Chapter 432 Acting

Chloe's words were pretty interesting. At first, she seemed genuinely happy Sophia was okay, but then she started blaming her for being ungrateful.

Since Chloe showed up, Sophia couldn't exactly turn her away.

So, Sophia let them in and made some coffee.

Chloe and Ella looked around the house.

The house was really nice, great location and structure. Even though it was old, it still looked good.

No one thought Sophia would end up buying it back.

Chloe said, "Sophie, come sit by me."

Sophia pretended not to hear and sat across from them. Chloe's face showed a hint of displeasure.

The atmosphere got awkward. Ella rolled her eyes and laughed sharply. "Mom, Sophie’s grown up now. She’s not that little girl who liked to sit next to you anymore."

This gave Chloe an out.

"Yeah, you've grown up without me realizing it. But to me, you're still a child. It's sad watching the kids leave."

Chloe started crying, tears streaming down her wrinkled face.

Chloe's crying was touching, and Ella's eyes also reddened.

"Mom, don't think about it anymore. Susan's been gone for years."

"How can I not think about it? Susan was the most sensible, obedient, and grateful."

Watching Chloe and Ella's performance, Sophia took a slow sip of coffee before calmly saying, "If my mom was so sensible, obedient, and grateful, why weren't you nicer to her?"

Sophia's words left Chloe speechless.

Ella looked embarrassed. "Chloe didn't dislike Susan. Some things happened that caused misunderstandings. After Susan passed away, Chloe cried every day, almost going blind from crying.

"Sophie, the relationship between Susan and Chloe wasn't what you saw. Chloe actually loved Susan a lot. Now that Susan's gone, any deep misunderstandings are gone too.

"Chloe deeply regrets not resolving things with Susan while she was alive.

"Now, Chloe just wants to make it up to you, to give you the love she had for Susan."

Ella spoke earnestly for a long time. Sophia was moved but knew the Brown family too well.

So she just stayed silent, lowered her head.

Seeing Sophia's sad look, Ella knew her words had an effect.

Chloe wiped her tears and said, "Sophie, I miss Susan. I really miss her."

This almost broke Sophia's cold demeanor.

In the face of family affection, her heart softened, especially when Chloe said she missed Susan. Sophia's longing for Susan was stirred up.

"It's getting late, Sophie. Come home for dinner tomorrow," Ella said, helping Chloe up to leave.

Sophia neither agreed nor refused.

After seeing them off, Sophia returned to the house and fell into deep thought.

Her eyes were still red.

The next day, Sophia didn't plan to go to the Brown family, but they called several times, eagerly mentioning Susan.

In the end, Sophia decided to go along with their wishes and visit the Brown family.

She wanted to see what tricks the Brown family was up to this time!

Sophia drove to the Brown family and got an unusually warm welcome.

Ella and Chloe chatted a lot, had the maid make her favorite dishes, and gave her snacks, treating her like a kid.

Anyone else might have been touched by this family affection.

But Sophia had seen too much of the Brown family's antics and was thoroughly disappointed in them.

Their sudden warmth felt suspicious.

"Where's Patricia?" Sophia suddenly asked.

Ella's face showed a hint of strangeness, and Chloe quickly said, "Patricia is studying abroad."

Ella echoed, "Yes, Patricia got lucky and found a good opportunity to study abroad."

Just then, Sophia's uncle, Logan, came in.

"Sophie, finally, I get to see you again." Logan's chubby body tried to hug Sophia, but she dodged.

Logan was displeased but held it in. "Sophie, I'm sorry. I didn't protect you well, letting you suffer in the Lancaster family and go through such things."

Logan looked very remorseful.

Sophia cooperatively said, "It's not your fault."

Logan pretended to wipe a tear.

During dinner, Chloe and Ella kept serving Sophia food, and she interacted with them perfunctorily.

After dinner, Logan talked to Sophia about work for a bit, then took out some documents.

"Sophie, Patricia said there's a good fashion design school in Country Y. She knows a professor there and recommended you. Are you interested in studying abroad?"

'Since when did Patricia become so capable? Did she suddenly get lucky? Most importantly, would the Brown family be so kind?' she thought.

Before coming, Sophia had checked the Brown Group. Before this year, the Brown Group had been losing money for years, almost bankrupt.

But suddenly, the table had turned. It was like Lady Lucky smiled on them. The Brown Group's business was booming, and their stock prices were rising daily.

In just half a year, the Brown Group had made up for all its losses.

Seeing Logan's chubby figure, it was clear the Brown family's wealth was growing day by day.

Sophia pondered. 'When the Brown family is so powerful, they come to get close to me and even want to send me abroad for further studies? Why did it feel more and more suspicious?'

Sophia glanced at the documents and calmly refused. "No need. I already completed my studies in Country M during those five years. There's no need to do it again. Besides, I'm doing well at the Lancaster Group now."

Speaking of the Lancaster Group, Ella asked, "Are you back together with Gabriel?"

Sophia gave her a meaningful look. "No."

Ella secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

If Sophia and Gabriel were back together, Patricia would have no chance.

Logan added, "This is a rare opportunity, Sophie. Take it home and think about it. No need to decide now."

"No need to think about it. I don't need it," Sophia said firmly.

She didn't know what awaited her abroad.

They might be planning to marry her off to some rich old man abroad.

Sophia didn't stay long. After refusing, she found an excuse to leave.

As soon as she left, Logan's face turned cold, and he slammed the documents on the table.

"She doesn't even want the opportunity given to her!"
