Chapter 611 Is It Possible
Because Tiffany did Gabriel a solid, he always had her back.
Sophia wasn't about to let Tiffany slide; Tiffany had been gunning for her kids over and over.
Before, she couldn't nail down any proof.
This time, Tiffany used Patricia as a pawn, and still, no solid evidence.
But Sophia was hell-bent on making her pay, proof or no proof.
Gabriel was kinda floored when he heard this.
"When did I ever say I'd keep protecting her?"
Sophia's voice was dripping with anger, and Gabriel was freaking out.
Sophia sneered, "Didn't she save your life once?"
Gabriel rubbed his forehead; Sophia was really hung up on this.
He couldn't tell if he should be happy or bummed; it kinda showed Sophia still cared about him.
"Sophia, do whatever you gotta do. I won't get in your way. If you need my help, just holler."
Sophia went quiet for a few seconds.
"Can you really go after Tiffany?" There was a hint of jealousy in her voice.
But she couldn't help it.
Gabriel said, "My debt's paid. From now on, Tiffany's got nothing to do with me."
A wave of calm washed over Sophia, but her anger was still bubbling underneath.
She was really just pissed that Gabriel only remembered Tiffany's favor and forgot she had saved him too.
"Patricia, on Tiffany's side, outed Emma's identity online. I bet Tiffany put her up to it. No way Patricia could afford all those paid trolls and accounts on her own."
"I've got the dirt on Patricia too. Don't sweat it, Patricia won't get away. As for Tiffany..." Gabriel paused, thinking about his next move.
And that pause made Sophia feel uneasy.
She snapped, "Gabriel, I don't care what you think, but I know Sam's illness is tied to Tiffany. Dylan was the first to find Sam, and Dylan's side chick is tight with Tiffany."
Gabriel gripped his phone.
"Sophia," he said deeply, "trust me, I'll get to the bottom of this."
"If it really is her, I won't let her off the hook!"
His words were like daggers, sharp and deadly, especially at the end.
Sophia slowly calmed down.
Neither Sophia nor Gabriel spoke again, just listening to each other's breathing.
It wasn't until Sophia heard someone knocking on Gabriel's door that she quickly said, "I gotta go, talk later."
Sophia felt a bit frustrated and lost.
She needed to talk to someone, so she thought of Caroline.
She shot Caroline a message.
Caroline was free and jumped on a video call right away.
Sophia was bummed out.
"Caroline."
Caroline asked, "What's up?"
"I got a question for you."
"Yeah?"
"If two people saved your life, you wouldn't just repay one and ignore the other, right?"
"No way, I'd repay both." Caroline sensed something was off and asked, "What's going on with you?"
"Then why is it that Tiffany saved Gabriel, and he treats her like gold, but is so cold to me?"
The more Sophia thought about it, the more upset she got.
If she had known she'd end up like this, she wouldn't have saved Gabriel back then.
But at that time, she really, really liked Gabriel. She couldn't just leave him to die.
Caroline, after hearing her out, was puzzled too.
Both were life-saving favors; it didn't make sense to remember one and totally forget the other.
"Has Gabriel ever brought it up?"
Sophia shook her head.
"And you never told him?"
Sophia said, "No, I didn't want to use it as a bargaining chip."
Caroline asked, "Can you spill the beans on how you saved him? What went down back then?"
Sophia couldn't hold it in anymore, so she let it all out.
Back then, she was studying abroad and working part-time to get some life experience. One night after work, she was walking down a dark road and found Gabriel, all beat up and unconscious.
She rushed him to the hospital. Gabriel had a nasty head injury, which messed with his vision, and he was banged up all over.
She stayed with him at the hospital for a few days, but even though he was burning up with a fever from an infection, he wasn't getting any better. The hospital wasn't doing much, and they wouldn't give him any meds.
She got so pissed that she had a huge blowout with the doctors.
Later, because of a family emergency, she had to leave before Gabriel fully recovered.
Caroline frowned and asked, "Did he recognize you back then?"
Sophia sighed, "I don't know."
"Didn't he ask who you were?"
"He did. At the time, I thought he always had a cold face whenever he saw me, so I wanted to mess with him and didn't tell him my name. But later, when I left, I left a note for him. He should've known it was me after reading it."
Because Gabriel couldn't see clearly at the time, Sophia had teased him a lot and even flirted with him.
Caroline went quiet.
Sophia asked, looking confused, "Is there something wrong?"
Caroline said, "Is it possible he didn't recognize you as his savior?"
"No way, we grew up together." Sophia felt a bit guilty as she said this.
Their families had arranged a marriage between her and Gabriel since they were kids, but for various reasons, she and Gabriel weren't that close.
Gabriel was cold and reserved early on, while she was lively and mischievous, and Gabriel wasn't a fan of her.
Even later, when she had a crush on him, it was all one-sided. In Gabriel's mind, he probably didn't even take their engagement seriously.
Caroline suddenly got serious.
"Sophia, have you ever thought that Gabriel might have mistaken his savior?"
Sophia was stunned. After a few seconds, she said in disbelief, "You mean... Gabriel mistook Tiffany for me. That it wasn't both of us, and he only repaid her?"
Caroline said, "Exactly!"
Sophia was stunned again.
She had always thought that Tiffany saved Gabriel when he was in danger.
"But I didn't know Tiffany at that time. How could she impersonate me? Why would Gabriel believe her?"
Caroline said, "Well, you can ask Gabriel."
With Caroline's analysis and reminder, Sophia increasingly felt that something was off.
She had to get to the bottom of this!
In the afternoon, after school, a bunch of people gathered at the school gate. These folks didn't look like parents picking up their kids.
Alex hurriedly ran into the conference room.
"Mr. Lancaster!"
He whispered a few words in Gabriel's ear.
Gabriel's face went pale, and he was out of his chair and gone in a flash.
The people in the conference room were used to this. As soon as Gabriel left, they wrapped up the meeting and packed up to leave.
Ethan, Emma, and Sam came out of the school, and Desmond immediately stepped forward to protect them.
"MilkSugar is out!"
