Chapter 695 Looks Good

Gabriel chuckled, "Hey, your collar's all crooked."

As he spoke, he reached out and fixed it for her.

Sophia's cheeks turned bright red, her lips were also red and moist, her lipstick completely smudged.

Gabriel handed her a tissue, and Sophia flipped down the car mirror to fix her makeup.

Alex showed up, and Gabriel gave him a cold stare when he noticed he hadn't left yet.

Alex quietly slipped away.

Sophia asked, "Has Alex eaten yet?"

"He's a grown man. He can find his own food," Gabriel replied, a bit jealous that she was still worried about Alex.

Sophia went quiet.

The food had gotten a bit cold, and both Sophia and Gabriel were starving, especially Gabriel, who hadn't eaten since the morning and barely had anything for dinner the night before.

Even though the food wasn't as good as when it was hot, Gabriel and Sophia still found it tasty and dug in heartily.

Maybe their moods had shifted.

Gabriel kept glancing at Sophia every time he took a bite.

"Stop staring at me," Sophia said, feeling embarrassed under his gaze, her eyes downcast, not daring to look back at him.

Gabriel said, "You're beautiful. I can't help it."

Sophia stayed silent.

She thought, 'Do all men turn into sweet talkers once they fall in love?'

To avoid Gabriel's intense gaze ruining her appetite, Sophia turned back to her food.

Gabriel chuckled softly; even if she turned away, he still wanted to look at her. He couldn't get enough of her.

They quickly finished their lunch in the car, and it was already two o'clock. Sophia had to get back to work, and Gabriel, reluctant to part, stared at her even more intensely.

Sophia felt the car was too small, and under his gaze, it was easy for things to get heated.

She cleared her throat and asked directly, "Does Miss Taylor like you?"

Gabriel quickly raised an eyebrow and said, "What does that have to do with me? I'm just discussing financing with her for business. We'll sign the agreement tomorrow, and after that, I won't see her again."

Sophia had asked casually, but Gabriel explained in detail, which made her very happy.

Sophia glanced at her watch, "It's getting late. I need to get back to the office."

Gabriel, reluctant, leaned closer to Sophia.

Only then did Sophia notice the fatigue on his face. The dark circles under his eyes were very noticeable.

"I might be busy for a few more days and may not be able to come home on time," Gabriel said quietly, holding Sophia's hand and gently squeezing her palm.

"Are the online rumors true?" Sophia asked.

Gabriel replied, "Yeah, the project data was leaked, and the rumors about the Lancaster Group facing a financial crisis were probably spread by our competitors."

"Who are the competitors?"

Gabriel pursed his lips. He looked at her with a complex gaze, and after a few seconds, he answered, "Not sure yet."

Although he highly suspected Jake, he had no evidence. Besides, Jake seemed to hold a special place in Sophia's heart. If he accused Jake without proof, he feared she would be upset.

Sophia noticed his strange look but didn't ask further.

Just like Ruth said, she believed he could handle it and wouldn't be easily defeated.

"I should go," Sophia said again.

Gabriel finally let her go but snuck in a kiss on her lips when she wasn't expecting it, then looked as happy as a dog that had found a bone, wagging its tail.

"Sophie, I'm glad you get jealous for me." Gabriel's eyes sparkled, "I'll come home tonight, but it'll be late. You don't have to wait up."

Sophia's face, which had just cooled down, heated up again. She nodded lightly. "Okay."

Gabriel reluctantly got out of the car. "Be careful on the road. Text me when you get there."

"Okay."

Gabriel stood there, watching Sophia drive away with a gentle look in his eyes.

After her car disappeared from view, Gabriel habitually adjusted his tie, only to realize that two buttons on his shirt collar were undone and his tie was left in Sophia's car.

Gabriel smiled, touching his lips as if savoring the moment. He felt as if he were floating in warm water, blown by the wind, soaring in the air. He felt so thrilled and excited that he wanted to whistle.

"Mr. Lancaster," a department manager walked over, looking at him with a strange and puzzled expression.

Gabriel instantly reverted to his dignified and aloof demeanor, and responded coldly before walking into his private elevator.

The manager stood there and tilted his head.

He hadn't been mistaken; Gabriel looked like a boy who had fallen in love.

Alex returned from the cafeteria, planning to take a nap on the sofa. Just as he was about to fall asleep, Gabriel called him back to the office.

"Mr. Lancaster," Alex said, keeping his head down, not daring to look at Gabriel.

His intuition told him he had made a mistake today.

Gabriel looked at him with a faint smile. "Why didn't you tell me right away when Sophie arrived?"

Alex stammered, "You were discussing financing with Miss Taylor, which is crucial for the company, so I didn't dare interrupt."

Gabriel's eyes were filled with suspicion. "Was that really the case?"

Alex glanced around nervously.

In fact, the company was in a critical situation. Without new funds to fill the gap, the Lancaster Group would be hard hit.

He had been working day and night with Gabriel, attending meetings, making calls, preparing materials, and so on. Due to the news outside and the falling stock prices, many banks were hesitant to lend money to the Lancaster Group.

Only Clara's father chose to believe in the Lancaster Group without hesitation, but he sent Clara to handle the matter.

Everyone could see that Clara liked Gabriel from the moment she saw him.

Today, Clara came to the Lancaster Group alone to discuss financing details with Gabriel and didn't want anyone else present. Gabriel accepted her request and sent Alex out.

He thought Gabriel might have to make a small sacrifice to secure the financing, but he didn't expect that Sophia came here.

However, it seemed that Gabriel had explained everything to Sophia.

Alex didn't dare to voice his thoughts. He certainly didn't want to interrupt, as financing was a big deal.

Gabriel, said expressionlessly, "Punishment..."

Before he finished, he picked up his phone and saw a message which was sent by Sophia in the morning. He then changed his mind, "You can go."

Alex breathed a sigh of relief, feeling like he had dodged a bullet.

How did he dodge it?

Alex glanced over and saw Gabriel looking at his phone. Could it be that he got the financing?

Just as Alex turned to leave, Gabriel called, "Come back."
