Chapter 607 Help Me, Help You

Mia jolted awake, heart pounding like crazy. She grabbed her phone and dialed, "Jared."

"Yeah?"

A raspy voice answered, sounding like it had been dragged through gravel.

Mia had long forgotten what Jared's voice used to sound like.

"Where are you? I need to see you!"

"I can't come. Say what you gotta say over the phone."

"How do I know it's really you?"

"Believe me or don't, but in three days, I'm meeting Daniel, head of the Wolfs family."

Mia clenched her teeth. "Alright, spill it. What do you want?"

She couldn't risk it. The nightmares had her too freaked out to think straight.

"I want..." Jared paused, like he was thinking. After a few seconds, he continued, "I want half of the Wolf Group's—"

Mia cut him off.

"In your dreams!" she snapped. "Our deal ended ages ago. If you want money now, it's blackmail. I can sue you."

"I can give you a million bucks, tops. Not a cent more. Report me if you want."

Mia hung up, fuming. 'Half of the Wolf Group's money? Greedy bastard.'

She tossed her phone aside and leaned back, mulling over the past few days.

Little did she know, "Jared" had recorded the whole chat.

Nicholas and Paul played it over and over.

Paul sighed, "This voice changer Caroline found is top-notch. Sounds just like a real person!"

Nicholas stayed quiet.

"Mia's too slick. One slip-up and she'll catch on."

Paul nodded.

Nicholas said, "We know Mia hired traffickers to kidnap Caroline, but getting her to admit it? No way."

Paul frowned.

It was a tough situation. Caroline was too young to remember the abduction.

Otherwise, they might've had a lead.

Sharpe, usually calm, burst in.

"Mr. Watson, we've got a lead on Jared."

Paul asked urgently, "Where?"

"A week ago, someone spotted him in Celestria." Sharpe took a breath. "He's wanted everywhere here, so he's been hiding in neighboring countries."

Nicholas said, "Report it to the cops."

"Yes, sir!"

Mia had the money ready, but when she called Jared, the line was dead, and her texts went unanswered.

She was a wreck, mind racing. 'Did they catch Jared? Will he rat me out?'

"Auntie Mia."

A soft voice came from behind.

Mia turned to see Diana walking in.

"Auntie, please help me." Diana cried, clutching Mia's leg. "I don't want to leave the Wolfs. Don't let them send me away! Please help me."

Mia's eyes flickered. She wanted to shove Diana away.

Diana was useless now, no point in helping her.

Diana said, "If you help me stay with the Wolfs, I can still help you."

Mia hesitated for a moment.

"I even helped you cover up that ten million dollars yesterday."

Mia's eyes darted around.

'If Diana stays with the Wolfs as an adopted daughter, it could work in my favor,' Mia thought.

She could use Diana to stir up trouble between Linda and Caroline.

If the family was in chaos, they'd be too distracted to dig deeper into anything.

Having made up her mind, Mia helped Diana up.

"Don't worry, you're too sweet. I can't let you go. I'll help you."

"Thank you, Auntie," Diana sobbed.

Mia comforted her a bit, and Diana's tears eventually dried up.

"Auntie, can you tell me why you want to stop Caroline from coming back to the Wolfs?"

Suspicion flickered in Mia's eyes.

Diana quickly lowered her head and weakly said, "I just want to know so I can help you better."

"It's nothing. I just want the Wolfs to have only one female heir, my daughter Daisy."

"But now Caroline..."

Mia shot her a glare. "Even if Caroline is found, I won't let her become the Wolfs heir!"

Diana quickly nodded and asked, "How can I help you?"

Suddenly, she remembered something. "Oh, before I came back from the hospital, I overheard Dad investigating Caroline's disappearance."

Mia's face darkened.

"What did you hear?"

Diana recalled, "I just heard him telling someone to look into it."

Mia grew even more anxious.

She suddenly grabbed Diana's hand and said seriously, "I'll help you stay with the Wolfs. You keep an eye on Daniel, especially his investigation."

Diana asked, "Auntie, do you know anything about Caroline's disappearance?"

Mia snapped, "Don't ask questions you shouldn't!"

Diana shrank back in fear. "I just thought knowing more would help me figure out what Dad has found."

Mia stared at her intently.

Diana was as clueless as ever. Just hinting that she might get in trouble with her foster parents would shut her right up. Plus, she'd already helped them against Caroline once.

Diana wouldn't leave the Wolfs for Paul.

Otherwise, she was just a nobody, and Paul was way out of her league.

With this in mind, Mia decided it wouldn't hurt to tell her.

"I was the one who had Caroline abducted back then."

Diana's body trembled. Her hands, resting on her legs, clenched tightly together, her nails digging into her skin without any feeling.

As Mia spoke, she watched Diana's expression. Seeing her look of shock and fear, Mia's wariness completely faded.

After finishing, Diana took a moment to react.

"Auntie, don't worry. I'll help you. If Dad finds anything, I'll let you know right away. But you have to promise to let me stay with the Wolfs."

"Alright," Mia said, satisfied.

After Diana left, she walked a long way before her legs gave out, nearly causing her to fall.

She looked back at the grand door, behind which was a mansion as luxurious as a castle.

'But inside this fancy mansion lives not a kind wealthy woman, but a wicked witch!' Diana thought.

Diana reached into her pocket and tightly gripped a voice recorder.
