Chapter 776: It's Your Uncle's Secret

Sophia and Gabriel took the kids to dine at the Blackwood Manor, but Colin was not at the table.

"Where's Colin?" Sophia asked.

Jennifer replied, "He's been really busy lately, leaving early and coming back late. He said this morning that he wouldn't come home for dinner."

It was likely that he was very busy. Colin rarely missed family dinners, so his absence today must mean he had something important to deal with.

After dinner, Emma sneaked up to Sophia and whispered in her ear, "Uncle Colin isn't busy with work."

"What?"

"He is dating."

Sophia's eyes lit up, and she whispered back to Emma, "Tell me, sweetie, is what you're saying really true?"

"Yes."

"How do you know?"

"Last time Uncle Colin took me out to eat something delicious, we met a lady. The way Uncle looked at her was like how I look at ice cream. The lady knew him and even asked why he came back to the country. Uncle said he came back for work, and then the lady got a phone call and left. Uncle kept staring at her back."

"What did the lady look like?"

Emma tilted her head, trying to remember. "She had thin eyebrows, big eyes, very pretty, but not as pretty as Caroline and Mommy."

Sophia gently pinched her hand. "You are so sweet."

Emma giggled, "Mommy, I drew her. I'll show you when we get home."

"Okay."

In the afternoon, they left the kids at the Blackwood Manor, and Gabriel took Sophia to the hospital. They took the green channel to complete all the check-ups.

The doctor looked at the report and frowned. "Mrs. Lancaster's condition can be managed, but it will take a long time and needs to be done gradually."

He typed on the computer as he spoke, "I'll prescribe some medicine first, to be taken twice a day."

Sophia didn't want to take the medicine, but thinking about the monthly pain she endured, she reluctantly comforted herself, 'It's okay, just pinch my nose and drink it in one go, then have a piece of candy afterward.'

Seeing Sophia's frown, Gabriel reached out to smooth it. "Good medicine is always bitter. Once you're not in pain, you won't have to drink it anymore."

"Okay." Sophia nodded.

They picked up the medicine and then went back to the Blackwood Manor to get the three kids and then headed home.

In the evening, Emma secretly brought the drawing to show Sophia.

Looking at the person Emma had drawn, Sophia noted that Emma's drawing skills, taught by Sam, were now good enough to clearly depict a person.

Sophia found the face somewhat familiar but couldn't immediately recall when she had seen it.

"She's quite pretty," Sophia commented.

Emma smiled, "Mommy is the prettiest."

Sophia patted Emma's head and put the drawing away. "Emma, don't tell anyone else about this for now, okay?"

"Why?"

"It's your uncle's secret."

"Okay, I'll keep it a secret for him."

Sophia hugged Emma and gave her a kiss.

After resting for two days, Sophia went back to work, with Gabriel returning to the company a day earlier.

Since Colin missed the family dinner, he arranged a time to have lunch with Sophia.

He even came to Fusion Dynamics Corporation to pick her up.

"Aunt, would you like to join us?" Sophia asked.

Jennifer waved her hand, "No, you two go ahead. I have a lunch appointment."

"Alright." Sophia grabbed her bag and went downstairs.

They went to a nearby restaurant with good reviews.

Colin had an apologetic look on his face. "I had something very important that day, so I couldn't come home to celebrate for you."

"It's okay, Colin. It was just a regular family dinner." Sophia replied.

Colin squinted with a smile. "Did you have fun with Gabriel?"

"Yes, we went to many places." Sophia shared some interesting stories.

As the dishes were served, Colin helped Sophia with the food. Suddenly, his gaze paused, and he looked off into the distance.

Sophia was talking and noticed Colin's distraction. She followed his gaze.

A woman not far away was also looking in their direction. The woman's face looked familiar, and Sophia immediately recognized her.

She waved.

The woman walked over.

"Sophia," Edith Astor greeted Sophia warmly.

"Edith, what a coincidence! You're dining here too." Sophia said.

"Yes, I'm here with a client." Edith apologized, "I couldn't attend your wedding last time because something came up. I hope you don't mind, Sophia."

She had sent a cash gift to Sophia since she couldn't attend.

"It's okay, I understand," Sophia said, not minding at all.

Edith used to be their neighbor. She was two years older than Sophia. Later, Edith's family moved away, and she went abroad, so they lost contact.

Until a month before the wedding, Sophia ran into Edith at a party, and they recognized each other.

Sophia and Edith still got along well, just like when they were kids.

So, Sophia sent Edith a wedding invitation. Although Edith didn't attend, she sent a gift.

Edith's gaze naturally fell on Colin.

Sophia's eyes darted around, and she introduced, "This is my cousin, Colin."

"We know each other," Edith said openly, without any intention of avoiding Colin. She had a gentle smile on her face and spoke softly.

"You know each other?" Sophia pretended to be surprised, "Colin, when did you meet Edith?"

Colin took a sip of lemon water and said calmly, "We met abroad, but we didn't get to know each other well."

Edith's expression changed slightly but quickly regained her composure.

"Yes, I met Colin while studying abroad. Anyway, I have to go now. Sophia, let's have a meal together another day," Edith said.

"Sure." Sophia nodded.

Edith hurriedly left.

After Edith sat down, Sophia had been observing Colin's expression. She noticed that the usually gentle Colin was unusually cold towards Edith.

"Colin, how did you meet Edith?" Sophia asked curiously.

Colin took a bite of his food.

"We met by chance. We didn't get to know each other well, so there's not much to say."

Colin's reluctant attitude to talk about it only made Sophia more curious.

There must be something between Colin and Edith.

Sophia suddenly remembered that the drawing Emma made was of Edith!

They fell silent, each lost in their own thoughts.

Sophia recalled some things about Edith. She remembered hearing that Edith was married.

"How did you meet Edith?" Colin's voice suddenly brought Sophia back to reality.

"Edith used to be our neighbor," Sophia answered simply.
