Chapter 503 Caroline, You Were So Pitiful

Caroline used the remaining money to pay back Sophia, leaving her wallet empty again. But she felt a huge sense of relief.

Outside Diana's ward, Daniel looked serious and told Linda, "Linda, you shouldn't have done that. You used to be so smart; what happened?"

Linda was shocked. Daniel had never spoken to her like that before. She felt hurt and said, "I just wanted to show my gratitude. Declan's wife said Caroline liked my cooking, so I decided to cook for her during her recovery. I know Caroline saved our daughter, so I gave her a blank check. She needs money to support Josie."

Linda had a point; raising a child costs money.

Daniel sighed. "Given Caroline's relationship with Daisy, this might make her think we're trying to buy her off."

Linda was taken aback. She hadn't thought of that. Daisy had suggested it, saying Caroline was materialistic and would keep asking for more. Linda didn't fully believe her but thought Caroline might need the money.

"Forget it, Caroline already cashed the check. She accepted it as repayment."

Daniel felt differently about Caroline than the rest of the Wolf family. He liked her and wanted to help her more, but Linda's actions disappointed him. Looking at his phone, he wondered if the money would be enough for her.

Caroline felt happy; she now had a home in City B for herself, Josie, and Lisa. She wouldn't have to worry about a place to stay again. Her good mood helped her recover quickly.

Nicholas visited daily, sitting quietly for half an hour. Blake, on the other hand, was very talkative and kept her company when she was bored.

"Aren't you doctors busy?" Caroline asked Blake.

"Other doctors are; I'm not," Blake said proudly.

"Don't you have other patients?" Caroline found it odd that Blake visited so often and stayed for an hour each time.

"I only have you as a patient," Blake replied.

Caroline was puzzled. Blake guessed her confusion and said, "You don't know my relationship with Nicholas?"

Caroline was stunned.

Blake explained, "Nicholas brought me from Country M specifically to take care of you. He even made me leave all my experiments behind."

Caroline was speechless. She thought Blake was just a hospital doctor checking her health. She hadn't met him when she went to Country M with Nicholas, so she didn't recognize him.

Blake leaned in curiously. "Ms. Clark, what's your relationship with Nicholas?"

He hadn't gotten any info from Nicholas, so he'd been hanging around Caroline's ward, hoping to learn something. But every time he brought up Nicholas, Caroline would change the subject.

Caroline opened her mouth but didn't know how to explain. Their relationship was awkward—not quite friends, definitely not lovers, but not enemies either.

Blake watched her expression and then had a look of realization. "I get it, you two used to be lovers."

Caroline stayed silent.

"Caroline!" A sharp voice called out, and a figure rushed into the ward, throwing himself beside her bed.

Paul was crying with tears and snot all over his face. "Caroline, why are you in the hospital again? Why are you so unlucky? Caroline, you are so pitiful."

Caroline's face darkened. "You're the pitiful one."

Hearing her strong voice, Paul immediately stopped crying and looked up, not a single tear on his face. He had been faking it. "Caroline, what illness do you have?"

"I'm not sick," Caroline said, speechless.

"Then why are you here?" he asked.

Paul had rushed to the Watson Group to find Nicholas as soon as he got off the plane. When he asked about Caroline, Nicholas said she was in the hospital. Paul didn't get the details and rushed over to see her.

He was still haunted by the memory of Caroline's car accident, where she was almost in a vegetative state, and worried she might have some aftereffects.

"I donated bone marrow," Caroline said lightly. "Now I'm under post-surgery observation and recovery."

Paul exclaimed, "What! Caroline, you actually did such a thing."

Caroline remained silent.

"You are too kind, Caroline. You are the kindest girl in the world."

Caroline remained silent.

Paul pulled up a chair and sat down. "Caroline, tell me about the grievances you suffered in City B. Now that I'm back, I can help you get revenge."

Paul had taken Blake's spot, which annoyed Blake. He also pulled up a chair and sat on the other side of the bed.

Paul and Blake were now guarding Caroline on either side.

Caroline felt the pressure.

At that moment, there was a knock on the door. Caroline, feeling like she was saved, quickly asked the person to come in.

Sharpe pushed Nicholas in. Nicholas immediately saw Paul and Blake's attentive faces towards Caroline, and his aura instantly turned cold, sending chills through the ward.

Paul and Blake couldn't help but shiver.

Blake was the first to stand up. "Nicholas, you're here. I just remembered I have something to do."

He smiled awkwardly and quickly fled.

Paul turned his head. "Nicholas, didn't you say you had an important meeting?"

When he had asked Nicholas earlier if he was coming, Nicholas had said he had an important meeting and wouldn't come.

"It's canceled." Nicholas walked to Caroline's side. When he looked at her, the coldness in his eyes disappeared, replaced by tenderness.

"How are you today?" he asked.

Caroline replied, "The doctor said I'm recovering well. I should be able to go home in a couple of days to continue my recovery."

Paul watched Caroline and Nicholas, a slight smile on his lips, then gave Sharpe a look. "Nicholas, Caroline, you two chat. I have something to do outside."

With that, Paul left, and half a minute later, Sharpe also found an excuse to leave the ward.
