Chapter 55 Vocation
"You leaving, has had a huge impact on him. You have time to care about him more. While Sam's autism is not entirely your responsibility, you are also inseparable from it. The child is adorable. Regardless of your grievances with Gabriel, Sam is innocent."
For once, Harrison spoke seriously. He genuinely cared for Sam.
Sophia nodded firmly, "I didn't know Sam was still alive before, but now that I know, I will fulfill my responsibilities as a mother."
"That's good. Sam relies on you. As for Tiffany, I don't think she's been good to Sam either. After all, she's not his biological mother, and Mr. -Lancaster is too busy to deal with it all."
Talking about Tiffany and Gabriel made Sophia's expression turn ugly.
"By the way, if you have time, go visit Madam at the old mansion. She really misses you," Harrison said before leaving.
Sophia just nodded.
She didn't want to go to the old mansion anymore—it held too much pain for her.
But Madam...
Once things with Sam were settled, she would go see Madam. Madam genuinely cared for her, and she didn't want to see Madam constantly in sorrow. After the lunch break, Larry was like a curious nosy child, moving his chair closer to Sophia.
"Sophia, do you know Harrison? I saw you two getting along well during lunch."
Larry's curiosity mirrored that of everyone else. Many people had seen Harrison and Sophia sitting together, chatting and laughing in the cafeteria.
Harrison was the company's general manager, second only to Mr. Lancaster in terms of position. Like Alex, he was Mr. Lancaster's right-hand man and had an excellent relationship with him. And most importantly, he was a high-profile eligible bachelor!
"We've met a few times before, but we're not close."
She wouldn't engage with Gabriel again, and she definitely wouldn't get too close to Harrison.
Seeing Sophia's apparent desire to distance herself from any relationship, the eavesdroppers breathed a sigh of relief, and Larry was relieved for Sophia as well.
"Harrison is quite a playboy. It's a good thing you didn't become one of his conquests. Just be careful in the future and don't accidentally fall into Harrison's love trap."
Facing Larry's friendly reminder, Sophia nodded politely and agreed in her heart. Indeed, Harrison was a womanizer, with a different woman by his side every day.
Sophia intentionally left work one hour early today. As soon as she arrived home, she looked for Ethan and Emma.
She was relieved to see both children quietly reading extracurricular books.
"Are you still not feeling well?"
Emma shook her head, "I'm fine now."
"What would you like to eat tonight? Mommy will cook for you."
Sophia rolled up her sleeves, ready to get to work.
"I want to eat braised chicken wings," she said.
Ethan put down his book. "Mommy, let me help you."
"No need, you've already worked hard today taking care of your little sister. Just sit and read peacefully," Sophia replied.
Sophia kissed Ethan on the cheek and went into the kitchen to start cooking.
During dinner, Emma suggested going on a vacation for the weekend.
"A vacation?" Sophia thought to herself. It had been a while since she had taken the kids on a trip, but with her new product launch coming up, she might not have time this weekend.
"We heard that Green Villa in Shanghai city is a lot of fun. Mommy, we want to go," Emma pleaded, tugging at Sophia's clothes.
Ethan also looked at Sophia with expectant eyes.
"Let's go in two weeks then," Sophia said. If the kids wanted to go, they should go.
"But we want to go this week. We heard there will be performances, and next time there won't be any," Emma continued with her coaxing.
They needed to convince Mommy to go this week so they could create an opportunity for Mommy to meet Sam.
Originally, they had planned for Sam to come over and play at their house this weekend. But in the afternoon, Sam called them and said his dad wanted to take him to Green Villa. So they had to change their plans.
Ethan expressed his desire to see the performances as well.
Sophia thought that taking the two little ones to a different environment all of a sudden might make them feel insecure, so she decided to take them to play and relax this week.
After Sophia agreed, Ethan immediately brought her the iPad, and with the suggestions of the two kids, they booked a bed and breakfast.
Seeing their joyful smiles because they could go and play, Sophia felt very satisfied.
...
Finally, the busy and intense week came to an end. On Friday evening, the two little ones excitedly packed their bags, even taking care of Sophia's portion, leaving her with no worries.
The next day, Sophia went to the car rental company early in the morning and rented a car, then set off with the two kids.
Around the same time, Gabriel also set off from his old residence.
He picked up Tiffany first before heading to Green Villa.
Tiffany sat in the passenger seat, while Sam silently sat in the back, his gaze distant and lost in his own world, quietly like a soulless being. He sat upright with his legs and hands placed neatly on his lap.
Tiffany appeared to be happy on the surface, but in her heart, she found Sam quite annoying.
If it weren't for having to bring him along in order to get Gabriel to spend time with her on this vacation, she definitely wouldn't have brought such a third wheel.
Upon arrival, they had booked a standalone villa where the staff had been waiting. As soon as the car arrived, they opened the doors and carried their luggage inside.
Gabriel carried Sam in his arms.
"Do you want to play or rest?" Gabriel asked Sam gently.
Sam touched his stomach, indicating that he was hungry.
Gabriel was annoyed at himself for not thinking ahead. After driving for four hours, he was not only hungry but worried about the child as well.
"I had already prepared some food. Shall we eat first and then take a rest before going to explore the nearby area?" Tiffany kindly suggested, displaying her nurturing side.
Gabriel led Sam inside.
Meanwhile, Sophia had also arrived. The rented house they had booked was just behind the villa, about seven hundred meters away. They hadn't prepared any food in advance, but Sophia had pre-ordered groceries, which the innkeeper had already put in the refrigerator.
Sophia wasted no time in cooking. After feeding the two children, she took a beautiful nap herself and only started being active in the afternoon.
"Mummy, the performance won't start until tonight. Let's go for a bike ride," the children proposed.
Sophia quickly tidied up and took the two children for a bike ride through the woods.
Ethan and Emma pedaled so fast that they vanished in the blink of an eye. Yet Sophia wasn't worried about them getting lost; Ethan was like a little walking map, especially good with directions.
Feeling tired from cycling, Sophia decided to park the bicycles to the side and took out her phone to take some pictures.
But while she was taking pictures, she suddenly saw a familiar figure in the frame.
Setting her phone down, Sophia squinted her eyes and looked into the distance.
Was she hallucinating?
Was that Sam?
A smile formed at the corner of Sophia's mouth, and she joyfully ran towards the figure.
However, by the time she reached the spot, the person was nowhere to be found.
