Chapter 504 Not Interested in Other Women
Caroline couldn't take her eyes off Nicholas' handsome face, his jawline so perfect in the sunlight streaming through the window.
"Thanks," she said softly, her lips just barely moving. After a few days of rest, her lip color was back to normal.
Nicholas looked surprised. "For what?"
Caroline wanted to thank him for the medical team, the stable job, and so much more. But the words got stuck in her throat.
She smiled, and it reached her eyes. "Just, thanks."
Nicholas seemed to get her mood, and his spirits lifted. He smiled warmly, making Caroline a bit dazed. That smile had once enchanted her.
After all these years, it was the first time she'd seen him smile like that since they met again.
Her heart started to race, and a blush spread across her cheeks.
The room filled with a charged atmosphere, making it feel warmer. Nicholas looked at her delicate hand on the blanket and reached out.
His Adam's apple bobbed, and his rapid breathing showed his nerves.
Just as he was about to touch her hand, there was a knock on the door.
Caroline quickly pulled her hand back. "Come in."
Nicholas was annoyed and angry at the interruption.
"Ms. Clark." It was Daniel, carrying some high-end nutritional supplements.
Nicholas' face darkened, and he didn't greet Daniel.
Daniel didn't notice Nicholas' expression; he was focused on Caroline.
"Ms. Clark, these are some supplements for your health, just a small gift." Daniel placed the items on the bedside table.
Caroline said, "Mr. Wolf, you're too kind. I've already accepted the compensation you gave me. You don't need to give me more gifts; it's too much."
Daniel sensed her distance, even stronger than before.
"Ms. Clark, you might have misunderstood," Daniel explained. "The check was to help you live better, not to buy your gratitude."
Caroline wanted to end her involvement with the Wolfs. "If you really want to thank me for donating bone marrow to your daughter, then please, have everyone in the Wolf family stop contacting me."
Daniel felt deeply ashamed. He was usually a master in negotiations, but now he couldn't say a word.
"Mr. Wolf, she needs to rest," Nicholas said, giving Daniel a cue to leave.
Daniel left, dejected.
Caroline looked at the ceiling. "I want to be discharged."
Nicholas said, "Okay."
He sent a message to Sharpe, who immediately handled the discharge procedures, and Paul came to help.
The classical fashion show competition was getting national attention because it involved students from Fusion Dynamics Corporation. Everyone was determined not to disgrace the company, so they were all working hard.
Patricia could only drag Sophia to work overtime for tutoring. Besides that, she didn't dare cause too much trouble.
But if Patricia wanted to completely drive Sophia out of Fusion Dynamics Corporation, she needed to do more.
Patricia had become Celeste's favorite granddaughter by constantly sharing Susan's hardships, making Celeste feel guilty and transferring that guilt onto Patricia.
She also acted very sweet around Jennifer, who had no daughter, making Patricia feel like the daughter she never had.
Sophia, as a goddaughter, couldn't compete with Patricia, the biological niece.
Sophia had been working overtime for days, leaving early and coming back late, even busier than Gabriel. Seeing her so tired made Gabriel feel bad.
In the mornings, he wouldn't let Sophia drive and personally took her to Fusion Dynamics Corporation.
"Is your coursework heavy?" he asked.
Logically, they were all professional designers, and going to Fusion Dynamics Corporation was just for extra credentials. The coursework shouldn't be this exhausting.
"It's okay," Sophia said, sitting in the passenger seat with her eyes closed, catching up on sleep.
Gabriel frowned, not wanting to disturb her rest on the way.
When they arrived at Fusion Dynamics Corporation, before Sophia got out of the car, Gabriel reminded her, "Text me before you get off work, and I'll come pick you up."
"Okay."
Sophia gathered her energy and continued her busy day.
She didn't want to teach Patricia, but she needed the credentials from Fusion Dynamics Corporation.
So she had to endure Patricia's antics.
In the morning, Jennifer took them to a weaving factory and introduced them to a type of fabric they didn't know about. Sophia took diligent notes, gaining a lot of useful professional knowledge.
In the afternoon, Celeste gave them a lecture.
"The classical fashion show competition is coming up soon. Everyone should focus on preparing for the competition. There won't be any more classes for now," Celeste said, looking at everyone with a kind face but sharp and authoritative eyes.
That day, Sophia stayed late to tutor Patricia, leaving Fusion Dynamics Corporation around 10 PM.
When Patricia saw Gabriel coming to pick up Sophia, her eyes lit up. As Gabriel opened the car door for Sophia, Patricia suddenly rushed over, pushing Sophia aside and sitting in the car. She then turned around with a pitiful look.
"Gabriel, my car broke down. It's so late now, can you give me a ride?"
Sophia was almost knocked down by Patricia's push, but Gabriel quickly caught her.
His face immediately darkened, and he glared at Patricia with a sharp look. "Get out!"
Patricia was so frightened that she shivered.
"Gabriel, I..." she bit her lip lightly.
She was now the heiress of the Blackwood family, and Gabriel didn't give her any face at all.
Patricia felt a bit panicked.
Gabriel said coldly, "Don't make me have someone drag you out!"
Patricia's face turned pale, and she looked pitifully at Sophia. "Sophia, my car really broke down. It's so late, and I'm scared to take a cab home alone. Can Gabriel give me a ride?"
Sophia snorted coldly in her heart. 'I can't do anything to her at Fusion Dynamics Corporation, but outside its doors, can she still trouble me?'
"Sure, but you sit in the back. He doesn't like other women sitting next to him." Sophia was right about that. Gabriel didn't like any woman getting too close to him except Sophia.
Patricia clenched her fists. 'What does Sophia mean Gabriel doesn't like other women sitting next to him? She is clearly saying that on purpose!'
But to spend more time with Gabriel, Patricia obediently got out of the car and moved to the back seat.
