Chapter 457 Taking Possession

Grant had erased all traces of Sophia at Blue End, so even if Gabriel searched all of City B, it would take time. By then, it would be too late.

Grant lounged in the living room, turned on the TV, and crossed his legs. When Jake woke up, he'd thank him for sure.

The door suddenly opened. Grant turned, his expression shifting. "Jake, you..."

Jake's face was pale and grim. He staggered over and punched Grant.

Jake almost fell but steadied himself on the sofa, eyes bloodshot. "What did you do to her?"

Grant stood up, wiping blood from his mouth.

"Jake, I'm helping you!" He couldn't understand Jake's anger. "You've been obsessed with her, delaying your revenge. If you like her, why not just take her?"

Jake swung again, but Grant dodged.

Still weak from his fever, Jake grabbed a fruit knife and pressed it to Grant's neck.

His voice was chilling. "I warned you, don't act on your own again."

Grant swallowed nervously, avoiding Jake's eyes. "I'm sorry, I thought you wanted her. I just wanted to help you focus on your revenge."

Jake's anger flared. He wanted Sophia, but if something had happened between them today, she'd hate him when she woke up, and his efforts would be wasted.

He wanted Sophia's willing heart, her genuine affection, her love.

Not just her body.

The knife clattered to the floor, and Grant quickly got up, touching his neck and exhaling.

Jake had almost killed him.

Jake's eyes were dark. "Get the car and take her to the hospital."

Grant didn't dare defy him. He knew Jake would kill him if he did.

Jake carried the unconscious Sophia out, and Grant drove to the hospital.

"When she wakes up, tell her she fainted," Jake coldly instructed.

Grant shivered. "Got it!"

Even though it wasn't Jake's doing, Grant was his man. Sophia couldn't know the truth, or she'd despise him.

Sophia was getting an IV in the hospital room. Jake stayed by her side, holding her hand, eyes full of guilt.

"You always saw me as a friend, but I've always loved you."

"If I had known, I would've called you 'darling.'"

"I should've clung to you. Would you have been my girlfriend then?"

"You said you wouldn't get back with Gabriel, so please don't."

"Otherwise, I don't know what I might do."

The thought of Sophia and Gabriel getting back together gnawed at Jake, filling him with pain and resentment, driving him crazy.

He had considered Grant's approach, but reason prevailed. He couldn't defile Sophia like that.

Half an hour later, Sophia woke up feeling dizzy and uncomfortable.

Jake used the rehearsed excuse, showing her some recent test reports. "The doctor said you might be stretching yourself too thin."

The test results were normal, except for a bit of low blood sugar. Sophia didn't question it.

"Your fever's gone?" she asked, concerned.

Jake smiled innocently. "Yeah, I'm all better."

"That's good." Sophia noticed it was dark outside and started searching around.

"What are you looking for?"

"My phone?"

Jake handed her bag to her.

Sophia found her phone and saw countless missed calls. It was already early morning.

"Oh no, Ethan, Emma, and Sam must be worried." She quickly called Lancaster Manor to assure them she was safe, then called Gabriel.

Gabriel asked, "Where are you?"

"I'm at the hospital."

"Wait there, I'm coming."

"Okay." While on the phone, Sophia didn't notice Jake's expression change.

When she hung up and turned around, Jake immediately put on a warm smile. "Is Gabriel coming?"

"Yeah," Sophia said awkwardly. "He almost died for me. I've been taking care of him and staying with the kids at Lancaster Manor. Those thugs haven't been caught, and it's safer there."

Jake nodded. "That's good. If you're at Lancaster Manor, those people will think twice."

Sophia smiled. She explained to Jake so he wouldn't worry about her living arrangements. She always felt she owed him too much.

Gabriel arrived and saw Jake. His eyes narrowed slightly, then he looked at Sophia with concern. "What happened?"

"I just fainted from low blood sugar. Jake brought me to the hospital," she explained.

Gabriel wanted to ask why she was with Jake when she said she'd visit him after work, but he held back, not wanting to make her uncomfortable.

"Thank you, Mr. Hughes. I'll treat you to a meal sometime," Gabriel said to Jake, though his eyes showed little gratitude.

Jake's intentions towards Sophia were clear. Why was he always around when something happened to her? Gabriel didn't believe it was all a coincidence.

"Sophia is very important to me. No need for a meal, Mr. Lancaster. Bringing her to the hospital was the right thing to do," Jake responded with a faint smile.

Sophia felt the tension between the two men rising again.

She glanced at the IV pouch attached to her arm. "I'm almost done."

Gabriel pressed the call button, and a nurse quickly came to remove the needle.

Sophia still felt a bit dizzy when she got up.

"I need to go to the restroom."

Gabriel and Jake waited at the door of the hospital room. Gabriel's face was stern, while Jake wore a faint smile that didn't reach his eyes.

"Sophia is a wonderful woman. You didn't cherish her before, and you still don't. You take advantage of her gratitude and exploit her.

"If it weren't for that, she wouldn't have low blood sugar."
