Chapter 123 Mother-Child Relationship

Today was definitely the most fascinating and satisfying day Sam had ever experienced. It was the first time he bathed with someone else, in a very small bathroom. Aunt Kelly almost insisted on washing him herself, but he stubbornly refused. Sam felt extremely uncomfortable and even thought about running away at one point. Ethan secretly chuckled.

When they came out, Sam's face was either reddened from the steam or from embarrassment. "Come over and let me blow-dry your hair," Ethan said, leading Sam towards Mommy. Sophia had already picked up a hairdryer and, as they approached, she placed one hand on each of their heads, making the two children sit on little stools while she dried their hair.

Sophia ruffled Ethan's hair haphazardly, but when it came to Sam, her movements became much gentler. Sam was still shedding hair, with each blow causing it to fall onto the floor and onto his hands. Sophia's heart ached, her expression almost collapsing, her eyes turning red. She lightened her touch even more, becoming even gentler.

Sam felt so comfortable that he wanted to fall asleep. Normally, when he showered, he dried his own hair. He didn't like people being near him, so he always did things independently. But today, he immersed himself in the role of Aunt Kelly's child, enjoying the feeling of having a mommy. He loved this feeling and wished it could last forever.

"That's enough," Sophia patted their bottoms. "Time to go to bed." Ethan pulled Sam onto the bed. The three children played on the bed together.

Sam's habits were completely different from theirs. He would never play on the bed at home because, in his mind, the bed was only for sleeping. But he didn't have time to ponder over it. Ethan and Emma didn't care about such things; they spread out a board game on the bed and began playing.

By ten o'clock, Sophia realized they still hadn't fallen asleep and reluctantly came to urge them. The three children reluctantly put away the board game and got under the covers.

They left a large empty space in the middle, which belonged to Sophia. With Sam joining them tonight, Ethan knew that Mommy would definitely want to hold Sam while sleeping. So, he gave Sam his usual spot and moved to the side.

Sophia laid down, contentedly holding Emma on one side and Sam on the other, pulling Ethan closer while holding his hand. Emma said, "Mommy, tell us a story."

Sam snuggled up in Sophia's arms like a well-behaved and timid little cat, his eyes dark, bright, and pitiful. His small hands tightly grasped Sophia's clothes inside the sheets.

Sophia slowly and vividly began telling a fairy tale. The three little ones listened attentively. After finishing one story, Emma requested to hear another one. Sophia had told these stories countless times and had memorized them all. The two children had also heard them countless times, yet they never got tired of hearing them.

After finishing the second story, Sophia noticed that Sam seemed unsatisfied. "Would you like to hear more?" she asked. Sam wanted to nod but was hesitant.

Ethan said, "Mommy, please tell us just one more..."

"Okay."

After the third story, it was getting really late. Sophia turned off the lights and asked the three kids to close their eyes and go to sleep.

Sam couldn't fall asleep at all; he was very nervous.

So this is how it feels to have a mommy.

Mommy would cook for him, blow-dry his hair, and tell him bedtime stories.

Daddy would also tell him bedtime stories, but they weren't as nice as Aunt Kelly's.

But most importantly, he could sleep in mommy's arms!

He wasn't scared anymore.

Sophia couldn't sleep either, with her three precious children by her side. This was something that used to only happen in her dreams, but now it had become a reality.

It all felt so unreal.

Wishing the day wouldn't break.

She looked at Sam's peaceful sleeping face, reached out and touched his little nose, and planted a kiss on his forehead.

Mommy won't give up on you, she will do everything she can to bring you back from Gabriel!

The next morning, Gabriel's call came early.

Sophia was preparing breakfast and didn't want to answer. She hung up the first call, and when Gabriel called again, she hung up again.

When the third call came, Sophia picked up.

She could hang up twice more on Gabriel's call out of spite, but if it went beyond three times, Gabriel would definitely come looking for her. He would discover that the address she had given him before was wrong, then find her real address and Ethan and Emma. That would be too much to risk.

Gabriel's tone was unfriendly, "I'll be at Flora Garden in ten minutes, bring Sam out."

Sophia replied, "Sam hasn't woken up yet. Come later and let him sleep a bit more."

Gabriel remained silent for a few seconds, then said, "Fine."

He thought Sam would be fussy and cry in a new environment, that he wouldn't be able to sleep at this hour. But who would have thought that he hadn't woken up yet?

Could it really be because of their biological relationship?

Although Sam had developed a sense of autism because of Sophia, he still didn't reject being close to her?

The three children were awake, brushing their teeth and washing their faces.

In just one day, Sam had already adapted to this different life.

He was happy to wake up in the morning and see Ethan and Emma again.

Time passed too quickly. After breakfast, Sophia had to take Sam outside of Flora Garden.

"Sam, how do you feel about Aunt Kelly's house?"

Sam showed that he liked it, nodding slightly.

"Then next time you come to Aunt Kelly's house, Aunt Kelly will continue to cook delicious food for you."

Sam nodded again.

"Sam, can you promise Auntie one thing?"

Sam blinked.

"Don't mention Ethan and Emma to your daddy."

Does Aunt Kelly also dislike his daddy, just like Ethan and Emma?

Sam didn't understand, but he still nodded.

She didn't want to disappoint Aunt Kelly.

"Thank you, Sam," Sophia kissed his forehead.

As Sophia brought Sam to the entrance of Flora Garden, Gabriel had just arrived, and he came over to pick up Sam.

Sophia waved her hand, her smile gentle.

"Goodbye, Sam."

Sam waved his little hand as well.

Gabriel held the child and got into the car. He could clearly sense some subtle changes in Sam after one night.

"Did you have fun at Aunt Kelly's?" he asked softly, curious about how his son got along with Sophia.

Sam nodded gently.

"Do you like Aunt Kelly?"

He hesitated... He liked Aunt Kelly, but he was afraid Aunt Gu would find out.

"Don't you like her?"

If he didn't like her, could he have stayed there for the night?

No matter what Gabriel asked next, Sam didn't respond at all, as if he hadn't heard anything, completely absorbed in his own world.

Gabriel felt incredibly frustrated.

His phone rang, and it was Tiffany calling.

Since Gabriel had asked Alex to stay and take care of Tiffany yesterday, he hadn't appeared again. Now Gabriel connected the Bluetooth and answered the call.

Tiffany's weak voice came through Scarlett, "Gabriel, what are you doing?"

"Driving."

"I miss you."

Gabriel saw the green light come on, stepped on the gas, and asked in concern, "What did the doctor say?"
