Chapter 57 One Sentence Becomes a Knife
After much effort, Sophia managed to stand on one foot, attempting to place her injured foot on the ground. However, the moment she did, she was overwhelmed by a sharp pain, causing cold sweat to trickle down her forehead. Her other foot was also unsteady, causing her to plummet to the ground once again.
This time, Gabriel reached out just in time to catch her.
A faint, pleasant fragrance emanated from the man, accompanied by his unique charm of pheromones. Sophia stiffened, but once she had regained her balance, she pushed Gabriel away.
"Your condition doesn't seem good. Are you sure you don't need my help?" Faced with her disdainful attitude, Gabriel felt quite unhappy. He berated himself for his momentary weakness, for why would he bother helping her when her life or death had nothing to do with him?
Yet, despite his inner conflict, he still came after her, concerned for her well-being.
Gabriel scolded himself silently and crossed his arms, watching as Sophia hopped forward on one foot.
Sophia paid no attention to Gabriel, her small face stubbornly set.
She wouldn't ask for Gabriel's help under any circumstances.
However, as she looked ahead at the long road and saw her shattered phone lying on the ground, her heart sank.
Nevertheless, she picked up the broken phone, tucked it into her pocket, and continued hopping forward.
As Gabriel watched her stubbornly refuse to ask for his help, his anger stirred inexplicably.
He didn't know why he was angry. In any case, Sophia had a way of making him lose his temper.
He suddenly strode over, scooping Sophia up in his arms.
"Ah... Gabriel, let me go!" Sophia struggled with all her might, but the more she struggled, the more pain seared through her foot.
With a dark expression, Gabriel threatened, "Do you trust me enough to drop you?"
He approached the side of the road where a small ditch lay, void of water but filled with muddy darkness.
Sophia's face turned pale.
"Put me down." She glared at Gabriel.
Gabriel paid no attention, feeling strangely remorseful.
He had never been one to meddle in other people's business, but perhaps it was because Sophia was his ex-wife and had already "died" once, or maybe it was because his strange illness had some immunity towards her.
He seemed to have some difficulty witnessing Sophia in such a pitiful state.
A fiery rage burned within Sophia's chest as she looked at Gabriel's well-defined jawline, his smooth and fair neck, and that sexy Adam's apple. The fire burned even brighter.
What does this bastard want to do?
If he truly meant well, he shouldn't have scared her and caused her injury.
"Gabriel, how can you be so hypocritical? It was you who caused my injury, and now you are the one offering help. You've played both the villain and the good guy," she retorted.
Since she couldn't resist with physical strength, she wouldn't spare Gabriel's ears either.
Sometimes, words alone could become a knife.
And she wanted to stab Gabriel with a few more of these verbal knives.
Sure enough, Gabriel...
Her figure froze, and her face grew even darker. Her deep, terrifying eyes held Sophia tightly in his grasp.
"If you say one more word, I'll throw you down," Gabriel warned her through gritted teeth.
Sophia scoffed, "What's wrong? Did I hit the nail on the head? Are you annoyed and getting angry?"
She screamed and instinctively reached out to grab Gabriel's neck, her face turning even paler, her heart pounding rapidly.
Gabriel really wanted to throw her into the ditch!
"You bastard, Gabriel! If you have the guts, put me down!" she exclaimed.
Gabriel couldn't be bothered to deal with her anymore and carried her back.
"Aren't you afraid of your girlfriend Tiffany seeing you? What if she gets jealous and breaks up with you?" Sophia continued to provoke Gabriel.
She was defiant and even struggled in his arms several times, nearly falling down.
But Gabriel held her steadily. Sophia decided to take it to the extreme and bit into the flesh on Gabriel's neck.
"Ugh..." Gabriel winced in pain. "Are you a dog, Sophia?"
Finally, he let her down.
Sophia stood on one foot, disgustingly wiped her mouth with her hand.
"Who told you not to put me down? Your behavior has already constituted a crime. I can sue you," she threatened.
First, following her, and then forcibly carrying her. It wouldn't be excessive to charge him with harassment.
Gabriel clenched his fists and resisted the urge to strangle her. His voice was magnetic but terrifyingly low.
"I would like to see how you'll get back alone!"
With that, he walked away decisively, his long legs swiftly disappearing among the maple trees.
Sophia muttered disdainfully under her breath, "He's clearly a big bad wolf; why does he have to pretend to be a good person?"
She continued to jump, thinking that she could eventually jump back, but forgot that she couldn't find her way back in the first place.
It was really unlucky. She hadn't encountered anyone else all this time.
Sophia sighed inwardly, realizing that she should check the almanac before going out in the future.
Suddenly, she spotted a small figure not far away.
Narrowing her eyes, Sophia shouted excitedly, "Sam, Sam!"
Sam had just separated from Ethan and Emma and was ready to go back. He had been out for a long time, and his father was probably going to look for him.
Faintly hearing someone calling his name, Sam stopped and looked back.
From a distance, he couldn't quite make out who it was.
The voice came again, carried by the wind.
"Sam, I'm here."
Sam recognized the voice.
After thinking for a few seconds, he followed his heart and walked over.
As he got closer, Sophia's gloom instantly vanished, replaced by pure joy on her face.
"Sam, did you come on a holiday with your dad?" she exclaimed. She didn't expect Gabriel to bring Sam along.
Sophia quickly looked around. Was Gabriel not here?
Sam looked at her standing with one feet, pointing at her leg hesitantly with confusion.
Sophia smiled and said, "I just twisted it a little, it's nothing serious, you don't have to worry."
Sam nodded and indicated that he was going back.
Sophia said, "Are you alone? I'll walk you back."
She couldn't bear to have her son wandering in the woods alone. What if he encountered bad people or got lost?
After thinking for a moment, Sam agreed.
Sophia reached out to hold his little hand, and Sam didn't refuse.
But Sophia soon encountered a problem. Jumping on one leg was too slow, and her leg was growing more and more sore. Besides, she couldn't find the way.
Sam let go of her hand and gestured, "Auntie, wait for me here. I'll go get someone to help you."
"No need, don't run around by yourself," Sophia shook her head.
Sam said, "I know the way back."
"But..."
"I will protect myself."
"Well then, be careful," Sophia had no other choice.
She leaned against a tree to rest, watching Sam's small figure tirelessly running for her, feeling indescribably complicated in her heart.
After waiting for about ten minutes, Sophia saw Ethan and Emma coming with the landlord.
