Chapter 538 Paternity Test for Whom

Patricia got the test report from the hospital.

She strolled in, acting all clueless.

"Grandma, this report came from the hospital. You feeling okay?"

Patricia said, opening it up, looking all curious and worried, trying to figure out what was up with Celeste.

Then she pulled it out and checked it.

"A paternity test?" Patricia stared at Celeste, totally shocked.

"Grandma, who did a paternity test?"

Celeste was a bit confused. This was Ruth's doing.

Celeste thought, 'Why would Ruth have the hospital send the report home? Did she do it on purpose?'

Patricia's face went from shock to sadness, her emotions shifting naturally.

"Grandma, why did you..." Patricia's hands shook as she put the report on the table, tears streaming down her face.

Celeste picked up the report and read it.

It showed that Patricia was indeed related to her by blood.

She frowned.

Patricia cried, "Grandma, are you doubting that I'm not your granddaughter?"

Celeste looked up at her.

"I know I don't have your and Uncle David's favor. I've messed up a lot, but Grandma, I really am your biological granddaughter. How can you doubt me?"

"If you didn't want to acknowledge me, why tell me about my background? It would've been better to leave me with the Browns."

"You brought me back, and now you're questioning me. Grandma, that's just cruel."

Patricia cried so hard she could barely breathe, spilling her grievances between sobs.

Such a pitiful sight would melt anyone's heart.

If Ruth hadn't warned Celeste, Celeste would be feeling guilty towards Patricia right now.

Celeste put down the report, her deep gaze fixed on Patricia's face.

"Patricia."

Celeste finally spoke. Patricia felt relieved. If Celeste didn't speak soon, she wouldn't know how to keep up the act.

Today, she had to win back Celeste's trust and get her to agree to help the Browns out of their mess.

Only if the Browns were doing well could she have a solid backing and move forward with her plans in the Blackwoods without any worries.

Patricia had it all figured out. Besides inheriting Fusion Dynamics Corporation, she would also get half of the shares of the Blackwood Group that David managed in the future.

By then, when Celeste passed away and David and Jennifer retired, most of the Blackwoods' wealth would be hers.

Thinking of the endless riches, Patricia felt excited.

She cried even harder, feeling more aggrieved, sobbing as she waited for Celeste to continue speaking.

Celeste asked her, "Be honest, do I love you?"

Patricia's expression froze. 'What does Celeste mean by this?'

She nodded. "Of course you love me. After all, I'm your only granddaughter."

She didn't forget to remind Celeste that she was her only granddaughter.

"Since you came to the Blackwoods, haven't I given you the best of everything? Caring for you every day, afraid you'd feel wronged."

Patricia's hands were on her lap, picking at her thumbnail.

"Yes."

She couldn't deny Celeste's kindness, but...

"I know you love me and spoil me, but Grandma..."

Celeste suddenly cut her off sharply, "Since I've been so good to you, why did you lie to me!"

Patricia was stunned by Celeste's sudden question, frozen for a long time.

Cold sweat drenched the back of her shirt.

"I-I didn't. How could I lie to you, Grandma? Maybe someone else is messing with you?"

"Alright, then explain why you and Sophia look like twins. Anyone who didn't know better would think you were."

Patricia panicked, a bad feeling creeping in.

She was speechless, her mind blank.

Celeste's sharp eyes bore into her, making her too scared to show any emotion.

"I've said it before, Grandma, there are lots of people who look alike. Maybe I just have one of those faces, so I look like Sophia."

Celeste's gaze got even sharper, her tone more severe, "Just to be clear, what's your deal with Sophia? Are you really my granddaughter?"

The room went dead silent, so quiet you could hear a pin drop.

The snow outside was coming down harder. Right now, it was just Celeste and Patricia in The Blackwood Mansion; the housekeeper had already gone home for the holidays.

There was a plate of fruit on the table, with a sharp fruit knife on it.

Patricia lowered her head, her eyes slowly drifting towards the fruit knife.

'If... if Celeste died, wouldn't no one doubt me anymore? Wouldn't I get Fusion Dynamics Corporation even faster?' Patricia thought.

In an instant, Patricia was completely consumed by her dark thoughts, her fingers twitching.

At that moment, the doorbell rang again, snapping Patricia out of it.

She kept crying, suddenly kneeling beside Celeste, hugging her.

"Grandma, I really am your granddaughter. Didn't you secretly do another paternity test? If I hadn't mistaken it for your medical report and accidentally opened it, were you planning to keep it from me?"

Celeste stared at her for a few seconds, then sighed and reached out to touch her head.

"I'm sorry."

Patricia thought, 'She's still so loving, so remorseful.'

Just now, Celeste had felt a strong sense of unease. Now that there was no one else at home, she retracted her imposing aura.

The doorbell was still ringing.

Celeste softened her voice, "Stop crying. I'll go see who it is."

Patricia thought Celeste's softened attitude meant she had been fooled. She smartly followed Celeste's words.

Patricia stood up and wiped her tears.

"You sit down, I'll get the door."

"Alright."

As soon as Patricia walked away, Celeste hid the knife from the fruit plate.

The people at the door were Sophia and Ruth.

They were accompanied by Betty and James.

"What are you doing here!" Patricia's eyes flashed with annoyance.

'It's all Ruth and Sophia's fault for meddling!' She cursed silently in her mind.

Standing in front of Ruth, Sophia pushed Patricia aside.

"I'm here to see Celeste."

"You, I didn't allow you in!" Patricia was furious. She couldn't let Sophia and Ruth ruin the plan at this moment.

Patricia thought, 'I am about to get Celeste's forgiveness.'

She tried to pull Sophia away, but Sophia was stronger. Sophia pinned her against the door, her elbow pressing against Patricia's neck.

"This is the Blackwood Mansion, Patricia. Your last name is Brown!" Sophia's tone carried a warning.

Patricia was so scared that Sophia might strangle her that she didn't dare move.

"Is that you, Sophie?"
