Chapter 739 Shiver

Nicholas was drenched in sweat, his white shirt clinging to his lean waist. His legs were trembling like leaves, and he gripped the armrests with his hands, his sleeves rolled up, veins bulging on his arms.

"Nicholas," Caroline ran over and stopped in front of him, "Do you want to lose your legs?"

Nicholas looked up, his face a bit pale, and smiled, "Why are you here?"

"Why did you suddenly increase your training time?" Caroline asked sternly.

"Simon said I could increase it moderately, and I adjusted it based on my condition," Nicholas reassured her, "Don't worry, I'll rest when I'm tired."

"I just did a set of jump training, and I felt pretty good."

Nicholas's heart was pounding as he tried to tell Caroline about his training results, fearing she would be angry.

Caroline's face remained stern, "End your training here."

"No way," Nicholas immediately refused, "I feel great right now. Caroline, I want to push my limits."

He knew his own legs well; if he only trained for two fixed hours every day, he might never break through.

"But..." Caroline furrowed her brows, wanting to persuade him.

Nicholas interrupted her, "Caroline, trust me, I'll be careful. I want to get better quickly."

He looked into her eyes, filled with longing.

Caroline's heart softened instantly.

"I'll stay with you."

Nicholas's eyes curved into a smile, "Okay."

Training for such long hours every day was exhausting, but Nicholas could feel the results. His legs were able to stand and walk for longer periods each day, and sometimes jumping didn't hurt.

Jake's office door was kicked open.

Victor entered with his assistant and bodyguards, his face icy.

Jake sat in his chair, unfazed, as if he had expected Victor to come to the Country M to find him.

"This is the problematic chip I brought. Now, immediately, you solve the problem for me!" Victor demanded, placing the chip on Jake's desk with a threatening tone.

Jake glanced at it indifferently.

"I told you, I can't solve it."

"What about those skilled employees of yours?"

"They can't solve it either."

Victor slammed his hand on the desk, his palm turning red instantly.

"Are you looking for trouble?"

Jake smiled innocently, "Yes."

He admitted it just like that.

Victor was momentarily stunned, his eyes darkening.

"Don't forget, I gave you everything."

"I haven't forgotten. It was you, Father, who raised me, gave me all the wealth and glory, and made me your sharp blade."

Over the years, Jake had helped Victor eliminate countless obstacles, contributing significantly to the Phoenix Group's growth. They had shared a common goal: to deal with the Lancaster family and annex the Lancaster Group.

He had willingly become Victor's blade.

"Too bad you didn't maintain it well; this blade has rusted."

Victor shouldn't have thrown Sophia into the sea.

Luckily, the Blackwood family saved her.

Jake thought in mind, 'What if they hadn't saved Sophia? Sophia, unconscious and alone in the sea, how lonely and cold she must have been.'

Jake had already questioned the people responsible for watching Sophia that day. It was Victor who ordered them to throw Sophia into the sea.

Victor furiously glared at Jake and was about to say something when his phone rang.

Victor answered, and the next moment, his face showed an incredulous expression. He hung up in anger.

"Alaric stole from my safe when I was absent. My men have already caught him."

His words were full of probing.

Jake responded indifferently, "Oh."

"He had no reason to steal from me. You must have instigated him," Victor's suspicion grew stronger.

Jake replied, "Why don't you ask him?"

Victor's fists clenched tightly.

He wanted to beat Jake up, but there were more important matters to be handled now.

"Watch yourself! I'll leave the chip here. You have three days to come up with a solution, or others will take the position of CEO of Micro Circuit Group."

"And don't ever think about returning to the Country M. And your good buddy Owen, who went to prison in your place, if you don't want him to suffer in prison, you'd better behave."

Victor left his threat and hurriedly departed.

Jake picked up the lighter on his desk, flicked it a couple of times, then took out a pack of cigarettes from the drawer and lit one.

He used to smoke, but he quit after meeting Sophia. Recently, he started smoking again.

After a while, Alaric called.

"I've got the stuff. What next?"

Jake replied, "Such important evidence should be handed over to the local government."

He spoke casually, as if discussing what to eat today.

Alaric hesitated, "Are you sure?"

"If you don't want revenge, you can keep it, ask Victor for some money, and disappear."

Alaric immediately resolved, "I'll deliver it now."

Alaric, also Victor's adopted son, had once been deeply grateful to Victor, the most filial son. But after Jake revealed the truth about Alaric's parents' deaths, Alaric became the sharpest blade against Victor.

After hanging up, Jake finished his cigarette, stubbed it out in the ashtray, and lit another.

As he smoked, Jake gave a faint smile.

He was a bit mad and lonely.

"Gabriel, we have evidence that the Phoenix Group stole our research data," Harrison's excited voice came through, "And there's more good news. Victor's son reported his crimes. Victor flew in from the Country M and was detained as soon as he landed."

Gabriel's hand paused on a document, his fingers stopping their tapping.

He was quickly thinking and, and understood the situation.

"Spread the news and submit the evidence."

Someone had betrayed Victor, which was perfect; Gabriel didn't have to act personally.

But it was still necessary to cause trouble.

He had also uncovered Victor's illegal industries in another country.

Victor's sons even didn't know about these industries.

Victor was confident because he owned these. Even though detained by Country M police, he wasn't worried. In a few days, the police would respectfully send him home.

The evidence Alaric stole was just superficial. Victor had already had the documents hidden elsewhere destroyed before returning.

Plus, he had another illegal industry to support him.

Victor saw Alaric outside the police station.

The tall, burly Alaric shivered involuntarily when he met Victor's smiling eyes.
