Chapter 591 Not That Concerned

Daniel couldn't give a damn about Diana right now; all he cared about was finding his daughter and making sure she was still breathing.

Linda was fuming, clearly not happy.

Ever since Diana bounced back from her illness, Daniel seemed to be giving her the cold shoulder.

He wasn't as worried about her as he used to be when she was sick.

Linda thought, 'And on top of that, he's been hitting the road a lot more lately, and for longer stretches. Especially to City H.'

She had grilled his assistant and found out that Daniel had been to City H several times, but the company didn't have much going on there.

'What's in City H that's got Daniel so hooked?' Linda wondered.

Linda had a gut feeling that something was off with Daniel.

Daniel took a quick shower to shake off his fatigue and then bolted to the office.

"Mr. Wolf," the assistant walked in with a stack of papers and handed him an invite. "There's an engagement party for the heir of Radiant Star Group. You wanna go?"

"Just leave it there for now."

"Got it."

After giving the rundown, the assistant left. Daniel stared at the invite, lost in his thoughts.

Over at Michael's place, Mia was on the phone. Her face turned anxious after hearing the other side.

"You said Daniel wasn't in Municity for work?"

"He's still hunting for Diana. He probably already knows Diana's a fake but hasn't spilled the beans...yet."

Mia figured out right away that Daniel was worried Linda couldn't handle the truth, so he decided to keep it under wraps for now and keep searching on his own. Once he found the real Diana, he'd lay it all out for Linda.

"What do we do now?"

Michael's voice on the other end got heavier, "This is your mess. What do you think we should do?"

Mia gritted her teeth in frustration.

With Nicholas backing her, especially after the whole Diana mess, Caroline was under his watchful eye. One wrong move and he'd blow her cover for sure.

But if she did nothing and let Daniel keep digging, he'd eventually find out about Caroline.

Mia thought, 'What really went down back then? Why is Caroline, who was supposed to be toast, alive and kicking? And right under my nose!'

Mia had always wanted to get to the bottom of it, but to avoid tipping anyone off, she hadn't dared to make a move. Plus, during that time, with Daisy expecting, she had her hands full.

No one would have guessed that the baby didn't actually belong to the Watsons.

Mia's head was spinning with all the tangled problems.

She snapped, "All you do is stress me out. Michael, are you even a man? If you've got the guts, don't hide behind me. Go head-to-head with Daniel. Why does the Wolf Group belong to Daniel, and you have nothing? Why do I have to live under someone else's thumb? Michael, can you grow a pair?"

Michael cursed, "Fuck, crazy woman."

With that, he hung up the phone.

He had long been fed up with Mia, but they both had too much dirt on each other. Even if he wanted to ditch Mia, now wasn't the time.

He hadn't known about Diana's disappearance right away. It was during a fight with Mia that the crazy woman let it slip.

At that time, he was living the good life thanks to Daniel. To avoid pissing Daniel off and risking losing everything, he decided to help Mia cover it up.

That night, Michael didn't come home again. Mia was already used to it. Their marriage was pretty much over in all but name.

As long as she stayed the lady of the Michael household, she didn't care what Michael did.

Today was Melissa's birthday, and Caroline and Nicholas had promised to rock a duet for her.

Melissa's students had thrown together a small birthday bash for her at school.

The big classroom was buzzing, full of joy and good vibes.

Melissa was over the moon.

"Let's give it up for your seniors! They're gonna put on a show for us," Melissa announced, leading the applause.

Amidst the clapping, Caroline grabbed her violin, and Nicholas was already at the piano, with Sharpe adjusting the wheelchair to the right height.

Nicholas glanced at Caroline standing next to him. She stood tall and graceful, like a pine tree, with a calm and elegant vibe. Her smile was so bright and sunny, totally charming.

Nicholas smiled back.

Caroline looked over, and for a moment, it was like she was back in the past.

She and Nicholas were once the "it" couple in the campus music scene. Their duet at the school anniversary had even gone viral for a bit.

Their story was legendary.

It had been ages since she and Nicholas had performed together.

Caroline took a deep breath, exchanged a glance with Nicholas, and nodded.

The piano kicked off first, followed by the violin.

The music drew in passersby, and teachers and students stood outside to listen.

Daniel was among them. He peeked inside through the window and saw Caroline playing the violin. It felt like he was floating on a cloud, and his restless heart was suddenly calm.

All he could hear was the sweet sound of the violin.

"They look so perfect together."

"One's gorgeous, the other's handsome. They're a perfect match."

"I read their story on a forum once."

"What story?"

"Their love story is like something out of a novel, but the forum said they eventually broke up."

"But they're performing together now, so maybe they patched things up."

"Not sure about the details, but they look happy now."

When the piece ended, the applause was deafening. Caroline bowed with a smile.

Melissa came over and hugged Caroline.

"This is the best birthday gift I've gotten today."

"You know, for your future tours, you should think about bringing Nicholas along. His piano playing and your violin would be amazing together," Melissa whispered to Caroline.

Caroline glanced at Nicholas. She neither agreed nor disagreed.

The birthday party was kept super simple. Melissa didn't want everyone to go all out with decorations; just a cake was enough.

Everyone gathered to sing the birthday song, and Melissa cut the cake, giving the first piece to Caroline.

A student teased, "Everyone knows Ms. Allen loves Miss Clark - she's her star student!"

Melissa chimed in, "If you worked half as hard as Miss Clark, you'd be my favorite too."

Everyone laughed.

The students and teachers outside the classroom gradually left, but Daniel still stood there.

Clayton said, "Dad, let's go."

Daniel snapped out of it.

As they were leaving, he overheard Melissa talking to Caroline.

"The heir of Radiant Star Group is having an engagement party in three days and asked me to find someone to perform. I recommended you," Melissa continued, "They will pay a generous fee. I remember you need the money."

Actually, Caroline wasn't in such dire need of money now, but since Melissa thought of her, she didn't want to turn down her kindness.

"Okay."

Daniel raised an eyebrow.

He'd get to hear Caroline play the violin again.
