Chapter 616 Just Not Like That Anymore

"Linda, you wild woman, how dare you smack me!"

Mia raised her hand, and Clayton yanked Linda behind him, grabbing Mia's hand mid-swing.

Clayton shoved hard, and Mia hit the ground.

Clayton was shocked at his own strength.

He shouldn't have laid a hand on an elder, but if he hadn't, Linda would've been hit.

Mia stared at Clayton, stunned.

"You pushed me! Clayton, I'm your favorite aunt!"

Clayton's face went pale.

Mia had taken care of him when he was a kid, so they were close.

He reached out to help Mia up.

Linda yanked him back.

"From now on, she's not your aunt. Let's go!" Linda yelled,

With that, Linda dragged Clayton away.

Mia sat on the ground, pale, with clear finger marks on her cheek.

In the big villa, you could almost hear her breathing echo.

"Linda!" Mia muttered through gritted teeth, hatred flashing in her eyes.

Back home, Linda was still fuming.

"Mom." A weak voice came.

Linda paused.

Diana's eyes were red and swollen, her face pale and sickly, her figure frail and delicate.

"Am I really not your daughter?" Diana's tears fell.

Hearing this, Linda felt torn.

She had long considered Diana her own daughter, and during this time, Diana had filled the void in her heart from missing her daughter for over twenty years.

Seeing Diana cry so heartbreakingly, Linda's heart ached instinctively.

"No." Linda finally had to tell the truth.

Diana cried even harder, squatting down and hugging her knees.

"Why was there a mistake, why am I not? What should I do now?"

Linda and Clayton looked on, feeling a bit of pity.

It seemed Diana, like Linda, didn't know about the mistake initially and thought she had found her family.

Linda had seen Diana fight her way back from the brink of death and genuinely cared for her.

Linda walked over and gently patted Diana's head.

"We were mother and daughter for a while, but fate played a joke on us."

Diana hugged Linda's leg.

"Mom, please don't abandon me. I've really come to see you as my real mom. I... I can't bear to lose you."

Diana's heart-wrenching cries softened Linda's heart bit by bit.

"I can't bear it either, but Caroline is my real daughter."

"I..."

Diana cried until she fainted, and Linda hurriedly had Clayton carry her to the hospital.

Two hours later, Diana woke up, with Daniel and Linda by her side.

Clayton had gone to find Paul.

"You're awake? Have some water." Linda, still loving, poured her a glass of water.

Diana drank a little.

She shrank back and glanced at Daniel.

Daniel frowned, his expression stern, always making Diana feel scared.

"What happened to me?" Diana asked.

"The doctor said you fainted because of emotional turmoil. It's nothing serious, don't worry," Linda said.

Diana nodded. "Okay, thank you, Mom."

Hearing "Mom," Linda's hand tightened around the cup.

At this moment, Daniel stared at Diana and spoke in a deep voice.

"Why'd you help Mia that day, saying the cash was for a friend?"

Diana's face went even paler.

She bit her lip, eyes full of panic and fear, hands gripping the blanket tight.

Linda's tone turned sharp, "Yeah, why'd you help her? You in on this with her?"

"No!" Diana denied immediately.

Tears streamed down as she cried, "I was forced."

Linda glanced at Daniel, her voice softening a bit.

"What happened? Just spill it, we're reasonable folks."

Diana choked, her voice trembling with sobs, "Mia threatened me with my adoptive parents, made me help her. I had no choice. They raised me, I can't let anything happen to them."

Daniel pressed on, "Do you know why she did this?"

Diana's back stiffened, remembering the recording.

Daniel pondered, 'What if I hand the recording to Daniel now? No, I can't. If Mia gets away with it, she'll definitely come after me and my adoptive parents.'

"I don't know." Diana shook her head.

Seeing Diana curled up in fear, Daniel asked more, but she kept saying she didn't know.

Daniel's frown deepened.

Linda cursed, "That nasty woman Mia, I should've smashed her face!"

"Mom, I really didn't mean to. I'm sorry. Can you forgive me? I won't do it again." Diana pitifully tugged at Linda's clothes.

Linda's heart softened, and she looked at Daniel.

Daniel thought for a moment.

"Since you're also a victim, as long as you're honest, we won't blame you. But if she contacts you again, you gotta tell us."

Diana nodded. "Okay."

Linda hesitated and said, "Daniel, I think we should make Diana our goddaughter."

Daniel's eyes narrowed, and he stayed silent.

Since everything was clear, everyone should go back to their rightful places, and Diana should return to her adoptive parents.

He could tell she was still hiding something. But Diana wouldn't say another word, no matter what he tried.

Maybe keeping Diana around for a while was also an option.

Daniel didn't agree, but he didn't refuse either.

Clayton followed Paul to Lisa's ward and saw Caroline.

He hid behind Paul, peeking out, his eyes darting around.

"Why are you hiding behind me?" Paul impatiently pulled Clayton out.

Meeting Caroline's gaze, Clayton felt a bit lost.

Caroline looked away, not meeting his eyes.

Paul secretly kicked Clayton, giving him a look.

Clayton mustered the courage to walk over, speaking softly, "Caroline."

Caroline responded with little expression.

"I'm sorry, I didn't know you were my sister before, or I wouldn't have treated you that way."

Caroline turned to look at him, her gaze deep and complex.

She didn't actually dislike Clayton. He was kind and just a little impulsive. But because of Daisy, she disliked the whole Wolfs clan, including Clayton.

Now that Caroline knew he was her brother, maybe due to the bond of blood, seeing him apologize so sincerely softened her heart.
