Chapter 703 Ask Him Out
Caroline, Nicholas, and Linda accompanied Lisa to City H.
As soon as they stepped into the place, Linda was overwhelmed with sadness. She always thought about how much Caroline had suffered at such a young age.
They accompanied Lisa to Hope Orphanage.
Hope Orphanage had been rebuilt for many years after the fire, and it had already changed directors twice.
Lisa loved the children, and they spent the whole day playing with the orphans at the orphanage.
The next day, they went to the cemetery to pay their respects to the children who had died in the fire.
These children were innocent victims. If it weren't for the fire, they might have been adopted by normal families and had a bright future.
Thinking of this, their hatred for Mia deepened.
On the third day, they went to visit Saskia. Sometimes Saskia recognized Caroline, and sometimes she didn't. She became more and more confused.
After that, they wandered around City H, and Lisa seemed much happier, her spirits visibly lifted.
It was inconvenient to bring Josie on this trip, so Josie stayed with Emma.
The financial issues of the Lancaster Group had been resolved. Gabriel personally held a press conference, and the stock price stabilized quickly.
In the president's office of the Micro Circuit Group building, a computer was playing Gabriel's press conference. Jake rested his chin on his hand, a dark glint in his eyes.
He hadn't expected Gabriel to resolve the crisis.
Was it Oliver?
Even if they had the money to cover it, losing the project was still a significant blow to the Lancaster Group.
Without a better project, the Lancaster Group would stagnate, moving further away from its goals.
By then, Gabriel's position in the economic rankings of Country Z would also fall.
A video call invitation popped up on the computer.
Jake's eyes flickered. After a moment, he answered the call.
A stern, rigid old man appeared on the screen. His hair was white, and his face had several wrinkles. His hands were clasped on a cane, exuding an intimidating aura that made people afraid to meet his gaze.
"Why did it take you so long to answer?" Victor said displeasedly.
"I was busy," Jake replied coldly.
Vitor said, "I've had Mr. Vitelli review the project data you sent last time. The results are promising. At this rate, we can launch the chip soon, and it will definitely cause a global sensation."
Jake remained expressionless. Victor was used to this. Since he adopted Jake, Jake had always been cold, even ruthless. Jake was like a cold-blooded snake, willing to do anything to achieve his goals, including killing.
Seeing Jake's silence, Victor's face darkened. "Don't forget your purpose for returning to the country. You and I share the same goal."
Jake's hand clenched on the table.
"I know."
"If you can't do it, let me know early so your brother can take over it."
Jake's expression sharpened, his eyes growing colder and deeper. "I can do it!"
Victor was satisfied, "Good."
Victor added, "By the way, what's going on with Sophia?"
Hearing Sophia's name, Jake tensed up.
When his mother passed away, he had nowhere to go and lived as a drifter in City B. The day he met Victor, he had been starving for three days and had almost died under Victor's car after rolling down a hill.
Victor adopted him after learning about his connection to the Lancaster family, raising him alongside three other adopted sons.
After fostering a bond among the four brothers, Victor cruelly pitted them against each other for survival and financial gain.
Jake was fortunate to succeed.
He became Victor's nominal heir.
He and Victor shared the same goal, which was to take revenge on the Lancaster family and leave them with nothing.
But he never expected that the only light in his heart, Sophia, would get involved with Gabriel and even have three children with him.
Victor had repeatedly asked him to harm Gabriel's children, but he never did.
Jake took a deep breath, not letting Victor see anything, and said coldly, "Yes, I'm interested in her."
Victor looked unsurprised.
"So, my good son isn't a heartless robot after all. You can fall in love with a woman." He seemed to be sighing, but it was actually a taunt.
Jake questioned, "Isn't it more interesting to compete with Gabriel for the same woman?"
Victor was stunned for a moment, then laughed heartily, "Indeed, I knew you wouldn't disappoint me. But don't make me wait too long. I want to see the Lancaster family fall completely!"
Jake nodded, "I know."
Victor ended the video call. Jake leaned back in his chair and slowly closed his eyes.
He seemed to be resting leisurely, but his hands on his abdomen betrayed his emotions.
His right hand's fingers tapped restlessly on the back of his left hand.
At that moment, his phone beeped. Jake's eyes snapped open, and he picked up his phone to see a message from Sophia.
His unease instantly dissipated, and a smile appeared on his lips.
Sophia had invited him to dinner.
Jake immediately agreed.
Before the end of the workday, Jake went home, took a shower, and stood in his walk-in closet, looking at his custom-made clothes. He took a long time to choose a suit.
Jake dressed as if he were going to a grand event.
On his way to the date, he stopped by a flower shop and bought a bouquet of bright pink roses.
When he arrived, Sophia was already seated.
Jake walked over with a smile, holding the flowers. As soon as he entered, he became the center of attention in the restaurant, with his handsome appearance, radiant smile, and the large bouquet of flowers in his arms. Everything looked pleasing.
"Sophie, have you been waiting long?" Jake said apologetically.
Sophia replied, "I just got here."
Jake handed her the flowers.
Sophia didn't take them but said, "You don't have to bring me flowers every time we meet."
Jake's smile froze, and the excitement in his voice disappeared.
Jake said, "I just thought the flowers looked beautiful and wanted to give them to you."
Sophia gestured, "Just put them down. Let's eat first."
"Okay." Jake placed the flowers on an empty chair, and they ordered their meal.
Jake kept observing Sophia's expression. He felt that Sophia had something to tell him tonight, and it wasn't good news.
He feared something was wrong.
During the meal, Sophia didn't say a word, and Jake, usually good at making conversation, remained silent.
The atmosphere between Sophia and Jake was very strange.
