Chapter 383 Looking Disappointed
Ella had been coming for three consecutive days without seeing Ruth. To express her concern, she went to the Lancaster Group.
"I really am Gabriel's aunt."
Ella thought that although Sophia had died, it didn't mean she never existed. So strictly speaking, Gabriel still had to call her aunt.
The receptionist looked indifferent and thought, 'There were a lot of scammers recently.'
"No appointment, no entry. If you really are Mr. Lancaster's aunt, give Mr. Lancaster a call, and he'll give the instructions."
If Ella had Gabriel's phone number, she would have called already and wouldn't be arguing with the receptionist here.
She couldn't get into the Lancaster Group, and given her status, she didn't want to wait here for Gabriel.
Ella had to leave first.
But in the afternoon, Ella went to the Lancaster Manor again.
This time, she had to find out where Ruth had gone.
Coincidentally, Ruth had returned to the manor that afternoon.
After all, this was still the root of the Lancaster family. Although Ruth had followed Sophia to that apartment, she would still come back from time to time.
Now Ruth even felt she could move back, leaving Sophia's family of five to bond well.
Ruth had just arrived home when a servant came to inform her that someone from the Brown family had come.
"Why is she here? Mrs. Ruth Lancaster. If you don't want to see her, shall I turn her away?" Betty said softly.
"No need. Let her in."
It had been a long time since anyone from the Brown family had visited. It was said that the Brown family had some stroke of luck this year. The company, which was on the verge of bankruptcy, had received a capital injection and was revived.
The legal representative and shareholders of the Brown Group hadn't changed, nor had there been any mortgages. Such a large sum of money, not an investment or a loan, what could it be?
Could it be that someone helped the Brown Group without expecting anything in return?
Ruth was a bit curious.
Ella entered with gifts.
"Mrs. Ruth Lancaster, I'm really sorry. There have been so many things at home, so I've been too busy to visit you."
Ruth smiled on the surface. "Mrs. Brown, come in and sit down. Betty, make us two cups of coffee."
"Mrs. Ruth Lancaster, these are nutritional supplements I had someone bring back from abroad, perfect for someone at your age."
"Thank you."
The atmosphere suddenly became quiet. Ruth didn't intend to start a conversation.
Ella awkwardly forced a smile and looked around.
"Is Gabriel still as busy as ever?"
"Yes," Ruth responded flatly.
"Gabriel is thirty now, right? Hasn't he married his girlfriend, Ms. Foster, yet?"
Ruth thought, 'Is Ella here to inquire about Gabriel's personal matters again?'
"They've broken up."
Ruth was quite relieved; Gabriel had finally come to his senses.
Ella's eyes lit up when she heard this.
Gabriel had broken up with Tiffany, which meant Patricia had a chance.
"Does Gabriel have a new girlfriend now?" Ella continued to inquire.
A knowing look flashed in Ruth's eyes.
"No."
"But I saw him with a woman at the hospital recently, and she was holding a child."
Ella wondered, 'Could it be that Ruth doesn't know?'
"Oh, that day," Ruth said, "Sam had a fever that day. The child you saw must have been Sam."
"And the woman..."
Ruth snorted inwardly but said warmly, "That was Sophie."
She picked up her coffee and took a sip. Ella was shocked by her words.
"Mrs. Ruth Lancaster!" Ella was startled and thought, 'It's broad daylight, but Ruth was talking nonsense. Sophia has been dead for years!'
"What's wrong? Why are you so shocked?" Ruth put down her coffee cup.
Ella's voice was a bit sharp.
"Sophia is dead. How could that person be Sophia? Mrs. Ruth Lancaster, are you confused?"
'Could Ruth have Alzheimer's?' She thought.
Ruth's face immediately darkened, and she glared at Ella.
"You're the one who's confused. Sophia isn't dead; she's still alive."
"Impossible!" Ella didn't believe it.
Ruth was very displeased, and her voice became sharp. "What's impossible about it? Sophia isn't dead. This is good news. Why do you look so disappointed?"
Ella snapped out of her shock and quickly said, "No, I'm very happy that Sophia is still alive. Where is she now?"
"Don't bother her. She's living well now. With me here, you can't trouble her again."
Ella explained, "We don't want to trouble Sophia. We just want to see her. After all, she's my relative, too."
"Sophia wouldn't want to see you."
Otherwise, why hadn't the Brown family known she was alive after she had been back for so long?
Ruth could understand Sophia very well.
When the Kelly family had an incident, the Brown family, who had been well taken care of by the Kelly family, were also implicated.
They didn't show any gratitude and blamed everything on the Kelly family, forcing Sophia to marry an old man to gain benefits for the Brown family.
After Ruth found out, she proposed the marriage between the Lancaster family and the Kelly family. The Brown family shamelessly wanted to replace Sophia with Patricia.
In that situation, Ruth had to pressure Gabriel into marrying Sophia quickly and offered the Brown family some benefits to prevent them from harming Sophia.
After that, Sophia cut ties with the Brown family. In her heart, the Brown family was no longer her relatives.
Ella left the Lancaster Manor feeling very unsettled.
Sophia was still alive, actually alive. She couldn't believe it.
She had to see it with her own eyes.
Ella's hands were shaking, and she could barely hold the steering wheel, almost driving the car into a ditch.
Sophia hurried to finish her work, handed the rest to Larry, and left early to go to the hospital.
Caroline's pale face had gradually become rosy but she was still deeply asleep, showing no signs of waking up.
A needle was inserted into the back of her fair hand, and the nutrient solution was being slowly infused.
"I'm here, Caroline." Paul came in, holding Josie. As soon as he entered, he started talking, regardless of whether Caroline could hear him.
"Ms. Kelly, you're here too." Paul saw Sophia.
Sophia's eyes were fixed on Josie.
"Ms. Clark." Josie looked worriedly at Caroline, then at Sophia. "Aunt Sophia, what's wrong with Ms. Clark?"
"She's asleep."
Josie's face turned slightly pale. "Will Ms. Clark wake up?"
"She will. As long as we talk to her more, we can wake her up."
"Josie, go talk to her." Paul put Josie down.
Josie nodded and ran to Caroline's side. She leaned close to Caroline's ear and started whispering,
"Ms. Clark, it's me, Josie."
"Ms. Clark, you have to wake up soon. No one is teaching me the violin."
"I've already learned the piece from last time, Ms. Clark. I'll play it for you next time."
Josie looked at Caroline lying motionless, feeling panicked.
