Chapter 731 The Illegitimate Child Who Can't See the Light
Gabriel was leisurely recuperating in the hospital. Harrison's injuries had almost healed, so Harrison and Alex could temporarily take over the company.
As for Jake, he didn't dare to act rashly anymore. Owen's capture was a significant hit to him.
In the president's office of Micro Circuit Group, Jake, unshaven and disheveled, hadn't tidied his appearance up for days.
Owen was his best brother, but now Owen had to spend the rest of his life in prison because of him.
He was feeling a bit lost.
Recent events played through his mind like a movie.
The Phoenix Group was thriving, and consequently, Micro Circuit Group's stock prices were steadily rising domestically.
On the surface, everything seemed calm and the development trend was good.
But what did it matter?
Sophia was gone, and his men still hadn't found Sophia's body.
Even though the indoor temperature was normal, warm and pleasant, Jake felt very cold. His body was cold, his heart even colder.
A few people holding documents exchanged glances outside, not daring to go in or cause trouble.
Micah hesitated for a long time before finally knocking on the office door.
"Come in!"
Micah entered, head down, not daring to look at Jake.
"Mr. Hughes, I've found out what you asked me to investigate. Gabriel is indeed ill and is currently being treated in the hospital."
On that day at the abandoned chemical plant, Jake noticed dark bloodstains on Gabriel's clothes and suspected he was injured.
Thinking back to the time when Gabriel and Sophia disappeared, Jake guessed that Gabriel might be sick.
Jake wondered, 'Gabriel had returned to the country? Had he already found Sophia?'
Jake immediately grabbed his coat and rushed out.
"Mr. Hughes, where are you going?"
Jake didn't answer him.
He drove all the way to the Lancaster Manor.
After Gabriel and Sophia returned to the country, Ruth went back to the Lancaster Manor. At this time, Sophia had taken the three children to the hospital to accompany Gabriel, leaving only Ruth, Betty, and a group of servants and bodyguards at home.
"Mrs. Lancaster, there's a Mr. Hughes outside to see you," a servant reported.
Ruth, wearing glasses and holding a bridal magazine, paused when hearing the servant's words.
After a few seconds of thought, she said, "Let him in."
A Mr. Hughes, so it must be Jake.
The Lancaster Manor was the place Jake hated the most, but he wanted to see Sophia one last time.
However, upon entering, he didn't sense any atmosphere of mourning, nor were there any signs of a funeral at the Lancaster Manor.
Jake found it strange.
Before he could think further, the servant had already led him into the main house.
Jake's emotions were a bit turbulent.
He forced himself to suppress his aversion to the place and walked up to Ruth.
"Where's Sophia?" he asked bluntly.
Ruth gave Jake a cold look.
Her usually kind and gentle voice turned icy.
"Sophia is a member of the Lancaster family. What do you want with her?"
Seeing Ruth without a trace of sadness, Jake felt a pang of doubt again.
"Where is she?"
Ruth abruptly placed her teacup on the coffee table, the sound striking like a blow to the heart, inexplicably creating a sense of oppression.
"You can blame your father for not acknowledging you, but you can't blame us for your mother's death. In fact, if you think about it, your father also died because of your mother."
Ruth had originally felt guilty towards Jake. If she had found him earlier, perhaps he wouldn't have gone down the wrong path.
Even though Jake was an illegitimate child, he couldn't be ignored after his birth. At the very least, she could have found a good family to adopt him.
Jake clenched his fists, and he had a gloomy expression.
"I suppose Calliope must have told you many things about how we wronged you."
Ruth's eyes narrowed slightly.
She wasn't afraid of Jake's anger at all. No matter what, she had to expose Calliope's disgusting deeds.
"If it weren't for Calliope, the Lancaster family wouldn't have been torn apart, and you wouldn't have suffered."
Jake shouted, "Shut up! Don't try to cover up your crimes!"
Ruth sneered, "Calliope was your father Caleb's secretary. She lurked by Caleb's side for many years. After one drunken night, she drugged Caleb and then got pregnant with you."
"Caleb and his wife were a model couple in their circle, loving and happy, but Calliope destroyed that happiness."
"Caleb called the police, and she begged him. Caleb, feeling sorry for her, only fired her."
"Later, Calliope got pregnant and came to Caleb for money, saying she would abort you."
"Then she came back with you and asked for more money."
"She cunningly used you as a Lancaster family child, like an indestructible rat, constantly coming back to disgust Caleb."
Jake's eyes were bloodshot as he stared at Ruth, and his gaze filled with murderous intent, but Ruth showed no fear.
"Even in death, she left behind schemes."
"Years later, her friend revealed this to Gabriel's mother, begging her to find you and accept you."
"Gabriel's mother couldn't bear Caleb's betrayal. They argued in the car, which then crashed."
"You think you're innocent, but isn't Gabriel innocent too?"
"Because of your mother, he also lost his father and mother."
"If you want to hate, you should hate Calliope!"
Jake swept the cups off the coffee table with one hand.
The action scared the servants, who trembled. Betty quickly called the bodyguards to protect Ruth.
"Calliope certainly wouldn't have told you these things. She probably only told you that Gabriel's mother broke up her and Caleb, which is why Caleb didn't acknowledge you."
"Did she also tell you that everything of the Lancaster family was yours, that you could have had a complete and happy family, but because of Gabriel and his mother, you became an illegitimate child who couldn't see the light?"
Ruth's exposure of Calliope's dirtiest side was like forcibly tearing open Jake's wounds.
"I've said everything I wanted to say. Whether you believe it or not, everything Calliope did can be traced if you have the mind to look."
"I can pretend nothing happened with what you did to Gabriel in Country M. Even if the Lancaster family owes you, it's canceled out. But if you dare to do anything again, don't blame the Lancaster family for being ruthless!"
Ruth gave Jake a warning look.
"As for what you did to Sophia, the Blackwood family won't spare you."
"James, see him out."
James stepped forward, "Mr. Hughes, please leave."
Jake hung his head, standing still. No one could tell what he was thinking. He seemed to be enveloped in a cloud of sorrow, yet also filled with a bloodthirsty aura.
