Chapter 319 Like a Thief

Early in the morning, the sun shone brightly, warm and pleasant.
The doorbell rang, and Sophia, dressed in casual attire and slippers, went to answer the door.
A bright red rose appeared in front of Sophia, revealing a plain face behind the rose.
"Is this Sophia?"
"Yes."
"Could you please sign for this?" The delivery person handed her the receipt.
Sophia hesitated and asked, "May I know who it's from?"
"I don't know, I'm just a delivery person, but there's order information here for you to check."
Unable to press further, Sophia reluctantly signed the receipt and took the flowers back inside. Glancing at the order, I saw that it read "For Sophia" with her phone number at the end.
A note read, 'Mr. A sent to the beautiful Ms. A, hoping Ms. A is happy every day.'
Followed by a smiling emoticon.
'Mr. A?'
'A?'
Searching through people she knew, Sophia could only think of two names with an "A" - Jake and Gabriel.
Gabriel couldn't possibly be the one sending her flowers, not in this lifetime.
This warm message was undoubtedly Jake's style.
Sophia smiled slightly; receiving flowers would make anyone happy.
Ruth was up early, stretching her upper body on the balcony. Seeing Sophia with the flowers, she asked, "Who sent you flowers?"
Could it be that Gabriel had really come to his senses?
Smiling, Sophia replied, "A friend."
Sophia indeed considered Jake a friend, a brother even. Therefore, his gesture of sending flowers was simply a warm gesture, not a man's pursuit of a woman.
Therefore, Sophia decided to invite Jake over for lunch.
"What kind of friend?" Ruth inquire,
"Someone you've met before."
Ruth pondered, without a doubt, it must be Gabriel.
"Ms. Lancaster, I'll go out to buy ingredients later and make something delicious for lunch. I've invited him over to eat at home."
"Alright."
Unexpectedly, Sophia had accepted Gabriel so quickly, even inviting him over for lunch.
This was great; a family reunion was on the horizon.
"He doesn't like spicy food, so don't make it too spicy. Well, let him have some spice," Ruth thought it was only fair to tease Gabriel a bit; otherwise, how would he learn not to tease Sophia in the future?
Sophia looked puzzled. "He likes spicy food."
"What?"
Ruth paused for a moment. The Lancaster family's diet was relatively bland, and Gabriel didn't like spicy food well.
Suddenly, Ruth realized she might have misunderstood.
"Sophia, what's the name of this friend of yours?"
"Jake."
"Jake," Ruth repeated the name. She remembered seeing Jake the day Sophia was discharged, but it was a brief encounter, and she didn't get a clear look at him. Her general impression was that he was a handsome young man, perhaps younger than Gabriel.
Sophia was exceptional, so it wasn't surprising for men to pursue her.
Ruth decided to keep an open mind. Since Jake was coming for lunch, she would observe him closely for Sophia's sake.
As for Gabriel, if he didn't cherish her, then someone else would.
"Ms. Lancaster."
The three children were up; Emma rubbed her eyes and walked over, leaning into Ruth's arms.
Ethan and Sam followed behind.
"Good morning, Ms. Lancaster."
"Good morning."
Ruth smiled happily.
Outside the neighborhood, Gabriel stopped the flower delivery person.
"What was her expression like when she received the flowers?"
The delivery person received a generous tip of ten thousand dollars, so he tried his best to recall. "At first, she seemed puzzled and hesitant to accept, but then she seemed to smile after reading the contents of the order."
Gabriel breathed a sigh of relief; he had been worried that Sophia wouldn't accept the flowers.
It seemed the trick Harrison taught him worked; as long as Sophia smiled, everything was fine.
He had consulted Rochester, knowing that people with depression needed extra care, ideally making them happy and showing them the beauty of the world.
Gabriel imagined Sophia's expression changing from confusion to happiness upon receiving the flowers; she must have looked charming.
He really wanted to see her with his own eyes. He glanced affectionately into the neighborhood. Then, when Sophia came out, Gabriel quickly turned around and stealthily slipped into the car.
Sophia walked out of the neighborhood, preparing to go to the nearby grocery store to buy some ingredients.
She walked to the left, suddenly stopped, looked back, and saw the familiar Bentley. Sophia's heart skipped a beat.
It was Gabriel!
Was he here to take the child away?
Then, the Bentley drove away slowly. Sophia's heart relaxed.
On the way, she thought about all sorts of messy things.
Alex saw Gabriel so humble for the first time. Was this still the boss who used to be so dominant and strategic?
Alex looked at Gabriel several times, suspecting that the soul inside this body had been replaced.
Gabriel gave him a cold glance, and that familiar feeling instantly hit Alex. He sighed in his heart. 'this is the familiar Gabriel.'
Around eleven o'clock, Colin arrived, followed by Jake. The house was lively; Caroline had to stay at the hospital to take care of Lisa and wouldn't be back for lunch.
Ruth was chatting with Colin, the three children were watching cartoons, and Jake walked in.
Ruth, wearing reading glasses, squinted slightly at Jake. "You must be Jake."
Jake was surprised that Ruth initiated a conversation with him, and he nodded stiffly. "Come, sit down," Ruth beckoned to him.
Jake said, "I'll go help first."
With that, he went straight to the kitchen. Ruth muttered, "Is Jake feeling awkward?" Colin asked, "What did you say?"
"Nothing." At the table, Ruth called out to Jake again. "Jake, eat more. I heard from Sophia that you've saved her many times." Jake smiled faintly, but his smile seemed a bit cooler than usual.
Sophia felt that Jake was acting a bit strange today. Could it be because of the presence of  Ruth?
Everyone sat together, and Ruth finally got a clear look at Jake's face.
She carefully examined him for a while and was shocked. This child, why did he look so familiar?
"Ms. Lancaster, have some." Sophia served Ruth some food, bringing her thoughts back. Ruth smiled. "Eat, everyone eats."
Usually, when Jake came over for a meal, he would play with the three children for a while before leaving.
Today, however, he left immediately after eating, saying he had urgent matters to attend to.
Ruth had many questions left unanswered. Jake didn't really have anything urgent; he just didn't want to stay longer.
Because of Ruth. It was ridiculous that Ruth didn't recognize him.
As Jake smiled, a faint teardrop shimmered in the corner of his eye. He remembered the first time he went to The Lancaster family's old mansion.
