Chapter 626 I Have Evidence
Lisa thought about the kids who didn't make it out of the fire in time, and it just crushed her.
Mia's face went pale, and she stood up straight like a board.
She wanted to take out Caroline, but no one saw that crazy wind coming, which made the fire spread like wildfire.
"You're lying! This is all lies!"
She had a great son, so there was no way she could admit to anything in front of him. Samuel would get dragged into it for sure.
"What proof do you have? Without proof, it's just slander, and I can sue you for that!"
Even now, Mia wouldn't fess up.
Daniel and Nicholas had planned to get Mia to slip or get Jared to spill the beans.
But out of nowhere, Michael decided to come clean.
Still, Michael's words weren't solid enough to nail Mia.
Seeing everyone go quiet, Mia smirked, "You think you can come in here with nothing and mess with me? You guys are clueless."
"Who said there's no proof?" A strong voice cut through the silence.
"I have it!"
Paul turned to see Diana standing at the door, sunlight streaming in behind her. She didn't look weak at all.
Diana clenched her fist, knowing Paul was watching her, but she couldn't meet his eyes.
She took a deep breath and walked in.
"Diana, what are you doing here?" Mia shot her a look.
Diana shouted back, "Don't give me that look. I'm done helping you do your dirty work."
She finally found her courage.
"You're talking nonsense."
"No, I'm not! Today, I'm spilling all your dirty secrets!"
Diana pulled out a small voice recorder, hit play, and the room filled with Mia's voice.
The recording was crystal clear, with Mia detailing all her evil plans.
"Back then, I hired those guys... The human traffickers were supposed to break her legs, scar her face, and make her beg. Who knew the cops would save her before they could do it. She was really lucky. Later, I had them set a fire at the orphanage to burn her alive. But she was damn lucky to escape and grow up fine."
"I saw the birthmark on her back and knew it was her. I had someone throw acid on her to destroy that birthmark, but Daniel showed up and saved her."
"I couldn't get rid of her then, so I found a dying impostor for Daniel and Linda. When the impostor died, they'd think their daughter was dead and stop looking for her."
"I wanted them to suffer forever, never finding their real daughter!"
Everything Mia had said to Diana that day played out.
Mia, held back by Samuel, couldn't grab the voice recorder no matter how hard she tried.
"Diana, you traitor, how dare you record me, how dare you trick me!"
"Do you think I can't make your adoptive parents have an 'accident' right now?"
"How dare you threaten her!" Daniel stormed over and kicked Mia to the ground.
Mia spat out a mouthful of blood.
Linda was shaking like a leaf, couldn't believe Caroline had gone through so much and faced so many life-and-death situations.
"Mia, go to hell!" Linda charged at Mia, pinning her down and scratching and hitting her face.
Mia's screams got louder and louder. Samuel, feeling a bit sorry for her, took a step forward to intervene but stopped when Daniel shot him a cold, stern look.
Caroline's eyes welled up. Watching Linda go wild on Mia, she felt a mix of discomfort and satisfaction.
Nicholas, worried about Josie, covered her ears and held her close, shielding her from the chaos.
Caroline walked over and grabbed Linda's raised hand.
Linda's hands were covered in blood, and it was hard to tell whose it was. Her nails were broken, and her palms were cut by Mia's earrings.
Mia's face was a bloody mess too.
"Mom, stop."
Linda suddenly stopped and turned her head. "What did you call me?"
"Mom."
Tears streamed down Linda's face, and she, overwhelmed with emotion, tried to hug Caroline but fainted.
"Mom!" Diana and Caroline shouted together as Linda collapsed into Caroline's arms.
Daniel quickly stepped forward, scooped Linda up, and rushed to the hospital.
It was chaos all over again.
At the hospital, the doctor checked Linda out.
"She's not in bad shape, just really worked up. She needs to rest for a couple of days."
"Thank you, doctor."
After the doctor left, Daniel came back.
Linda's hand was bandaged, and Caroline sat by the bed, looking at Linda's pale, sleeping face, her head down.
Daniel placed a hand on Caroline's shoulder.
"It's all our fault. If we had figured out Mia's true nature earlier, you wouldn't be going through this."
"Maybe you wouldn't have been kidnapped," Daniel added.
Caroline shook her head. "It's Mia's fault. She hid her true self too well."
Diana walked in, head down.
She couldn't look at Daniel, let alone Caroline.
"How's mom?" she asked weakly.
Diana's courage to expose Mia had vanished like a popped balloon.
In front of Daniel and Caroline, she felt really guilty.
Daniel, expressionless, said coldly, "She's fine."
Diana sniffled, facing Caroline, and then said apologetically, "Caroline, I'm sorry, I was wrong. I shouldn't have helped Mia just because she threatened me."
"Mia set the whole thing up with those guys. She had me lead you to that road so they could mess you up."
"But her plan failed, and you escaped from those thugs. In the end, she had me slander you for not saving me, trying to drive a wedge between you and mom."
Caroline's eyes were sharp. No wonder she felt something was off about that incident. Later, she suspected it, but at the time, she suspected Diana.
"Besides that, she had me badmouth you to mom, which is why mom later turned against you."
Diana hung her head, her hands trembling.
She was scared to say those things at first, but she knew it would come out eventually.
And she didn't want to carry the guilt anymore.
"Dad, the last time you were in danger in City H, it was me. I revealed your schedule to Mia."
Daniel clenched his hand.
He knew it; someone must have leaked his schedule.
