Chapter 559 Deeply Hidden
Alex heard the news and didn't even blink. He'd already chewed Dylan out for it, but he didn't think Sophia would still be hung up on it—and even think Dylan was right.
"Dylan's a straight shooter at work, no doubt. He gets his stuff done and he's reliable, just not the brightest bulb in the box. He's a bit rough around the edges and doesn't always know how to play the game, but his heart's in the right place."
Sophia rolled her eyes, thinking, 'Alex really doesn't get Dylan.'
"Alright, got it. Thanks, Alex."
Sophia hung up, already knowing what was up.
Looked like Dylan was hiding pretty well, even Alex hadn't caught on.
Around three in the afternoon, Sophia got a text from Caroline.
"Dylan's wife picks up their daughter from school every afternoon herself. After getting home, she rarely goes out in the evening. Sometimes she goes out in the morning to buy groceries, and in her free time, she plays cards. On weekends, she takes her daughter to her classes."
Sophia frowned. "Seems like she's all about her daughter."
"Yeah, she probably doesn't know Dylan's got a son with his side chick."
"Which class does her daughter go to on weekends?"
"It's at..."
Sophia jotted down the address.
After Sophia found out that Sam was secretly talking to Ethan and Emma, she talked it over with Colin. Colin figured it was best not to recreate the scene for now, to avoid bringing up bad memories for Sam and making things worse.
That weekend, Sophia took the three kids to their extracurricular classes. Sam kept up with martial arts like Ethan, and Emma stuck with her violin lessons and also played the piano.
After that, she headed to the address Caroline had given her and found the class.
Sophia got there just in time. Dylan's wife, Katherine Hall, had just checked on her two daughters' progress and was about to leave.
As she was heading downstairs, Katherine bumped into Sophia.
"Excuse me, are you Mrs. Scott?"
Sophia flashed a friendly smile.
Katherine nodded, looking puzzled, "And you are?"
"I'm Sophia."
Katherine thought the name sounded familiar but couldn't place it.
Sophia's warm smile made it hard for Katherine to stay cold, so she smiled back.
"Is there something you need from me?"
"How about a cup of coffee?"
Katherine seemed hesitant to grab coffee with Sophia, who she barely knew.
Sophia noticed and pulled out her business card, handing it over.
Seeing that Sophia was a designer from the Lancaster Group, Katherine relaxed. She vaguely remembered that at last year's annual party, Dylan had taken her and their daughter there. That day, Gabriel had danced with a female employee, and that employee was Sophia!
Since Dylan worked as the head of security at the Lancaster Group, Katherine had a good impression of the people there.
Plus, Alex was Gabriel's assistant.
Thanks to Alex's promotion, her husband Dylan now had a job and could support the family.
Thinking she had some free time, Katherine went with Sophia to a nearby coffee shop.
They sat down and each ordered a cup of coffee.
On the way, Sophia and Katherine chatted about family stuff. From their convo, Sophia could tell Katherine had no clue about Dylan's affairs, especially with those happy smiles she flashed now and then.
Sophia watched Katherine, this regular housewife, and suddenly felt a bit torn.
Katherine seemed wrapped up in her own little bubble of happiness. Did Sophia really want to burst that bubble?
'Wouldn't that be too harsh on Katherine?' Sophia thought.
But if she didn't spill the beans now, Katherine would find out eventually.
By then, Dylan's love child might be all grown up, and Katherine might not be able to handle it.
Sophia thought of Sam again and steeled herself.
'I gotta tell her the truth!' Sophia decided.
"Can I call you Katherine?" Sophia stirred her coffee, trying to get her thoughts in order.
Katherine smiled warmly, "Sure, then I'll call you Sophia."
"Katherine."
"What?"
"Do you really know Dylan?"
Katherine's eyes crinkled with a smile. "Of course. He's my husband. No one knows him better than I do. Sophia, why do you ask?"
"Nothing, it's just that I once saw Dylan shopping with another woman."
A flicker of something crossed Katherine's face, quickly masked by her usual calm. "Sophia, are you saying Dylan has a mistress?"
"Yeah."
"No way." Katherine immediately denied it, "Dylan's super responsible. We have two daughters, and even though I stay home to raise them, he always tries to spend as much time with them as possible after work. He's their hero."
Sophia frowned. It seemed Dylan had also built a perfect image at home.
The more perfect Dylan seemed, the more dangerous he was.
Sophia pulled out a stack of photos from her bag and handed them to Katherine.
Katherine took them, puzzled. When she flipped them over, her expression froze.
She looked through them one by one, still in disbelief. "These photos must be fake. They can do anything with Photoshop now, you'd never know it's not real."
Sophia replied, "You can have these photos checked by a pro to see if they're edited."
Katherine could no longer keep her cool. She stood up abruptly, glaring at Sophia.
"Miss Kelly, did you come here just to wreck my marriage?"
Sophia, expecting this, just calmly said, "I just want you to know the truth."
"I've been hurt by a man before, so I can't stand to see other women go through that."
Katherine stared at Sophia.
Inside, Katherine was freaking out. The Dylan she knew as responsible, hardworking, and honest had another woman behind her back.
She didn't know what to do, so she angrily accused Sophia, blaming her for trying to destroy her happy life.
After about twenty minutes, Katherine calmed down.
Sophia handed her a document.
"This is info about Dylan's mistress. You can take a look."
Katherine took it with trembling hands and opened it.
At first, she showed a hint of disdain, but as she read further, she got angrier, her chest heaving more and more.
Her eyes turned red, and tears started to fall uncontrollably.
"He... he even made her the owner of a beauty salon!"
Katherine thought of herself. After marrying Dylan, she had given birth to two daughters for him. For their daughters, she had quit her job, and the household expenses relied entirely on Dylan. Dylan would bring home the bacon.
She had thought that was all of Dylan's salary.
