Chapter 557 Betrayed Sam
After the 15th, Sophia was back at Fusion Dynamics Corporation, ready to hit the books again.
Larry tagged along with her.
"Sophia!" Larry bolted over the second he spotted her.
"I thought I was totally canned."
His eyes got all watery as he spoke.
Man, the amount of trash talk and snickers he put up with after going back to the Lancaster Group from Fusion Dynamics Corporation was insane. The gossip even hit Facebook, and old classmates were roasting him.
Sophia gave Larry's shoulder a reassuring pat.
"Don't sweat it. Just focus on your studies from now on."
"Yeah!" Larry nodded like his life depended on it.
For some reason, Larry noticed Jennifer was being extra nice to Sophia this time around at Fusion Dynamics Corporation.
Larry couldn't help but wonder, 'Where's that so-called heir Patricia?'
Even Kathy, who usually had beef with Sophia, was keeping her distance, like she didn't want any trouble.
'That was quick,' Larry thought.
But after what he'd been through, Larry wasn't about to get all curious again.
So he just buried his doubts and hit the books with Sophia.
Sophia being the heir to the Blackwoods wasn't public knowledge yet, but those in the know were aware.
Sophia was all about working hard and leveling up her career, so when she took over Fusion Dynamics Corporation, she wouldn't let Celeste and Jennifer down.
Announcing her identity? She couldn't care less.
After New Year's, David was back in Country M. To be with his family ASAP, David planned to move the Blackwood Group HQ back to the U.S. in the first half of the year.
"Mr. Lancaster, these documents are sorted out." Alex walked in with a stack of papers.
Gabriel took them and flipped through.
"Send them to Mr. Blackwood."
"Got it."
Soon, David, who had just landed in Country M, got the documents from Gabriel.
After checking them out, he chuckled.
His assistant asked, "Good news?"
David replied, "Gabriel sent me some info on office buildings."
"Mr. Lancaster from the Lancaster Group?"
"Yep."
"I heard he's pretty sharp. The places he picks must be top-notch."
David had looked them over, and they were indeed solid choices.
David thought to himself, 'Why's Gabriel being so helpful?'
Colin had already set up a new studio in City B. Once it was running smoothly, he'd have to head back to Country M again; he couldn't just ditch his work there.
He had to see his patients through to the end.
While he was in the country, he also had to keep up with Sam's psychological treatment.
Sam was doing a lot better. Even though he still wasn't ready to open up to the adults, he wasn't shutting himself off from others anymore. He'd even learned to share his stuff, just like any other kid.
Today, Colin had a deep chat with Sam. After Sam fell asleep, Colin stepped out of the room.
Colin looked seriously at the worried Sophia and Gabriel, "Sam doesn't bring up that incident at all. He freaks out and loses it when I try to talk about it."
Sophia felt a tight knot in her chest.
"Colin, is there any way to make Sam forget about it?"
Gabriel nodded. Compared to Sam's well-being, the truth seemed like small potatoes.
"Human memory is a tricky thing. It's not impossible to make Sam forget. There's a method in psychology called hypnosis."
Colin adjusted his glasses, looking all serious. "But hypnosis isn't always a sure thing, and it usually needs drugs to help it along."
"Those drugs have side effects. Adults might handle them okay, but Sam's too young. His brain's still growing. Using those drugs could mess him up even more, so I don't recommend hypnosis for him."
Gabriel's heart clenched. If he could get his hands on the person who hurt Sam, they'd be sorry!
"There's another way, but it might be really tough on Sam."
"What is it?" Gabriel asked.
"Take him to the elevator, make him relive the scene, and force him to face it."
Gabriel and Sophia went silent. As parents, they wished they could take this pain away from Sam.
After a bit, Gabriel said firmly, "Let's do it. When do we start?"
"First, we need to find a similar environment. We'll need pros to make the elevator malfunction on purpose."
"Got it, I'll handle that."
Gabriel immediately gave Alex the instructions.
"Don't rush. I'll talk to Sam again in the next few days," Colin said, trying to reassure them.
"Okay."
Sophia walked into the room and looked at Sam's sleeping face, feeling her heart break.
She bent down and kissed Sam on the forehead.
Just then, Emma and Ethan walked in.
They exchanged a look, and finally, Ethan spoke up.
Ethan's big eyes caught Sophia's worried look.
"Mommy, we've been keeping something from you."
"What?" Sophia raised an eyebrow.
Ethan and Emma each took one of Sophia's hands and led her out of Sam's room.
Once the door closed, Ethan and Emma looked like they'd done something wrong, heads down. Emma's fingers were all tangled up.
Ethan continued, "Actually, Sam's been talking to us."
Sophia's face lit up.
"Really? Since when?"
"A while ago, Mommy. We didn't mean to hide it. Sam was still sick then. He didn't want us to tell anyone, and he only talked to us when no one else was around," Emma explained, looking anxious.
They wanted to protect Sam, so they kept quiet.
Ethan nodded. "Mommy, you have to keep it a secret. Don't let Sam know we told you."
Sophia rubbed Ethan and Emma's heads and hugged them.
"Okay, Mommy knows. I'll keep it a secret."
Ethan and Emma had talked it over for a long time. When they heard Colin say Sam had to face his biggest fear, they felt they had no choice but to spill the beans.
When Sam woke up, Ethan and Emma were sitting by the bed, holding their chins and staring at him.
Sam blinked. Seeing no one else in the room, he opened his mouth.
"Why are you looking at me like that?"
"Sam, when are you gonna talk to Daddy, Mommy, and Grandma?" Emma pouted.
Sam lowered his head. "I... I don't know."
Deep down, the fear was still there. Sam thought, 'What if Mom and Dad split up? What if he and Ethan and Emma had to pick sides again?'
He was scared that even if he spoke, it wouldn't keep his daddy and mommy together.
