Chapter 521 Is It Really True?

"Figures it was your plan all along," Ruth said, her eyes lighting up with sudden realization.

The Browns trio stiffened up instantly.

Ruth had to go, and fast.

Logan stepped forward, trying to play it cool. "Mrs. Ruth Lancaster, how’ve you been?"

Ruth shot back, "Don't even try to sweet-talk me. I can't stand any of you Browns."

Logan felt the sting and just stood there, looking like a deer in headlights.

"Do you have some kind of misunderstanding about us?"

"Misunderstanding? You call what happened back then a misunderstanding?" Ruth scoffed. "If I hadn't whisked Sophie away, she would've been married off to some creepy old dude, and her life would've been toast. How dare you call that a misunderstanding?"

Logan's eyes narrowed, and his fists clenched, itching to shut Ruth up.

Sophia sensed the tension and quickly moved to Ruth's side.

"Ruth, what are you talking about?" Celeste asked, confused, looking at Ruth.

"Misunderstanding, Mrs. Ruth Lancaster misunderstood us," Logan quickly chimed in, shooting a look at Patricia, giving her a silent cue.

Patricia got the hint, stood up, and clung to Celeste's arm. "Grandma, can you forgive me? I swear I won't lie to you again."

Celeste, mentally drained, got distracted by Patricia and let it slide.

But David wasn't buying it.

"If there's a misunderstanding, then clear it up so both families can chill."

When David spoke, his presence was so intense it made everyone feel small.

His sharp eyes stayed locked on the Browns. Throughout this mess, the Browns had shown a hint of guilt.

Ruth was more than ready to spill the tea on the Browns' dirty deeds in front of the Blackwoods.

"There is no misunderstanding. The Lancaster family and the Kelly family had a marriage pact from way back. When the Kelly family hit hard times, the Browns, to save their own skins, tried to force Sophie to marry some old creep."

"You even had the nerve to plan for Sophie to get violated by that old man and then have Patricia take her place in the marriage with the Lancaster family."

"If I hadn't swooped in to save Sophie, my dear Sophia would've been ruined by the Browns."

Talking about it made Ruth shake with anger.

Sophia quickly tried to calm Ruth down. "Grandma, don't get worked up. Take care of yourself."

Ruth held Sophia's hand, her eyes red with worry.

After hearing Ruth's words, Celeste was stunned. She might have been old, but she wasn't that out of it.

She looked at Patricia with a complicated expression.

"Didn't you say it was you who was supposed to marry into the Lancasters, and Sophie stole your engagement?"

Patricia's scheme was out in the open again, and she felt her cheeks burn with shame.

"I... they're lying," Patricia weakly protested.

Celeste was beyond disappointed and pushed Patricia's hand away.

David looked stern. "You Browns are truly shameless."

Logan tried to explain, "It's not like that, Mr. Blackwood."

Ruth snapped, "Patricia, you still dare to say Sophie stole your engagement? Do you have any dignity?"

Sophia couldn't believe Patricia would slander her like that in front of Celeste.

"Celeste, I've seen the character of your Blackwoods. Is someone as shameless and malicious as Patricia really your biological granddaughter?"

Ruth's words hit like a ton of bricks, sending the Browns into a frenzy.

Chloe shot up, fuming, and stormed over. "Ruth Lancaster, what kind of crap are you spewing!"

Sophia and Betty jumped at Chloe's outburst. Betty nudged Ruth aside, while Sophia stepped in front of Chloe.

Chloe was old too, and Sophia didn't want to hurt her or get tangled up with the Browns.

But Chloe went berserk, looking like she was ready to rip Ruth's mouth off.

In the tussle, Chloe pinched Sophia a few times.

Sophia, pissed off, pinched back.

Chloe yelped in pain and plopped down on the ground, wailing.

Ruth looked at her with disgust. "An old hag with no shame. It's a good thing Sophie got away from you all."

Suddenly, Chloe's face twisted, and she collapsed.

"Grandma!" Patricia screamed.

"Mom!" Logan and Ella rushed over too.

The chaos hit pause with Chloe fainting.

David took Celeste back home. She was all frazzled and needed to lie down with David's help.

"Mom, just rest up. Don't worry about anything else; I'll handle it."

Celeste nodded and closed her eyes.

She was truly worn out and too old to deal with all this drama.

As she drifted off, Ruth's words echoed in her mind: Was Patricia really her biological granddaughter?

Jennifer headed to Fusion Dynamics Corporation. After Colin took Sophia and Ruth back, he returned home.

David handed Colin two strands of hair in clear bags.

"Take these to two labs for a paternity test."

"What's this?" Colin's heart skipped a beat.

"Everyone today was acting too weird. Ruth's words seemed to freak them out."

So, during the chaos, David had yanked two hairs from Patricia's head.

With another paternity test, the truth that had been bugging him would come out.

"Alright, I'll get on it right away."

David added, "The timing doesn't matter, but make sure it's accurate."

"Got it."

"Be careful and keep it on the down-low."

"Understood."

Sophia vividly recounted the scene of making Patricia look bad to Caroline.

Caroline was in awe. "Ruth is my forever idol!"

"After all this, I bet the Blackwoods will start doubting Patricia's true identity," Sophia said, still worried the Blackwoods might get duped.

Caroline's tone suddenly got serious, "Sophie, if Patricia really isn't a Blackwood, could it be you?"

Sophia's expression shifted. She had thought about it, but she knew nothing about how the Blackwoods found their relatives.

Sophia thought, 'What if I ain't either? Wouldn't that be wishful thinking?'

Plus, her mom used to say her grandma didn't like her because she messed up, but her late grandpa loved her a lot.

Thinking about all this made Sophia even more confused.

"Right now, the main thing is to expose Patricia's true colors."

Caroline agreed, "Yeah, be careful. I have a feeling the Browns are definitely up to something."

"Okay."

Sophia hung up and then stared off into space, lost in thought.

She went over everything from the start: the Browns changing the tombstone, the sudden rise of the Brown family company, the Browns wanting to send her abroad, the Brown family...

Sophia's eyes suddenly narrowed.

'Could my kidnapping during the Harbor Bay fire be related to the Browns?' Sophia wondered.
