Chapter 367 Didn't Offend Anyone
"Aunt Linda? Are you thinking about your daughter again?" Daisy called out to her.
Linda shook off her reverie and returned to her senses.
Daisy confronted, "I have a feeling that she is still alive. As long as we persist, we will find her one day. Aunt Linda, please don't be sad anymore; it's not good for your health."
"Okay." Linda sighed inwardly.
As she got older, the longing became more frequent.
She was very scared, afraid that she didn't have much time leftand afraid that she wouldn't see her daughter again in her lifetime.
"Aunt Linda, let's go sit over there."
"Okay."
Daisy held Linda's hand, and the two looked like mother and daughter.
Caroline always felt a gaze burning and fixed on her. She wanted to open her eyes but was afraid of seeing someone she didn't want to see, which would affect her performance.
She forced herself to suppress the inner repulsion and finished playing the last piece.
Finally, she slowly opened her eyes.
Someone started clapping.
Caroline bowed and stepped back with her violin.
Celine grabbed Caroline.
"Thank you so much. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't know what to do. By the way, I haven't received the money yet. Just eat something here for now, and I'll transfer it to you after I settle the bill with Mr. Wolf."
Caroline wanted to leave immediately.
"I have to go now. Just transfer the money to me later."
"So soon? There are so many delicious foods here. At least eat something; you haven't had dinner, right?"
When they came, Caroline had told her on Facebook that she wanted to eat a lot at the party.
Caroline said, "I just remembered I have something urgent."
"Alright then, I'll treat you to a meal another day."
"Okay."
At this moment, a loud voice rang out.
"Everyone, thank you for coming to celebrate my birthday. Today, I have an important announcement to make."
Caroline looked up slightly and saw Aragorn standing on the stage.
He looked much thinner than before, appearing more capable and powerful.
Caroline had no interest in listening to the so-called important announcement; she just wanted to leave quickly.
"This is Daisy of the Wolf family, the mother of my granddaughter."
Caroline's raised foot stopped.
The crowd gasped in surprise.
Many people knew Daisy was Nicholas' fiancée, but no one knew they already had a child!
Josie's identity was only known to the Wolf family and the Watson family; others were unaware.
Usually, Daisy never took Josie out for social events. Josie's life was confined to two places: home and kindergarten. Before attending kindergarten, she could only stay at home.
This was Josie's first time facing so many people, and every pair of eyes was on her. Josie was very scared, trembling all over.
She wore a cute pink princess dress, and her hair was styled like a princess with a small crown on her head. Josie's pretty and cute face was a spitting image of Nicholas'. Her eyes, like a frightened fawn's, were wet, innocent, and pitiful.
Josie tightly held Daisy's hand, her palms sweating profusely. Daisy, suppressing her inner disgust, smiled gently.
"Josie, come here." Aragorn beckoned to Josie.
Josie stood still, not daring to move.
Daisy softly said, "Grandpa is calling you; go ahead."
Josie cautiously walked past Daisy to Aragorn. Aragorn bent down and picked her up, which scared Josie so much that her face turned pale, and she screamed.
Aragorn's face immediately darkened.
He lowered his voice and sternly scolded, "Be quiet.Behave yourself!"
Josie couldn't help but tremble violently.
Nicholas' eyes turned cold, and he signaled Charles to wheel him over.
"Give Josie to me." He extended his hand.
Aragorn was very unhappy; he wanted to hold Josie while cutting the cake to show everyone that the Watson family cherished Josie and valued her mother, Daisy.
Nicholas gave Charles a cue, and Charles immediately stepped forward and took Josie, handing her to Nicholas.
The crowd looked very confused.
Aragorn, feeling disrespected by Nicholas, was so angry that his chest hurt, and he couldn't maintain the joyful expression on his face.
The atmosphere became very awkward.
At this moment, Daisy chuckled and said, "Sorry, everyone, Josie has been very well protected. This is her first time seeing so many strangers, and she's a bit scared."
Daisy, looking like a virtuous wife and loving mother, said to Nicholas, "Nicholas, take Josie back to the room and comfort her."
Nicholas, expressionless, held Josie, feeling very distressed seeing her pale face.
Charles escortedNicholas back to the room.
"Josie, don't be afraid. I'm here," Nicholas gently comforted Josie.
"Daddy, did I do something wrong just now?"
Josie, feeling wronged and scared, started to cry.
She saw that Aragorn seemed very unhappy.
"You did nothing wrong." Nicholas touched Josie's cheek, wiping away her tears with his thumb. "If you're scared in the future, just tell me, okay?"
"Okay."
Caroline stood in the Watson family's garden, looking up at the dark sky and vaguely seeing two stars.
The wind blew against her cheeks, making her eyes uncomfortable and teary.
She didn't know why she still felt so upset.
So many years had passed, and her love for Nicholas had turned into hatred.
But why did her heart still ache when she heard Aragorn say Daisy was Josie's mother?
Caroline's heart felt like it was being torn apart and struck, making it hard for her to breathe.
Afraid of suffocating from the pain, she quickly fled.
"Ms. Clark."
A very pleasant and gentle voice called out. Caroline quickly wiped away her tears, sniffed, composed herself, and turned around, stunned.
It was a very elegant middle-aged woman wearing a red dress with a black scarf draped over her shoulders, smiling faintly.
A sense of familiarity washed over Caroline.
"May I ask who you are?" Caroline asked, puzzled.
Maybe Caroline had seen the woman before, which was why she felt familiar.
"I am Daisy's aunt." Linda revealed her identity and walked over slowly. "I have a few words to say to you."
Caroline thought, 'So, she was from the Wolf family.' Caroline's heart tightened. 'Was she here to humiliate me, too?'
"I..."
"It won't take long."
Linda seemed to sense Caroline's rejection and immediately interrupted her.
Caroline pursed her lips and sat down on a nearby chair.
Linda also sat down gracefully beside her.
"Ms. Clark, you seem like a smart person. I hope you won't do anything foolish."
Caroline said, "I don't understand what you're saying."
Linda, gentle yet with an underlying threat, said, "You and Nicholas are not suitable. If you insist on entangling with him, you will only end up hurting yourself."
"I saw you crying just now. You must be very upset, right? Ms. Clark, take my advice: You should let it go."
Caroline finally understood.
Caroline couldn't help but sneer. "Do you all enjoy maliciously speculating about others? I never get entangled with Nicholas."
Why did everyone still come to trouble her after six years?
She hadn't provoked any of them.
