Chapter 137 Tiffany deceived him.
Colin specifically provided Sam with some psychological guidance. At first, Sam was a bit resistant, but luckily everything went smoothly later on.
Sophia and Gabriel sat in the living room waiting, neither of them breaking the silence.
Sophia no longer wanted to ask Gabriel about the medication swap. Tiffany was his girlfriend, and even if she did discover Tiffany's involvement, Gabriel would probably protect her.
So, whether she asked or not didn't matter now; she just wanted Sam to be safe and healthy.
She also had to strive harder to fight for Sam's custody rights!
Gabriel locked his gaze on her, his handsome face expressionless. Clearly, he had something to say, but every time he tried to speak, nothing came out. His feelings were complicated.
This incident was his negligence, which caused Sam to take those pills. He was indeed an inadequate father.
Sophia's scolding was justified.
After a long while, Gabriel averted his gaze. His hands clasped tightly together, knuckles turning white. His heart was in turmoil.
One hour had passed in silence.
Afterwards, Colin walked out and gently closed the bedroom door. The warm light enveloped Colin's slender figure, as he gave Sophia a slight smile and pushed his glasses in his characteristic way.
Sophia's tense heart immediately relaxed. Gabriel felt an uneasy sensation rise within him, but he forcefully suppressed it.
"The situation is better than I imagined," Colin said, taking a seat. Sophia and Gabriel sighed in relief simultaneously.
"What you both need to do is to accompany, care for, and be more patient with him, communicate with him, interact..." Colin spoke at length, and Sophia and Gabriel listened attentively.
"I will return to Country M the day after tomorrow, but you can call me if there are any special circumstances." Colin reassured.
Gabriel furrowed his brow lightly and said, "Mr. Colin, could you temporarily stay in City B for a while? You can name your own price."
"I understand your feelings, but it's not necessary at all. If you're truly concerned, I can recommend my classmate to you. You can contact him for help, and if he can't handle it, then reach out to me." Colin declined the offer as gently as possible.
Colin took out his phone and found his classmate's number.
Although Sophia also wished Colin could stay for a while, Colin had his own life and work to attend to.
Moreover, Colin was completely different from Alfred; no amount of money could tempt him. This made Sophia and Gabriel even more reassured about Colin treating Sam.
Sam was sound asleep, and he didn't wake up when Gabriel picked him up.
As they were about to leave, Sophia looked at Colin, wanting to say something, but Gabriel had already entered the elevator with Sam in his arms.
Colin smiled and asked, "Is there anything else you're worried about?"
Sophia shook her head. "I have no more worries. I just noticed that Mr. Colin seemed a bit unhappy today."
Colin's heart warmed. He thought he had concealed it well, but Sophia still noticed. He couldn't help but say that Sophia was observant.
In that case, he suddenly felt that it would be nice to confide in her.
"I came to Z Country to find someone, but I just found out this afternoon that the person I was looking for has passed away." Colin said in a tone that tried to be neutral.
A tinge of sadness surfaced within Sophia's heart.
"Sorry for your loss." Sophia said.
"Thank you. It's late now, so you should go back quickly. If you have any matters, just call or message me. Despite the time difference, I'll try my best to reply instantly," Colin said with a playful smile, feeling much better after sharing.
He had only known Sophia for a few days. He was not someone who opened up easily, even with Caroline, whom he had known for a long time, their relationship was only surface level.
For some reason, from the moment he laid eyes on Sophia, he felt a connection, a warmth. Seeing Sophia suffer and experience pain because of Sam made his heart ache.
Colin wasn't emotionally unintelligent; he knew that this feeling wasn't infatuation. But it wasn't exactly familial love either. He and Sophia were strangers to each other.
Maybe it was because Sophia looked like her grandmother?
"Oh, by the way, you mentioned that you took medication for depression that day. Have you ever suffered from depression?" Colin suddenly remembered this and showed concern for Sophia’s wellbeing.
The elevator doors closed automatically over there, but Gabriel saw that Sophia didn't get on, so he opened the elevator doors again. Colin walked Sophia over, and Gabriel happened to hear Colin's question to Sophia, raising an eyebrow slightly.
"Well, it was five years ago. I'm completely fine now," Sophia replied, not intending to hide anything. She felt very comfortable being around Colin, as if she had known him for many years.
"I'm not only focused on child psychology matters. I have also studied adult mental health issues. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me anytime," Colin said, noticing that she had indeed gotten better.
Although her emotions sometimes got out of control, it was usually only when it came to matters related to her child. Otherwise, she was quite stable.
Sophia nodded heavily, like a well-behaved child.
"I will, thank you, Mr. Colin." Sophia greeted him pleasantly.
"Go inside, goodbye." Colin gestured for Sophia to enter the elevator.
"Goodbye." Sophia acknowledged.
Sophia entered the elevator, and Gabriel's hand, which had been pressing the open-door button, moved to the close button on the panel.
The elevator doors closed slowly, and the elevator descended.
"Did you really have depression back then?" Gabriel's sudden question caught Sophia off guard.
What does he mean? What does he mean by "really"? Sophia thought.
So, he knows she had depression at that time but doesn't believe it was real? But does it matter now to confirm its authenticity?
Sophia didn't respond, finding his question somewhat offensive.
Gabriel, however, suddenly became certain in his heart about the authenticity of this matter. So... Tiffany had lied to him?!
Today, Sophia didn't refuse to take Gabriel's car. She even got in voluntarily without waiting for Gabriel's instructions and sat in the back seat. Sam was sleeping soundly in her arms.
Gazing at her son's adorable face, Sophia whispered.
"Sam will be with me on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. He'll be with you the rest of the time." She said to Gabriel, her eyes not leaving Sam as she spoke.
Gabriel didn't have any objections at the moment. Colin had mentioned that Sam had both love and resentment in his heart toward his biological mother. This kind of complicated and pessimistic emotion could be triggering for Sam.
Therefore, Colin suggested that Sophia shouldn't reveal herself to Sam for the time being but rather interact with him in a different identity.
When Sam truly accepted her from the depths of his heart and was willing to open up and speak to her, then they could gradually dissolve that resentment he holds toward his mother.
As for how that resentment formed, Colin couldn't say for sure. There were just too many factors involved.
During the process of a child's gradual brain development and maturity, they observe their surroundings and many things, even unintentional words or actions, can trigger various associations in a child's mind.
Sam is a unique case in that regard. Other children may ask their parents or teachers, but Sam doesn't ask anything. He can only internalize everything.
Gabriel still wasn't completely at ease in his heart.
"Can I..." Sophia pushed for confirmation.
"Promise me to try it this way for a month. If Sam experiences any adverse effects, we must stop." Gabriel said.
Sophia still angry at Gabriel, stated what she thought was obvious. "I'm not as busy as you are, and I don’t spend my free time dating and ignoring my son."
Gabriel became increasingly angry at Sophia’s words "Sophia, you!"
Sophia turned her head and looked out of the car window, no longer paying attention to Gabriel.
