every time they talked about their mother, Ethan and Emma would show proud expressions, praising how amazing their mom's designs were, and then they would change the subject.
When it came to their father, Ethan and Emma would show expressions of disdain and anger, complaining about how terrible their dad was.
The two kids were too smart. She couldn't get any information out of them. Whenever it came to a crucial point, they would start laughing and telling funny stories to entertain her.
Madam had the kitchen prepare dinner in advance, insisting that Ethan and Emma eat before leaving.
Ethan and Emma obediently ate some food, fearing that their dad might suddenly return. Around seven o'clock, their godmother came to pick them up.
After sending them off, Madam Lancaster called Simon to drive the car over and hurriedly got in.
"Quick, follow them."
Simon, who had been driving for many years, had good driving skills. He had been following them for half an hour without being detected.
It wasn't until they were close to the residential area that Ethan first noticed something was wrong.
"Godmother, someone is following us."
Ethan saw the license plate of the car following them in the rearview mirror.
It seemed to be the Lancaster family's car!
Great-grandma was following them!
Why?
"It's Great-grandma!"
Caroline frowned, "I'll lose them right away."
"Godmother, head towards Flowing Cloud Street."
That street had a lot of traffic, and the road conditions were complicated, which made it easy to lose the tailing vehicle.
Just as they were about to reach their home, Caroline took a turn and headed towards Flowing Cloud Street.
Watching from the car, Madam Lancaster muttered to herself, "Why are they going to Flowing Cloud Street? Do they live on Flowing Cloud Street?"
Most of the residents there were low-income families, so one could imagine that the living environment wouldn't be very good.
Not long after they arrived at Flowing Cloud Street, Simon lost them.
Madam Lancaster sighed, "Let's go back."
She had anticipated that this attempt might not be successful.
"You remembered that car just now, right? Keep a close eye on it in the future and find out where they live. If you can't find out, check at the kindergarten."
"Yes."
As long as they lived in B City, they would definitely be able to find them.
Once they found their address, things would be much easier.
Madam Lancaster’s face had grown pale, and she lay down as soon as she got back.
She could feel that her health was getting worse.
She had to hold on until she found out the truth and rescued the two children.
Ethan and Emma returned home nervously.
"Do you think Great-grandma is suspicious of us?" Emma asked anxiously.
Ethan thought it was very likely.
Caroline also frowned, "You two should stop going to the Lancaster family for a while."
"But Great-grandma is not well." Emma was worried about Great-grandma's health again.
If it weren't for this, they wouldn't have gone to the Lancaster family today.
Ethan pulled Emma, "We should listen to our godmother and not go for now."
They really couldn't go this time.
Emma sensed the seriousness of the situation.
