Chapter 736 As Expected
If Victor couldn't come up with a perfect explanation and solution, it would be a huge blow to the Phoenix Group!
The more glorious the Phoenix Group was before, the more difficult the problems Victor now faced.
And at this moment, Jake's phone couldn't be reached.
Victor, in a fit of rage, threw the phone receiver, his chest heaving.
After a while, he picked up his cell phone and called Micah.
Soon, Micah knocked on Jake's office door, but there was no response from inside.
He remembered that today was Sophia's engagement day, could it be that Jake...
Micah hurriedly pushed the door open and went in.
It was a mess, and the air was filled with the smell of alcohol. Jake was sitting on the floor, leaning against the desk, with his eyes closed.
Micah cautiously walked over, extended a finger to check, and felt relieved when he sensed that Jake was still breathing.
Jake suddenly opened his eyes, and Micah took a step back in fright.
Jake was totally drunken.
"Mr. Hughes, Mr. Getty called."
Jake sneered sarcastically but said nothing.
Micah continued, "He asked you to call him back."
Jake raised his hand to look for his phone, and Micah quickly picked it up from the desk and handed it to him.
Thinking he was going to call Victor back, Micah was surprised when Jake directly turned off the phone.
Then Jake propped himself up on the desk, staggered into the lounge, and fell asleep on the bed.
The engagement party ended perfectly, and the next morning, Sophia woke up in Gabriel's arms.
Gabriel was still asleep. Sophia reached out to touch his chin, and smiled happily.
Just as she was about to withdraw her hand, Gabriel suddenly grabbed her wrist.
"Darling." Gabriel opened his beautiful eyes, showing no signs of sleepiness, as if he had been awake for a long time.
Sophia's cheeks flushed slightly when hearing his calling.
It was a very peculiar feeling.
Last night, during their passion, Gabriel kept calling her "Sophia".
He even forced her to call his name "Gabriel".
Gabriel kissed her on the lips, his voice low and pleasant, "We should change how we address each other. From now on, I'll call you this."
Sophia blushed and gave a soft 'mm'.
Gabriel added, "You should call me darling too."
Sophia lowered her head and remained silent.
Gabriel urged, "Say it once for me."
He hooked her chin with his finger, forcing her to look at him.
After a moment of eye contact, she softly called out, "Darling."
Gabriel was instantly delighted, kissing her face, then her nose, then her lips, and finally her neck.
"Stop, Gabriel, it's morning."
"What did you call me?" Gabriel bit her collarbone in displeasure.
Sophia shivered, and her voice changed, "Darling."
Gabriel continued, adding, "Morning exercise is healthy."
Sophia remained silent.
The consequence of the exercise was that Sophia and Gabriel, who usually woke up early, were an hour late.
The three kids had already finished breakfast and were ready to leave carrying their backpacks.
"Mommy." Emma saw Sophia coming downstairs and ran over joyfully, "Mommy, you slept in today."
Sophia smiled to cover up, "Mommy went to bed too late last night."
"Mommy, go have breakfast. We're going to school now."
Emma kissed Sophia on the cheek.
"Mommy, are you hurt?" Emma noticed a red mark on Sophia's collarbone and blew on it with concern, "Mommy, it doesn't hurt."
Sophia felt a bit embarrassed.
"Mommy scratched it while itching, it doesn't hurt."
Emma breathed a sigh of relief.
Sophia thought to herself, luckily the kids don't understand yet. She would have to be more careful in the future and not let Gabriel mess around.
Sophia sent the three kids to the car, watching Desmond diligently protect them. During breakfast, Sophia brought up the idea of giving Desmond a raise and a bonus.
Gabriel, in a good mood, readily agreed.
At nine o'clock, Gabriel arrived at the company, and Alex reported the news from Country M last night.
"The Phoenix Group's chip problem is already known to the public. Mr. Vitelli couldn't find a solution and, fearing Victor might kill him, has fled with his family and money."
"Victor has no one under him who can solve the chip issue. If he can't come up with a solution tonight, the Phoenix Group will face huge penalties for breach of contract."
Gabriel nodded lightly. The issues with the Phoenix Group were all within his expectations.
He had personally participated in all stages of the X Project's development, so he was very familiar with the data. When Gabriel saw that the Phoenix Group had developed a chip similar to the X Project, he suspected they had used leaked data.
And the person behind it all was Jake.
He had seen the chip developed by the Phoenix Group and had Alex conduct experimental tests.
The chip was far from mature and did not meet the standards for market release.
So the chip would have problems sooner or later.
As soon as Gabriel entered his office, he received a call from Harrison.
Harrison's voice was particularly excited.
"Gabriel, as you predicted, the Phoenix Group's stock price has plummeted. I've already acquired nearly ten percent of the shares!"
Ten percent?
This was beyond Gabriel's expectations; he thought they could only acquire five percent this time.
Harrison had exceeded his expectations.
"Good, keep going."
Harrison replied, "No problem, leave it to me!"
After hanging up the phone, when the domestic stock market opened, Gabriel saw that Micro Circuit Group's stock price had inexplicably dropped a few points.
And the Lancaster Group's stock had stabilized and was improving today.
Jake slept until eleven o'clock and woke up with a splitting headache.
Sunlight poured onto his face, blindingly bright.
He raised his hand to shield his eyes.
He gradually sobered up.
There was a knock on the door outside, and Jake frowned tightly.
After a long time, he got up to open the door.
"What is it?"
Micah stood at the door.
"Mr. Getty asked me to call you."
A trace of hostility flashed in Jake's eyes.
"Ignore him."
"But Mr. Getty has been looking for you since last night. He said if you don't answer the phone, he'll come over in person."
A look of disgust appeared on Jake's face.
"I know, I'll contact him later."
"Yes, sir."
Jake went into the bathroom, and as the water poured down, his mind became clearer.
He now had nothing left to hold onto.
But he still didn't want anyone to hurt Sophia.
Jake took a cold shower, came out in a bathrobe, and while drying his hair, turned on his phone.
Then he called Victor back.
Victor quickly answered, seemingly waiting by the phone for his call.
"Jake, you finally contact me."
