Chapter 140 How did Madam Lancaster know.
Whenever Daddy couldn't accompany him due to work in the past, Sam would feel very disappointed. However, today, he thought it was great that Daddy couldn't be with him because of work.
Alex didn't break his promise. Before Gabriel left, he glanced at his son strangely. Why did he feel like his son couldn't wait for him to leave?
Just an illusion, surely! Gabriel thought.
Gabriel's car drove about five kilometers out of the estate and passed by a taxi, in which Ethan and Emma sat.
There were many other mansions in this area not only the Lancaster family manor, but also several villas nearby. Moreover, there were also servants and gardeners in the manor, so it was normal to see a taxi here.
So Gabriel didn't pay special attention to it. However, the taxi couldn't enter the estate and stopped at the entrance.
The main gate opened timely, and Sam waved his hand at Ethan and Emma from the sightseeing car.
The two little darlings happily ran towards him.
David was the designated driver, and the three children chatted excitedly in the car. Of course, with David present, Sam remained silent, but his gestures were quick and clear.
The flowers, plants, and trees in the estate had withered, and the trees were bare. The ground was covered with golden leaves, dampened by the morning dew, giving off the scent of wet earth, which was not unpleasant.
Mrs. Lancaster had been waiting for them, with delicious food, drinks, and fun activities all prepared.
"Madam Lancaster." Ethan said.
"Madam Lancaster, we've come to see you." Emma cheerfully greeted.
The two little ones rushed in, calling out and ran into Mrs. Lancaster's arms, nearly knocking her over. Betty quickly extended her hand to support Madam.
The two children were indeed full of energy.
"Alright, Madam Lancaster missed you so much. Do you miss Madam Lancaster?" Mrs. Lancaster immediately smiled, her eyes narrowing.
"We miss you, thousands and thousands of times every day," Emma said sweetly.
Ethan tilted his little head and said, "I made a pair of knee pads for Madam Lancaster."
Madam Lancaster had leg and foot problems, as well as rheumatism. She would be in great pain during rainy and cloudy weather.
Ethan didn't know before, but he had observed it during his recent interactions with Madam Lancaster. So, he humbly consulted his godfather to find out that it was rheumatism.
"I made a pair too." Emma also quickly took out the one she made herself.
She chose the color pink, while Ethan's was light gray. Madam Lancaster gladly accepted the two knee pads.
"You are so lovely, always bringing me gifts," Madam's eyes welled up again.
Sam affectionately moved closer, gently touching Madam Lancaster's cheek, silently telling her not to cry.
The three children had different personalities but shared a common trait of being particularly empathetic.
Emma was mischievous but also sensible.
As for Ethan, it goes without saying.
Sam, on the other hand, didn't talk much but expressed himself through actions.
All three children were now her great-grandchildren, and the void in Madam's heart that had lasted for five years seemed to be filled.
"I also have gifts for you," Mrs. Lancaster impromptu said to Betty, "Go get the box from my jewelry cabinet."
Betty was surprised. Could it be that Madam... without question Betty quickly fetched the box.
Madam opened it with a smile, and inside were two pocket watches. Ethan and Emma looked at them in confusion.
"This one is for Ethan." Madam put on her reading glasses and squinted to examine one of the pocket watches before giving it to Ethan.
Ethan took it, looked at it, and found the small inscription "Lancaster" on the pocket watch.
"Thank you, Madam Lancaster." Ethan said respectfully.
Madam gave the other one to Emma. Emma joyfully thanked her and held onto the pocket watch lovingly.
From the looks of it, Madam Lancaster had cherished these treasures for a long time, and now she was giving these treasures to them. It meant that Madam Lancaster liked them, so, of course, they were happy.
The two children had no concept of the value of the items. They wouldn't think twice about accepting these two pocket watches just because they were valuable.
Their thoughts were pure. If it was a gift from Madam Lancaster, it meant Madam Lancaster cared for them, and they didn't want to upset her.
Sure enough, Madam was delighted to see their happiness and smiled even more.
Sam gestured, "I have the same thing too."
Ethan and Emma instantly understood. This might be something unique to the Lancaster family's descendants, perhaps even a heritage.
Sam felt nervous. Could it be that Madam Lancaster knew their identities? Why else would she give them a heritage pocket watch unique to the Lancaster family?
Ethan felt uneasy and wanted to test Madam.
"Madam Lancaster, there's a word on here." He asked.
Madam Lancaster didn't think much of it and calmly explained, "That's the word 'Lancaster,' and since your father's last name is also Lancaster, from now on, I will be your dear Madam Lancaster."
"Okay." The two children were dumbfounded.
How did Madam Lancaster know the truth? When did she find out?
Betty looked at the two children, who were acting foolishly, and smiled as she reminded them, "Didn't she mention last time that she wants to be your relative? Madam was in a hurry that day and didn't have time to prepare gifts, so she's making it up to you today."
Ethan and Emma felt a huge wave of relief in their hearts. It turned out to be like this. They thought they had been discovered.
It scared them.
"Thank you, Madam Lancaster. From now on, we're also Madam Lancaster's grandchildren," Emma said, playfully hugging Madam Lancaster.
"Where are your mom and dad? Why didn't they come today?" Madam suddenly remembered that she hadn't spoken to the children's parents yet and didn't know what they thought of the situation.
"We have guests at home today, so they couldn't come," Ethan casually made up an excuse.
It's New Year's Day today, so it's normal to have guests at home.
Madam didn't inquire further. It would be the same seeing them next time.
They only had half a day, and the three adorable kids entertained Madam and accompanied her in doing the things she wanted to do. Even though Madam told them to go play by themselves, they insisted on staying by her side.
Half a day quickly passed, and Madam wanted Ethan and Emma to stay overnight, or at least have dinner before leaving.
But Ethan and Emma said, "Mom is working hard at home entertaining guests, so we need to go back and help."
Look, how well-behaved the children are.
Reluctantly, Madam bid farewell to the two children, her eyes shining with a layer of moisture.
"Madam, why did you give the pocket watch meant for the late young master and young miss to Ethan and Emma?" Betty couldn't understand.
Madam evaded the question, "If only they were my true grandchildren."
Betty's nose tingled with emotion. Was Madam expressing her longing?
Every time the two children came to the house to play, she couldn't help but feel an overwhelming desire for them to be truly descended from the Lancaster family.
After a while, Madam spoke with a solemn tone, "Betty, from now on, treat them as the young master and young miss of the Lancaster family."
Betty choked up, "Yes, this is great. Our young master finally has siblings."
Madam Lancaster smiled with relief.
