Chapter 666 Awakening
Clayton squeezed in between Caroline and Linda, nearly getting fried by Linda's death stare.
Clayton just shrugged it off and eagerly opened the photo album.
"Hey Caroline, check it out, these are my baby pics."
Linda snatched the album and scooted over to the other side of Caroline.
"Who cares about your baby pics?" She flipped a page. "Look, Caroline, this is you when you were little."
Linda pointed to a photo, her eyes softening. "You really didn't want to take this picture, look at that pout."
"So, your dad bribed you with a lollipop, and you finally gave in."
Once Linda started reminiscing, she couldn't stop. Even though it was just two short years before Caroline was kidnapped, she had a ton of memories with her.
As Linda talked, her eyes started to get misty.
But she held it together, not letting the tears fall.
"This one is from your first birthday, your grandpa was holding you..."
From the photos, it was clear that Caroline's first birthday was a big deal for the Wolfs, with a huge group photo. Linda pointed out everyone in the picture to Caroline, introducing them all except for Mia and Michael.
Caroline listened quietly, her eyes moving between Linda's gentle face and the photos.
This was the family she should've had.
Caroline thought, 'If I hadn't been kidnapped, would I have been the cherished young lady of a wealthy family?'
After flipping through the album for over an hour, Josie was dozing off in Daniel's arms.
Seeing that Linda wasn't stopping anytime soon, Daniel found a moment to cut in, "Caroline, are you tired?"
Linda snapped back to reality, checked the time, and saw it was already eleven o'clock. She then noticed Josie was asleep.
"Sorry, I've been rambling. Are you tired of listening?" Linda said, a bit embarrassed.
Caroline shook her head. "No, thank you for sharing so much. It helped me learn a lot about my early years."
Seeing that Caroline wasn't annoyed, Linda felt relieved.
"Then you should head upstairs and get some rest."
"Okay, good night."
Caroline took Josie from Daniel's arms and went up to her room.
That night, staying at the Wolf Mansion, she thought she might have trouble sleeping, but she ended up sleeping like a baby, no dreams or anything.
The next morning, Linda got up early to whip up a fancy breakfast for Caroline and Josie.
The table was loaded, like something out of a high-end restaurant.
Caroline was floored.
"There's so much, we can't eat all this."
Linda said, "These are all your favorites. Eat what you can, and the rest will be for your dad, Clayton, and me."
Caroline pursed her lips and said, "Honestly, I don't eat much for breakfast. You don't have to go all out like this in the future."
'In the future?' Linda thought to herself. Hearing that made her day.
Around ten o'clock, Nicholas came to pick up Caroline.
Caroline and Lisa, with Josie, said their goodbyes to the Wolfs.
Linda's eyes were misty; Caroline had only been home for a day.
After they left, Daniel tried to comfort Linda. "Don't worry, Caroline isn't going far. She'll be back."
Linda sighed. "If only we had found her sooner. And if Caroline and Nicholas get married, won't she come home even less?"
Thinking about that, Linda found it hard to accept.
Caroline had just been found, and now she was already thinking about marriage.
Unless... Linda had a sudden idea.
"Since Nicholas has already cut ties with his parents, why not have him move in with us? That way, Caroline and Josie can stay home more."
Linda thought it was a brilliant plan.
Daniel just smiled and led Linda back inside.
In the car, Nicholas glanced at Caroline and asked, "How was your night?"
Caroline thought for a moment and replied, "I slept well."
Nicholas squeezed her hand and didn't say anything more.
Two days flew by, and Aragorn was finally discharged from the hospital as he got better. The bodyguards at the Watson Manor were gone, along with all the Watsons' servants, leaving just the housekeeper, Mary.
Seeing the empty house, Aragorn felt a bit uneasy.
Since being watched by bodyguards, he'd been in a foul mood every day, feeling like he had no freedom. Nicholas hadn't actually restricted him; it was just that someone was always keeping an eye on him.
Aragorn suddenly felt a wave of panic. He realized that this time, Nicholas had truly and completely distanced himself from them.
Gummidge felt the same, her eyes quickly welling up.
Mary came over and took the luggage from Gummidge's hands.
Gummidge helped Aragorn into the house, the atmosphere heavy.
"Tomorrow, we'll go to the Wolf Mansion," Aragorn said coldly. "Prepare some gifts."
Gummidge nodded.
Nicholas had already heard about Aragorn's discharge. Paul was lounging in his office.
"Nicholas, Uncle Aragorn is probably heading to the Wolfs to get your fiancée back," Paul said, munching on an apple.
Nicholas didn't say anything, but knowing Aragorn, he was sure Aragorn would do just that.
His brows slowly furrowed.
Paul continued, "The Wolfs don't know that Aragorn once tried to kill Caroline. If they find out..."
If Daniel knew about this, he would definitely do everything to stop Caroline and Nicholas from being together.
After all, no father would want to marry his daughter into that family.
Nicholas didn't want Daniel to know, nor did he want Caroline to know.
He and Caroline had been separated for six years due to misunderstandings, and he didn't want to be apart from her again, ever.
But Caroline had the right to know.
Since Nicholas found out that Aragorn had orchestrated that home invasion, it had been eating at him.
He didn't dare tell Caroline, feeling guilty. Various emotions attacked him, causing him frequent insomnia.
Sharpe hurried in, his face lit up with joy.
"Mr. Watson, Blake just sent good news."
Nicholas looked up, waiting for Sharpe to continue.
Sharpe added, "Charles has woken up!"
Charles had been getting the best treatment in Country M, and with Nicholas and Blake's persistent efforts, Charles had finally woken up.
Nicholas said, "Arrange a plane immediately. I want to go see him."
"Okay."
After giving the instructions, Nicholas immediately picked up his phone and called Caroline to tell her the good news.
Caroline immediately said, "I want to go with you."
Although Charles had been seriously injured saving Nicholas, initially, the gun had been aimed at her. Nicholas had jumped in to save her.
Anyway, it was all to save her.
Caroline decided she should visit Charles.
Nicholas and Caroline were anxious but couldn't leave Josie behind. They couldn't take Josie with them either, so Nicholas suggested that Lisa take Josie to stay at the Wolf Mansion for a few days.
